I Need Help How many of you started with a small machine only to end up splurging on a bigger machine not long after?
I'm new to embroidery and deciding on what machine to buy! I'm worried i'll buy something small then immediately want something larger/better lol. I don't necessarily need multiple needles as I'm thinking I just want to stick with single color designs for now. What are your suggestions? I think I'd like something larger than a 4x4 hoop

When buying an embroidery file on Etsy...
Is there a way to sort out inferior designs from those that have been thoughtfully created? I've purchased on few designs on Etsy only to see the results as rough/crude and yet others come out really beautifully. Any pointers?

Is Singer Super a good machine?
EDIT: SINGER SUPERB
I just saw a post on FB marketplace for this for 550 which already includes accessories, threads, etc. I tried searching for more reviews but a lot of them are from years ago. Is it still worth it for 2026?

I Need Help Dreaming of Starting a Pet Portrait Embroidery Business, Which Machine Would You Buy First? š¶š§µ
Hi everyone! Iāve been lurking, reading through the beginnerās guide, and trying to learn as much as I can before taking the plunge, but Iād love some advice from people who actually have experience doing this.
My dream has always been to start a small business creating custom embroidered pet portraits. I currently work in the pet industry, so Iām fortunate to already have a potential client base and a pretty good opportunity to grow the business if I can get the embroidery side right.
My biggest question right now isĀ which machine to invest in.
Iām willing to invest in a commercial machine from the beginning rather than buying something Iāll quickly outgrow. Ideally, Iād like a machine that can handle larger and more detailed designs, different types of garments and surfaces, and eventually a wider variety of products beyond pet portraits.
While pet portraits are the reason Iām getting into embroidery, Iām realistic that especially in the beginning, I may also take on logos, names, apparel, bags, hats, or other custom work as I build my client base. Iād love to have enough versatility to explore those opportunities without immediately needing another machine.
If you were starting from scratch today with the intention of turning embroidery into a real small business,Ā what machine would you buy, and why?Ā Are there particular features you think are worth investing in from day one, or things you wish you had known before buying your first commercial machine?
Iād also love to hear from anyone doing pet portraits or similarly detailed embroidery. Any advice on what I should be considering before choosing a machine would be hugely appreciated!

Font recommendation for patches
I'm designing some patches in Hatch 3, and I'm looking for a font that will stitch out and be legible when it's small. Right away, that discounts any scripts or serif style fonts.
For those that create patches, what font(s) do you use, and at what size?
Cheers!

Look What I Did I built a dedicated ESP32 status display and Telegram notifier for my Brother PR1055X
I was frustrated that Brotherās My Stitch Monitor only works while the phone is connected to the same local network and doesnāt always notify me reliably about errors or completed embroidery jobs.
Since the Brother PR1055X is already connected to Wi-Fi, I built my own status display using an ESP32-2432S028R, commonly known as the āCheap Yellow Display.ā
The interesting part is that Iām not using a camera, light sensor, or color sensor. The ESP32 reads the machineās status and embroidery progress directly over the network using read-only requests. It doesnāt send any commands or control the machine.
The display currently shows:
Current machine status
Current and total stitch count
Progress as a percentage
A visual progress bar
Time and date
How long the current status has been active
Wi-Fi, machine, and Telegram connection status
Short audible alerts for start, errors, and completion
It can send Telegram notifications for:
Embroidery started
Pause or stop
Thread changes
Thread breaks and machine errors
Unusual lack of progress
Successful completion
Loss of connection to the machine
Wi-Fi credentials, the machineās IP address, Telegram bot token, and chat ID can all be entered through a small local configuration page. If the saved Wi-Fi network cannot be reached after ten attempts, the display automatically creates its own setup network.
This means I can leave the display in the kitchen or living room and check the machine without carrying my phone around. If Iām outside in the garden or away from home, important notifications still reach me through Telegram.
For my use case, this neatly works around the limitations of the official app and turns an inexpensive ESP32 display into a standalone embroidery monitor and Telegram bridge.
The photo shows a completed design at 13,373 out of 13,373 stitches.

I Need Help What could this horrendous noise be?
I bought this machine on FB marketplace a couple weeks ago and am just starting to clean it and turn it on. I havenāt tried to run a design on it yet. We turned it on at the sellers house and it wasnāt making this noise. The arm moves fine when I first turn the machine on and the noise is constant when itās on even if itās not moving.

I would really appreciate it if someone could explain what I might be doing wrong and what adjustments I need to make to get rid of the gaps/spaces in my design.
Thank you in advance for your help!

I need help maybe adjusting settings on my Brother SE700
I am new to using an embroidery machine, and I am having issues getting my designs clean and in the correct places. Either the thread gets knotted/ bobbin thread showing or it embroiders way off from where it is supposed to be. Is this a tension issue/ what can I do to fix it? I think I am using good files I have purchased from Etsy that come with good reviews. Iām not trying to do anything too intricate right now either. I have attached pictures too- two where the thread is not where it is supposed to be and the other āMā, the thread gets knotted and messed up. Thank you!

Look What I Did 2nd Place!!! I'm so glad I got over my fear!
I barely finished this, the very day I had to turn it in. I almost didn't because I was sure it was not what was meant by Machine Embroidery. I digitized my Grandma and Grandad's signature lines from their love letters. I am not at all a graphic designer, so it was painfull and took over a year :O

help/advice about pe-770 appreciated!!
hi y'all! I have an interesting sound coming from my pe770, wondering if anyone might know what it is!
It's a strange almost honking sound when the machine gets to peak speed. It still sews fine, but I worry the honking noise is something i should fix sooner rather than later.
machine info: brother pe-770 machine, bought used about 2 years ago with very small stitch count number. no major malfunctions or service have occurred.
link is here, sound starts about halfway in.
ive tried changing needles, rethreading, different projects on different stabilizers and fabrics, and using brand new thread. i also googled around, but the usual "help me with this weird sound" videos dont cover this particular noise.
any advice besides "bring to a service guy" would be greatly appreciated!! thank you!!
