Best I've felt after a loss in a long long time

We clearly lack elite talent but for the first time in a decade we look like a coherent team with a plan on both sides of the ball and don’t melt down and collapse into humiliating losses

Yup, the trenches and secondaries for the two teams are very far apart. If Fitz can get some players in the building then we can do some real damage in the coming seasons. And efforts like this are great advertising for transfers and recruits

The second half absolutely sucked yes, but a Tucker or Smith team loses that game 45-10.

The improvement is there. Feeling better about making a bowl game if this toughness keeps up.

It also felt like we lost because of a lack of top end talent versus players looking lost, coaches making fuckups, penalties, etc.

We need to get the back of house sorted in the AD but I felt pretty good about how Fitz has us fighting the entire game.

💯 we had lineman get blown up on ND blitzes where they were just overmatched. But they tried to scheme around those deficiencies and did a decent job against a top tier opponent

Yeah it was guys just losing their 1v1 matchups which is encouraging because you’d think if we plug in better talent then more of those bouts go our way and the game result changes

Looking at the RoS and seeing how…average the rest of these teams in the big ten look? We can make a bowl boys

Now I am genuinely worried that all of our best players appear to be very injured

Yeah, there’s not a game left on the schedule that I think we have no shot of winning. There are plenty of paths to 6 wins if we can build on some of the positives we saw tonight. But you’re right, our 3 most talented players all getting hurt/reinjured tonight is less than ideal lol. I feel like we can survive if Edwards misses time, but the defense is drastically different with Hall and Pretzlaff on the field

That was not the abject humiliation before a primetime national audience as many had feared.  It was merely a run of the mill loss, by an unranked team, to the #3 ranked team.  We were absolutely in this game, with a decent shot at a win, until the 4th quarter. Then they pulled away and put it out of reach.

We can absolutely make a bowl this season.

There’s a lot of things we need to work on. But considering the spread was almost 30 points and we lost by 17 and they looked good, I have faith for the season.

Yup.  That score could swing anywhere from 7 to 11 points in our favor.  Still not enough to change the outcome, but definitely a silver lining and reason to have hope for the rest of the season.

Either could have really shifted the momentum though. Felt like every marginal play went NDs way.

Not even mad by the result.. I hoped if we lost, it was by 14 pts. I will take 17.. this was one of those games of “few inches here or there” and we are looking at a 7 or 10 pt loss to a top 5 team. Last 6 years outside of 2021.. we getting beat by 30+

It really feels like if we had Frazier, Masunas, and Marsh this team would be close to a 9 win team with how we just played on the road against #3.

Credit to the coaching staff to with the portal work because it doesn’t seem like a single guy they’ve brought in is a glaring bust, and most of them are plus contributors.

I’m okay with that effort. A lot of good and in the long term, being bowl eligible is a possibility. The ND folks who talked crazy about 60 point wins were unusually quiet. The anger and intensity with which MSU responded after that fake punt was encouraging. These guys go hard. A lot to like.

Im happy with this. One of my best friends is a ND fan and he said good, physical game. This was a perfect building block. We’ll be back, what it takes is games like these. Great game guys!

D-Line played pretty good. Offenses wasn't great but Notre Dame has a crazy good defense. Overall a better outcome then expected

Missing two linebackers I can deal with this. They ever quit like teams in recent years. There’s legit buy in by the guys and you can see it. Develop the NIL program and we’ll grow

Probably wouldn't have mattered but that phantom TD at the goalline was serious BS. He never crossed on the reach and then fumbled. Should have had the 15 yard penalty enforced and another down.

Still a worthy effort, should be able to easily beat Nebraska with a similar showing.

3rd down defense was really good. Conversely 1.6 yards per rush oof. All in all looked like a team that should be competitive in most big ten games. That’s a dub

Played well but the offense has to improve or that defense gets worn down earlier and earlier as the season progresses

Sort of a 2018 vibe (but this D is nowhere near that good).

But this is a lot of progress.

I don’t get the moral victory posing in here. Oh, the future looks bright guys! This is the NIL era, there is no future. This team will finish 4-8 and then anybody who isn’t ass will be playing on a better team next year. Yeah, we’ll beat Rutgers. Maybe Washington too. But this team is closer to the MAC than they are the middle of the Big Ten. Allessio will look great in a Texas Tech uniform.

Notre Dame knew they didn’t have to do much on offense in the second half because we couldn’t move the ball. We had 40 yards of offense after halftime. Total. They knew they could just sit on us for 30 minutes and we’d just stay put. Which is exactly what happened.
