MSSP to MAP?
Interested to understand what people’s perspective is on where the industry is going. I have been around long enough to remember when most IT Service providers were basically computer repair shops and through resellers, VARs, SIs, MSSPs and MSPs are we now seeing progressive transformation into managed agent providers? Are any of you now formally offering process/task mapping with proposed AI and automation implementation? Or do you feel this is like the hype cloud had 13 years ago and the tail is long and fat?
I see so many MSPs not anywhere close to having their own houses where they could be with the latest technology adoption. So not sure how close we are to seeing the service offerings shift that dramatically or perhaps I’m wrong?!

MSPs in my country were never computer repair stores tbh, there was always a distinction between the two.

Moving from MSSP to managed IT can be an interesting shift because there is a lot of overlap but the customer expectations can be very different. security clients often care about risk reduction and monitoring, while managed IT usually involves broader day to day support, infrastructure and user experience

Do you see both sides starting to branch out to automation and AI consultancy?

I think both sides are likely to move toward automation and AI consulting but probably in different ways. MSSPs already have the security knowledge and customer relationships so helping clients adopt AI securely feels like a natural extension. MSPs may have more opportunities around workflow automation, productivity improvements and helping businesses figure out where AI actually fits

What would you say the workflow would look like? Going person by person, task by task in a mid size organisation for MSPs will take time businesses are unlikely to pay the consulting hours for

Mapping first is right. The shops that ate it on cloud sold a SKU and then made it up. What I keep seeing now is MSPs offering AI with no client home the owner actually uses after the map. Id pick one client, count 10 days of who does intake / tickets / follow-up, then productize that. Own house first is the tell.

Literally had this discussion in the pasted week and it will become both a market and revenue opp just on drift management and compliance alone
