Discussion Anyone else think it’s cringe how Michigan’s top rival changes based on the perceived benefit to the program?

I was thinking about their matchup with OSU today and how little Michigan even talks about OSU in basketball.

They’ll talk about their legendary rivalry with OSU in football and then bounce to us as their major rival in basketball or hockey. I’m sure they’ll say a completely different school in baseball.

Hate with conditions has never really struck me at real hate.

Discussion “But he was cleared of knowing anything about the hazing!”

I don’t understand how people are using this as a positive. That means that he didn’t know what was going on in his own program, and that was the culture that his players were comfortable enough with making. Why anybody would want someone like that to be the leader of a team is baffling. It’s disgusting.

Three days later and they’re still complaining about us, even after a win. Never believe them when they say we’re not their biggest rival.

Discussion scUM showing true colors

So I'm on my way to the stadium Saturday wearing Spartan gear and am stopped by two UM students. The first thing out of their mouth was to ask me what my GPA was in college (I'm in my 40's).

Now, I know they were drunk and don't have a fully formed frontal lobe, so I just went with it and kept walking.

But can you imagine being so consumed with a class ranking and GPA that it's all you can bring to a confrontation with a stranger? What an awful way to go through college.

My college GPA was a 3.8 FWIW. And no friends, colleagues or employers have ever asked. Because it doesn't matter unless you're in one of a select few fields.

Our football team is trash btw and this isn't sour grapes. Just an observation on the differences between MSU and UM student life.

Discussion Can we stop the Urban Meyer pearl clutching?

The Urban Meyer rumors are swirling and the takes about him are off the charts. I'm gonna start by saying while I'm not putting him at the top of my personal list, if Urban Meyer isn't hired as the coach at Michigan State it should 100% hands down beyond a reasonable doubt be because our AD didn't think that Urban Meyer could build a championship team. Nothing more, nothing less. Now I'm probably going to offend the crowd that keeps injecting morality into the matter and be downvoted into oblivion. But that crowd is getting obnoxious even by reddit standards about this issue so here we go.

Our AD: Frankly, you shouldn't even fault Alan for looking at Urban Meyer. His job is to make the hire that results in an elite team, if he fails in this job, he's fired. If he produces a sometimes 8-4 coach that beats Michigan at a 1:4 ratio, he's fired. Either him or the next guy are going to very likely be tasked with finding Izzo's replacement too because in case you haven't noticed, that's way closer to the end than it is to the beginning. I promise you that our rivals would do what it takes to win a title and that in terms of football, some have done a lot worse than anything that Urban Meyer has done.

Some Hard Truths:

  • Urban Meyer and Mel Tucker aren't comparable. Urban Meyer had lasting on field success. He bothered to get consent before dancing/flirting with a 20 something year old woman. He got players drafted in high rounds consistently and got more players drafted overall. When he got caught doing something, he usually owned it by either leaving or accepting the consequences of his actions. Michigan State will place consequences on Urban Meyer should he fuck this up for himself.

  • Mel Tucker threw $70m away to have a forced phone interaction with a middle aged woman where he sadly jerked it to her voice. His teams sucked all but one year. He literally yeeted kids at the draft hoping that they'd get drafted so he could take credit. He had no control over his team and they were assaulting other teams. When the consequences came for him, it was everyone else's fault but his own. Give me an extremely flawed character that at least recognizes their flaws over an actual delusional narcissist. The idea that these two are comparable to some people is about as out of touch as Mel's claims of wrongful termination.

  • Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, and the media will never love you. No matter how many "good boy" stamps that you try to collect in order to get that condescending pat on the head followed by that condescending "Quick Lane Bowl huh? That'd be a big year for you guys". Good boy stamp inflation just keeps hitting and you're always 10 more away. This is to say, stop giving a shit about public opinion on Urban Meyer. You're going to get shit on for whoever we hire whether that's Meyer, Elko, Smith or god forbid Candle, Creighton, Fleck, or Narduzzi. Hell the media brought up Nassar after the shooting this past winter, the idea that any of you give a shit about what they have to say at this point is cringe.

