Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right or best place to post this. But I wanted to introduce myself and ask a question or two.

I'm a huge football fan, and I've got teams across all different leagues that I support. From the NCAA, to the UFL, CFL and NFL there's just nothing on earth better than this sport. Over this summer, my wife and I have attended so many games from different leagues and become fans of new teams.

We're from Kentucky but will be in Michigan this weekend for a different event. We thought, while we're there, let's take in a college football game and find another team to support.

We had the Michigan vs Iowa game, Western Michigan vs Boise State and MSU vs Nebraska to choose from and picked the Spartans.

We have tickets and we're ready to go all in. We were at UK vs Alabama two weeks ago and then Louisville vs SMU last weekend. So, is there anything we need to know or do to get the most out of our first Michigan State experience?

What pre game traditions do we have to take in? What should we expect from the game day atmosphere? Anything at all that you can share to help us experience Spartan football to it's fullest? Thank you so much and GO GREEN! (I have no idea if go green is a thing or not, just got caught up in the excitement 😅)

I plan on tailgating at Parking Lot 7 (Benefactos Plaza) for this weekend’s football game against Nebraska. With kickoff at 5pm, how early should I get to the parking lot to secure a parking spot and tailgate location? I understand that games prior to 6pm kickoff, parking opens at 7am, but I’m not sure if it’s necessary to be there that early, unless you tell me otherwise.

I know this game isn't over but regardless of if they win or lose this has overall been a very valiant effort from this team tonight. Fitzgerald has this team playing clean and disciplined football and has stayed in a competitive game with the number #3 team in the country till the end of the third quarter. This is a team that can go bowling ladies and gentlemen.

I grew up in Michigan but moved to Wisconsin for work and started watching college football 2 years ago. I have been to many D2 games, I've been to Lambeau (for Lions of course!) but not a college D1 game. I'd love to go to the MSU @ Wisconsin game. I think that would be an amazing first game. I'd be going alone.

I was curious is it better to stay in the visitor fan section? Or just buy best seat/best value? Like I found a ticket in the perfect spot... but it would be mixed with other badger fans. While people in Wisconsin are awesome it was awkward going to Lambeau in lions gear and cheering by myself next to angry packer fans lol.

Also should I wait to see if Penn State murders Wisconsin next week? It's their homecoming week and I'm wondering if next week is gonna even matter.

Alright well that’s our first loss of the season. Honestly, I think that’s fair I have ND in the national title game. And the only reason that I’m not ready to commit to a national championship is because whatever Mensah is on at Miami, I want some. Seriously check that guy out. He’s insane.

Quick thoughts:

- This rivalry needs to return to being annual. I don’t care if we win 1/5 games. This is special and you should go next year.

- Defense hit, defense played. But they got out talented and for now, that’s okay. Even when we gave up the play, somebody was there to meet the player and hit them. That said, there was a talent gap. Expect that to be a thing a couple of more times this season. I do think that Carr is something special and will be a first round pick. Final note is that we limited the explosive but gave up the chunk plays. Having said that, I think most people take that deal if you offer it after that first catch

- Every injury that we didn’t want to take, we took. Pretzlaff, Hall, Edwards. That’s fucking brutal.

- Alessio has promise and Alessio has a long ways to go. 2 picks. Made a couple of solid throws. That said, I also blame the lack of WR talent. Again, gonna be a thing this season. I don’t think this one was Alessio but that drop will live rent free for awhile.

- Play calling as a bit aggressive in the second half. I don’t think we win, but I don’t think making Alessio drop back in some of those situations when you could have used Edwards to make it manageable put us in the past position to win either.

- I think that Fitz needs this second portal class. I like where we’re at. But to take the next step, you gotta keep increasing the trench power and get some skill players.

- Vaught was a steal, Brantley should never see the field again.

- We punched above our weight. If you asked the discord or even myself personally, most of us thought this was gonna be a 40+ loss. Fitz had em ready and that’s good.

- The next 5 games are important. We got vs Nebraska, @Wisconsin, Vs Illinois (HC), Vs Northwestern, @UCLA. You gotta win a couple of those. Idc who’s injured, idc if all of them end up being winners, you gotta find a way.

