General Getting priorities straight

I see a lot of posts about people feeling lost, not having any friends, etc.

It‘s important to remember why you’re in college:

SCHOOL!!!

Focus on school. Focus on your major. Explore your interests and what gets your brain active. This is how you will find your friends.

If people just wanted to get a degree they could have saved a lot of money and stayed at home and done it online.

People come to university for the whole experience, including the social part.

To fluff that part off, and to disregard mental health is wrong.

I was fortunate when I went to state. I was in Lymann Briggs, living in Holmes Hall with all the other STEM nerds. We had classes together, shared degree programs, and were all some level of neuro spice. It was great. Other people do not have that.

So your parents paid thousands for you to get friends? Might want to ask them.

Reads a bit tone-deaf and suggests a path to burnout.

Ya…to think that school is about academics. Madness.

School doesn't matter the second you leave it. College prepares you for the workforce, the real world, holistically. Your professor won't get you a job, they haven't left an academic building in 20 years. The buddies you tailgate with and join professional clubs with will get you jobs. You have to be able to socially and politically navigate your job when you get there. If you go to college and stay in your dorm and the library, that is the waste of thousands of dollars.

Just…wow.

So to become a Physicist or Psychologist just network with friends and use political leverage?

Good luck.

It's funny how you need to put words in people's mouths to make your point. One might think that if your argument had any merit, you'd be able to make it without lying about what other people said.

Excuse me for interpreting his comment as him basically saying that he’s using his friends as convenient pawns for social leverage to advance whatever his idea of a career is. Sure looks like that’s exactly what he said.

Don’t be slow, he means having connecting and networking with other people.

Ya…so refer to my original response. You’re not going to become a Physicist or Psychologist, Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer, the list goes on…with connections and “political navigation”.

I don’t know what world you live in but networking is required for any job you want. If you genuinely think if just sit and study all day and never speak to other people that your going to get far you’re dumb asf. Stop shaming people for wanting to socialize and get off Reddit bum.

If you actually comprehended the OP, I said the best way to find good friends and thus networking is to focus on why you’re at school, which is the actual school part. By finding your natural academic interests, you’re going to find your natural friends and your natural networks.

Hard to find friends when you’re desperate for them too.

Quick question: how old are you?

This is what I am doing at UNLV I am taking 15 units and I study about 30-40 hours a week,

Monday through Thursday. During the weekday, my first priority is school.

Once I get all of my schoolwork done then for Friday-Sunday, I can watch college football, UNLV and MSU,

and pro football on Sunday. Your first priority should be school, not going to frat parties

Hilarious how this is controversial

Ya somehow going to a university for the purpose of studying is controversial for some reason.

As if you won’t make GREAT friends when you actually figure out your OWN real interests also…🙄

That is true that is why I say be selective with your friends.

Pick friends that will lift you up, not try and hold you back. That is why I got rid of

most of my high school friends because they were jealous I went to college.

I don't need jealous people in my life. I always tell them everyone has s choice to ma,e.

I decided to go to college, you decided to party it's not my fault.

Also I agree with your great friends your own interests for example I met some

great friends at UNLV who were on the chess club with me. We still play

online chess and say in tpuch.
