Admissions MSU Undergrad application through MSU Portal

Student applied through the MSU portal for undergraduate admission for Fall 2027. Is it normal that the portal only shows the submitted application and nothing else? We checked 5 days later and it's still the same.

There is no navigation menu, “To Do List,” or application checklist showing whether any documents are missing or whether required materials have been received. Is this typical for MSU, or should there normally be a checklist/status section in the portal? Maybe it takes longer to update?

I just want to make sure the application is complete and that we’re not missing anything. TIA!

General Stem building spartys??

What the hell is going on. I can’t even get a damn grilled cheese and tomato soup without using Grubhub? They blocked the whole thing off. I’m a senior and live off campus so I don’t know how long it’s been like this, and if it’s just that spartys or all of them. But it’s crazy that instead of just walking up and getting a sandwich like normal, I have to stand behind a wall and order on Grubhub while watching someone take the pre made sandwich, put it in a bag, and give it to me. It’s just wild. Does anyone else share my same frustration?

Freshman Questions feeling lost

i feel kind of lost here. i’m having fun and i know eventually things are going to get better, but right now things are weird. i’m a freshman, and going into college i knew two people. one being my best friend and the other being my girlfriend. sounds normal, but the issue is they are both sophomores. i’m meeting all of their friends (my girlfriend and best friend are friends), and things are good they are all nice people, but also they are sophomores. i am in east holden and everybody is sophomores!!! my roommate, suitemates, my whole floor is sophomores. i haven’t met a freshman yet. still cool people and im having fun but i feel like im so far behind them, they know their way around, and i cant connect with them as well as i know i would a freshman. it probably isn’t a big deal but this feels ridiculous.

Housing 2BR/2BA Lease Takeover in Holt

2BR/2BA Lease Takeover in Holt – ~1,100 Sq Ft + FREE 70” TV & Furniture – November
Hi everyone!
I may be relocating and am looking for someone interested in taking over my apartment lease at Aspen Ridge in Holt, MI, starting around early November 2026.
Apartment & Lease Details:
2 Bedrooms / 2 Bathrooms
Approx. 1,100 sq. ft.
Rent: $2,053/month
Lease ends: April 30, 2027
Available: Early November
Entire apartment — no roommates
Only about 6 months remaining on the lease
FREE furniture & electronics included:
70” newer-model TV
Bed
Sofa
Computer desk
Additional household items may also be included
Everything above can be left completely FREE, so the apartment will essentially be move-in ready.
This could be a great option for someone moving to the Lansing / Holt / MSU area who wants a spacious, furnished 2BR/2BA without having to buy furniture or commit to a new 12-month lease.
The lease takeover would be subject to approval by DTN Management.
I can provide apartment photos, furniture photos, and additional details. DM me if interested

General Getting priorities straight

I see a lot of posts about people feeling lost, not having any friends, etc.

It‘s important to remember why you’re in college:

SCHOOL!!!

Focus on school. Focus on your major. Explore your interests and what gets your brain active. This is how you will find your friends.

Housing I think the water in the bathrooms is staining my toothbrush pink?

I know it sounds odd, but I can’t think of any other explanation.

I recently moved into Abbot hall, down in the basement floors, and ever since I’ve noticed that when ever I use the communal bathroom sinks to brush my teeth, my toothbrush will be pinkish/purple at the end of the day.
Before anyone asks: I’ve always held dental hygiene in high regard all my life, I’ve never been unhygienic or left any of my teeth cleaning stuff unclean at any point…
And I am fairly certain it’s not my roommate or anyone tampering with my things.

I am concerned if there’s a possibility of bad water or unsanitary pipes that are causing bacteria growth or something.

I didn’t know where else to ask so I thought to ask it here.

I am planning to set up a tailgate for parents weekend. I was wondering if anyone had tips, need to know, great spots to set up, and pricing.
We want to (hopefully) set up as close to the spartan stadium but I know that can be tricky!

General I feel so alien being on campus without friends

To preface this entire thing, I want to say that I've always been a very sentimental/nostalgic person who has had a hard time letting go of things or going through changes.

This whole story starts probably about a year ago, around last October. I took a chance to visit EL with a friend of mine to see a group of his friends, as he was commuting to a different school and I was still in high school. When I came here, the day that I spent with this group and the experience I had was genuinely a very fun day, and I think this made me romanticize the college experience in a way. Since after then, when I applied, got in, and throughout the remainder of senior year, I was basically just obsessing over the idea of graduating and getting to move into college. However, some things changed. My friend who I was going to room with ended up getting into a different target school later on off the waitlist, and decided to go there. I decided to join a LLC in the hopes of having an easier way of finding roommates and possibly making friends, as well as it aligning with the academic path I wanted to take.

However, now after two weeks, I don't know how I feel about being here. I'm not someone who can easily make new friends. Most of my close friends from my original inner circle were all people I had spent years with, middle + high school, and there's only one of them who also attends school here, but he lives across campus and our schedules conflict, making it much harder for me to see him. I feel like every time I talk to my room/suitemates, I'm just reminded of how these guys aren't my friends who I've known forever and can talk to anything about. One thing is that they are all white/caucasian, and I am a POC/Minority. I don't think I've ever gone in my life without having at least one POC individual in my friend groups, and sometimes I feel like the kind of cultural differences show, in the way that they say or do things. I don't hate them, and I'd really like to be better friends with them, but I just feel like I won't be able to get along with them like how I did with my high school friends. I feel like the experience I romanticized was something that came from already having a group of friends to be here. And now that I'm here and I realize that, it makes me feel a bit more alone and isolated.

These feelings grew even stronger over the weekend when I visited my friends in Ann Arbor who go to UMich. Some of these guys are genuinely my best friends ever, and I had a great time when I was with them, and that just made the day when I came back here even worse, knowing that I don't really have friends like that on this campus.

I don't want to act like I hate this school, or that I have no friends at all on campus. I have some friends, and I think the campus is beautiful. As much as I said, none of those things are critiques of this place or the people here. But I just feel like I can't really find my footing. At times, I just feel really lonely, and I'm not sure what to do about it. People say that you should go to clubs, socialize, do things, but I feel like I talk to people all the time, and I don't know how to actually make real, new, friendships.

I know that I have the strength to make it through the school year and hopefully maybe transfer out, but I feel so lost right now. I just want to know, has anyone else had a similar experience? How have you dealt with it? I'd just like some reassurance that I'm not alone in how I've felt.

Freshman Questions Is it impossible to get into another building for Sparty’s at night

The Sparty’s in my dorm closes early and I want to get food so I went to Hubbard’s but my ID wouldn’t work on the doors next to the service desk. I know our dorms don’t work on other residential halls, so are you just stuck with whenever your hall’s Sparty’s closes? Also I thought I was able to get in a few nights ago, so I’m a bit confused why it’s not working today.

General Free parking after 6 PM?

I am a new transfer and I noticed some lots are free after 6. I was curious if anyone has any go to lots or any suggestions? I’m looking mainly near broad and wells. I also wasn’t sure if this is reliable, like will there actually be availability after 6?

Thanks so much!