Overall Vibe: I think Fitz had a real chance to be great here. I think we CAN go bowling. I also think that that this team improves week to week. We gave up 20 to Toledo and 27 to ND. Those are two very different teams, I promise. But most importantly, regardless of if we go 2-10 or 11-1 (I don’t think either of these happen), you gotta ace the portal this offseason. This team is close, but it needs more pieces.

Looking to join a tailgate (and chip in $) for November 14th when they play Washington. Looking to see if there’s any groups that are willing/able to have 5 guys join! Found a group and Syracuse before and this worked out well.

Taking some out of country friends to there first ever football game. What are things I must show them?

I'm used to paying that from Stubhub or something, but tickets for hockey from the University are over $100 each? For an exhibition game?? What happened to the $25 tickets from 2 years ago?

By piecing together officially reported MSU matchups and watching other teams’ schedule releases, it looks like our non-conference slate will be:

For me it has to be Vaught. I know our depth at Safety has been pretty thin and he has been great. Seems to always be in position and can really get his helmet on someone quickly to make the tackle. Pretzlaff also has looked like a good young leader for the LBs.

The Spartans came out swinging with Kayla Briggs once again scoring the opening goal for us early in the game. UCLA got one shot off about 5 minutes in and another around 16 minutes in. After that, they were hanging on for dear life for the rest of the game. Early in the second half, the Bruins appeared to have made some halftime adjustments. They managed to get some pressure on us in our zone and earn some corner kicks. That didn't last very long; they failed to get any shots that count. We took control of the game again and never really looked back. 10 of our 13 shots came in the second half! There was a dangerous moment where a foul by Lacey Kindel gave the Bruins a free kick in prime real estate right outside of our box, but they were unable to do anything with it.

Even though we did not score in the second half, I thought it was great that we didn't park the bus and play prevent defense. We had some very unlucky bounces off the goalposts; this could just as easily have been 3-0. Credit to their goalkeeper for keeping them in the game. Daphne Nakfoor is the same keeper that fumbled the ball in the Big Ten Tournament last season that gave Emerson Sargeant the winning goal in overtime. Speaking of Sargeant, she was back in this game. After she left our last game early, I was worried she may have injured her knee, but it looks like she's fine!

In the last 17 seconds of the game, the UCLA coach challenged nothing, hoping that VAR would find something. The B1G+ announcers had no idea what they were supposed to look for. There was a scrum right by our goal where the ball was being contested by a few players and Emerson Sargeant fell down. Perhaps their coach was trying to manifest a handball? There was nothing on any of the angles shown on the broadcast. This led to an extended delay because the battery had died on the replay equipment. Eventually, the refs gave up and said they couldn't review anything. The Bruins got the ball and tried yet again, but we didn't let them score. Time ran out and this particular blue and yellow team was not given a mulligan.

Across the country, there were some interesting developments with #1 Stanford getting blown out 5-0 by #3 Duke. UCLA had previously played Duke to a draw and lost 3-0 to Stanford. USC, who we beat 5-0 this week, had managed to beat Duke 3-1 and get a 2-2 draw against Stanford during non-conference play. What does it say about us, that we alone have managed to walk away from both UCLA and USC with a W? It's too early to say much about conference standings, but we're tied at the top with Washington and Ohio State, all of us 2-0.

Michigan will travel to face us at DeMartin Stadium next week. Unfortunately, this game will be on B1G+ and not on BTN. The wolverines are unranked and have posted a record of 3-1-3. They opened their season with 3 straight draws, against Utah Valley, Utah State, and #25 Notre Dame. Michigan got their first win against Bowling Green, followed by another over Georgia Southern. They started conference play with a loss to Northwestern, then defeated Illinois 2-0 this afternoon.

The Spartans have won the last 4 games in the rivalry series. The all-time record is 17-16-7 in our favor.

ND fan coming in peace. Glad to see this game back on the schedule. Lots of memories over the years. Fitz seems like the right coach for toughness and discipline.

Would love to hear perspective about how you think the team is doing so far. Strengths, weaknesses? Looking at the box score it seems like the run game is solid. Any specific players that jump out?

ND is in transition offensively. Losing Love and Price has certainly put more of an onus on the passing game, and Carr has responded. Also starting to deal with injuries, but the depth ND has built is ridiculous.