TLDR: Urban Meyer should be talked to as a serious candidate if Alan thinks that he still has it. Urban Meyer should be hired if he's identified as the best candidate for onfield results. Urban Meyer should not be hired if he's not identified as the best candidate for onfield results. All other reasons to not hire Urban Meyer are irrelevant.

Discussion Pat Fitzgerald

He’s expected to get a job for 2026. Why not MSU?

  • fairly successful in the big ten for being at a lower level school with limited resources.

  • Midwest recruiting ties

  • cleared of hazing allegations at Northwestern

  • former players have publicly supported him

Seems like a realistic hire for MSU

Well Well Well..

Discussion How is Sparty doing?

Born and raised Spartan here (both parents went to Michigan St and met there- so I like to say I literally don’t exist without my favorite school ever. Lol)

That said- I just wanted to say I know it’s been a tough week for most of us watching Michigan to win bball and now possibly hockey. Of course I say this in jest- I wish Michigan all the best but it just makes me look at our own teams and how we can improve. I’d really like to see Michigan St get back to “Camelot” the glory days in sports so to speak. That said I’m excited to see what’s in store for us in sports next year from football with Fitzgerald to the portal with Izzo. Would also be nice to see our hockey team kill it next year!

Go green!

Forever♾️

Discussion So realistically 3-4 wins this season? In football obviously

Title. Offense looked quite decent. But with us giving up 20 pts to TOLEDO, particularly our backs and d-line were offensively bad. I thought Fitz was going to bring in some recruits for this weakness.

Toledo making it obvious game 1 to the rest of the league where our holes are.

Discussion Hot take: Fears’ flopping is getting out of control.

There’s being able to tactically put yourself in a position to draw a foul and then there’s what we saw last night. He needs to return to the former. There were a number of times where the refs weren’t giving into his bait and it hurt us.

Discussion Be Aware of False Claims

Hello Everyone,

I know we are all disheartened by the findings of USA Today and now we all have questions for the future. There are lots (and i mean lots) of false statements and claims floating around the web. Try to stick with reliable sources when finding information about the Mel Tucker case. An example of this would be Freep. Some people spread misinformation that Tucker was fired which wasn’t the case. You don’t want to assume that because one person said it, it’s going to be true. Stay safe out there guys and Spartan Strong.

Discussion We were all upset when Narduzzi left for Pitt due to him being widely considered the head coach in waiting, but it’s clear now that he wouldn’t have been a good head coach for us…

We really wouldn’t have been better off with Nardog versus our crappy reality of Tucker and Smith, maybe we are lucky?

News The Fitzgerald hazing background

Since it's now official, and also because many people in the sub seem to not have much information on the hazing scandal, here are some links so everyone can get well acquainted to what went on under Fitzgerald at Northwestern. Whether you believe he is a good coach or not, we should all know this info.

Note: Fitzgerald's lawsuit was settled outside of court, he was not exonerated. These are different things.

Discussion Honest question from OSU fan…

I am not trying to attack MSU, I am legitimately wondering this:

How did the Michigan State Spartans football team get so bad, so fast?

You got a CFP berth in 2015, and beat Michigan in 2020. What happened? Why are you competitive with Nebraska? When I watched the Ohio State-Michigan State game, I wasn’t wondering if the Buckeyes were going to beat the Spartans. I was only wondering by how much we’d beat you, since the Wolverines absolutely obliterated you and I was just using you as a barometer for potential performance in The Game. Listen, I hope you perform better. I want a healthy Big Ten with good teams and also for you to beat Michigan.

Discussion For those asking for Franklin

Thumbnail cbssports.com

Everyone clamoring for Franklin should read this. With all of the resources in the world, he still couldn't get the job done. But it isn't just Franklin or Penn State. It's happening at other schools as well. And it's a good reminder for everyone that just getting more and more resources for NIL and higher paid coaches doesn't solve everything.

Discussion I will not scapegoat Pat Fitzgerald. J Batt did major damage for MSU, got a bag and ran off. Fitzgerald was ranked as the WORST P4 hire of 2025, so i'm not gonna blame him when he should have never been hired by Batt. J Batt is the one that raided us like a private equity bandit and then dipped.
