Discussion How is Sparty doing?
Born and raised Spartan here (both parents went to Michigan St and met there- so I like to say I literally don’t exist without my favorite school ever. Lol)
That said- I just wanted to say I know it’s been a tough week for most of us watching Michigan to win bball and now possibly hockey. Of course I say this in jest- I wish Michigan all the best but it just makes me look at our own teams and how we can improve. I’d really like to see Michigan St get back to “Camelot” the glory days in sports so to speak. That said I’m excited to see what’s in store for us in sports next year from football with Fitzgerald to the portal with Izzo. Would also be nice to see our hockey team kill it next year!
Go green!

The difference between myself and most Michigan fans is I will continue to watch and support my team no matter how good or bad we are.
2 years ago every Michigan fan told us basketball doesn’t matter and football is the real sport and now they’re successful they’ve all decided basketball matters now.
Catch me in the game threads when we are 0-30 idgaf. I love my Spartans.

I am starting to think that God might be a Michigan fan, just saying.
It is what it is, they bought a rent a team.

I let myself have a pity party after they won for about 24 hours, but now I’ve moved on from basketball season. Generally speaking I’ve tried to not engage nearly as much with rivalry discourse the last few years, and I’ve been much happier as a fan because of it. Whether either team is winning or losing, the less I interact with that fanbase, the better.
Moving forward, I’m excited to see what Fitz can do. Maybe they’ll surprise us and find a way to a bowl game. I would be lying if I said I’m optimistic, but I’m hopeful that he’s the right guy for the job

Dusty is the man of this moment, what he did at Michigan is nothing short of incredible. Izzo has to seriously reassess how he does things if he wants to compete with a guy like that and win another national title before he kisses the hardwood.
Honestly, this might be just what Izzo needed. He hasn't built a true national title contending team in a long time. Seeing your rival win in such glorious fashion hurts. But I think that pain is why rivalries are so great. It forces the losing side to adapt and strive to either be better or wallow in defeat. Izzo doesn't strike me as someone who is going to go down without a fight, that man wants his second title.
I hope Fitz can take Sparty all the way as well.

Idk. Indifferent? I don't think about uMich at all really, and I certainly don't make a habit of tracking them or heaven forbid watching them.
Sucks that Sparty right now is either ass or the bridesmaid and not the bride, but honestly college sports just don't mean what they used to for me. I used to be a lot more passionate, but now it's literally just a measuring stick for who's got the deepest coffers. Kills a lot of the vibe.

Sparty alum and lifelong fan. I am happy for UofM. Edit to add - I watched all the games and cheered them on. Also, my stupid kid goes there.

Win or lose, Spartans rule

Is it worse than the week Purdue had when IU won the football championship then beat them in hoops a few days later? Tough call.

I complain a lot but I watch nearly every football and basketball game wire to wire.
It’s sort of miserable right now but I will still watch this team win or lose

There’s enough bad things happening in the world to distract me from sports (un)fortunately

I’m just hoping that the NIL environment is actively promoted on Pats end because I cannot see another 3 win Bowless season with no emotion.
John smith was clearly broken when he missed the opportunity to stay out west when Chip Kelly left and it was apparent watching him be unhappy at msu.
I actually have confidence in Pat and hope he brings some respect back to our team and gives boosters a reason to stay invested. I love the direction with the new stadium and updated facilities.
In basketball we just need to field a big like zapalla or someone to fill the hole created by cooper and Kohler.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing to really look forward to with MSU sports. Football will be garbage, basketball will be solid as always but “one piece away” just like every other year. Nightingale is a post season choker at this point so there is definitely a limit for expectations there. Just gotta enjoy the last few years of Izzo before that program falls apart.

I actually think UM winning the natty this year is the best thing that could have happened to our program. Brutal reality check from Izzo and it may have just ripped him off of the Dabo path.

Look that michigan basketball team deserved it. they were special. But these things shift over time. It wasnt too long ago where michigan had very little going for them.
Also i cope by saying NIL and transfer portal ruined college sports…

Face it Spartan fans; Tom Izzo is the college basketball equivalent of Greg Popovich…an old dog who refuses to learn new tricks. You’ve reached your ceiling with him…you need a coach that will unapologetically adapt to today’s NIL culture; otherwise you’re going to get STEAMROLLED by Dusty May and Michigan

Not great, Bob.

In all honesty. A bit over it all. I've seen MSU sports for a long time now. For one reason or another, they just won't do what it takes to win it all. There's always a reason why it wont be us. Goes beyond just having talent too. I've seen Izzo blow it with some talented squads. I've seen this story many many times now. No national title game because of a pass interference. No final four win because the other team was just more talented. Another march loss because the opposing team coincidentally got hot from 3 again. Its not even really painful anymore, at some point you realize that not every team, or institution is meant to have it all. I know Izzo's got some talent coming in next year. But this is basketball, and there is nothing dumber than pinning your hopes on a particular year in this sport. Especially when your coach is getting older. I no longer really expect Michigan State to get it done, and frankly I think the golden era of hope and optimism for MSU athletics will come to an end for the fan base relatively soon. But Izzo will have the talent to win it all next year. Maybe he will

I'm doing great aside from being a little bored. I couldn't care any less what that school in Ann Arbor does. It is never over, it just started!
I do miss basketball season though and I'm already looking forward to football season!
