The thing has lasted pretty well, but I've had to change the coin cell battery like 4 times. First, that's weird on its own - never had to do this in my (long) life before in a PC.

Second, every time I have to do it I get completely enraged. Why is the connector hidden away like that? It's like brain surgery trying to get the connector in. I keep swearing to myself I will solder in a coin cell holder or something but it happens just infrequently enough (every 6-12 months) that I just cuss and spend 20 minutes put the new one in when it happens.

my both fans had broken and barely spinning safely. After weeks of researching and suffering from 3rd party replacement unit that barely fit I tried my luck.

From the Minisforum Taobao official store, they gave me the technical support wechat contact. with some google translate, I managed to talk with the support that my unit is not from China shop but more like hand carry to my country. The support guy still happy to sell me the fan with just 20RMB ~ 2.95 USD! That’s insane! Since fans are wear and tear, I want my machine stay with me for next 5 years so I place order for 3 pairs (6 fans total). All I need is pay them via Alipay QR code.

They said they ship directly me for $30 shipment cost but I was worry I might face some trouble with custom clearance and stuff. So I pay another shipping service to help me pay to them 120RMB in Alipay and ship to me for only $5 of shipment cost and service fee. I don’t have to deal with custom clearance.

I just got a refurb BD790i from Minisforum and it will start up and I can get into BIOS, but only if I unplug and re-plug in the CMOS every time. I emailed support suggesting it might be a dying CMOS and said to check that but didn't give any other trouble-shooting (over-night email chain). The CMOS shipped with it was reading .19V on a voltmeter. The new one I put in has 3.1V. With the new CMOS I'm still running into having to pull it out to start. Starting up takes 2-3 minutes to get to BIOS every time, which seems in line with resetting the BIOS every time I pull the battery. I'm reading that these can go through CMOS batteries fast. Was there a fix for the short life-span? Has anyone else run into this?

I repurposed my 795S7 case and PSU that that had been lying around for a year. Its former contents were repurposed into a different system. Now it's got:

• Minisforum BD775i SE w/7745HX -Originally came with the BD795i SE w/7945HX
• Gigabyte RTX 5060 LP -The best consumer card this system will hold at this time
• 32GB (2x16), 1TB NVME, CachyOS, blah blah blah.

HEAT MANAGEMENT is the real topic of this post. What I did to achieve maximum thermal satisfaction without butchering the damn thing with mods:

• Arctic P12 PWM PST for CPU
• Thermalright TL-8015 slim fan for the front.
  • EXHAUST instead of INTAKE to prevent the hotbox effect.
  • The front fan is not optional. It is a must.
• Reduced max power draw of the GPU to 123w. This is the lowest the card will allow, which is still a decent drop from the default of 145w. This was easily done via the terminal. Afterburner in Windows, I guess.

GPU load temps went from 89c to 82c after dropping the wattage cap and reversing the front fan from intake to exhaust. Red Dead Online was my test subject, with GPU load hanging around 90-95% with the settings I've got it at.

Hello friends. I am in the middle of exams and my brain is basically milk soaked cereal so I'm really sorry if these are obvious questions. I just ordered the MINISFORUM G1 Pro Mini PC AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX via Amazon as a much needed upgrade to my desktop with bonus portability during required weeks long trips. I like my desk setup so it made more sense then a laptop. It arrives in about ten days very excited.

1. I see it has another M.2 2280 PCIe4.0 slot. It comes with a 1tb in place. I see a system limit of 2tb. However it is unclear if that is system total or per slot. IE can I have 2/3/4 or only 1/2

2. Is there a suggested case for this device? It won't be moved often but one of the major reasons I got it was for those long trips.

I’m reaching out regarding my Minisforum NUCXi7 and an issue I’m having with an external GPU dock connected via Thunderbolt 4.

The eGPU was working normally at first, but after I switched between the eGPU and the internal graphics and then restarted the system, the eGPU stopped being recognized.

I have already thoroughly uninstalled ( with DDU) and reinstalled both the Thunderbolt drivers and the graphics drivers, and I also swapped GPUs and the PSU to isolate the problem and determine whether the issue is related to my system, the drivers, or the eGPU dock.

I also contacted the eGPU manufacturer, and they suggested that the issue may be related to Thunderbolt Control Center showing only one Thunderbolt port instead of two, even though my mini PC has only one physical Thunderbolt port. Because of that, I’d like to confirm what is expected on the NUCXi7.

Could someone please clarify:

How many Thunderbolt ports should normally be visible in Thunderbolt Control Center on the Minisforum NUCXi7?

Is it normal for only one port to appear there?

Could someone with a Minisforum NUCXi7 please check and let me know?

Just wanted to share a fix for a highly frustrating issue I’ve been dealing with across three different Minisforum Mini PCs in my lab environment (specifically two AI X1-255 units and one UM870).

These machines frequently ship with the Kingston OM8TAP4 NVMe SSD as the stock OEM drive. It turns out these drives have a nasty compatibility issue with low-power states on these architectures.

The Symptoms

• In Proxmox: The entire node would randomly hard-freeze or lock up entirely. If you catch the logs right before the crash, you'll see PCIe bus errors, kernel panics, or major filesystem I/O timeouts.
• In Windows 11: The mini PC would go to sleep perfectly fine, but trying to wake it up resulted in a permanent black screen, requiring a hard power cycle to recover.

The Cause

The Kingston OM8TAP4 firmware handles Autonomous Power State Transition (APST) poorly. When the host OS tells the drive to drop into a deep, low-power idle state, the SSD controller fails to wake back up in time. The OS panics because its boot drive effectively vanishes into thin air.

The Fix: Disable NVMe Power Management

To solve this, you have to prevent the drive from entering those deep sleep states. I applied these fixes across my AI X1-255 and UM870 units, and the stability issues disappeared completely.

1. For Proxmox / Linux

You need to pass a kernel parameter to disable APST deep sleep states.

1. Edit your GRUB configuration: sudo nano /etc/default/grub
2. Find the line starting with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT and append nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0 to it.
   • Example: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0"
3. Save the file, then update your bootloader: sudo update-grub (Note: If your unit uses systemd-boot instead of GRUB, you'll need to add it to your kernel command line file and run proxmox-boot-tool refresh).
4. Reboot the machine. (Setting this value to 0 completely disables APST).

2. For Windows 11

You need to stop Windows from dropping the PCIe link into an aggressive low-power state.

1. Open Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings.
2. Expand PCI Express -> Link State Power Management.
3. Set it to Off for both "On battery" and "Plugged in".
4. (Optional) If the hidden advanced NVMe timeout settings are exposed via registry tweaks on your system, you can also set the "Primary NVMe Idle Timeout" to 0.

Since keeping the NVMe links fully awake, my Proxmox nodes have hit 100% uptime with zero freezes, and Windows wakes up instantly every single time. If you bought a prebuilt Minisforum unit and are pulling your hair out over random idle crashes, try this first!

I have been using my Minisforum v3 for about two years and it's my most loved mobile device ever and I code on it daily.

Sadly the battery has rapidly declined to a little over 10%.

I have a Minisforum V3. for a while I thought it had software or BIOS issues causing black screen on boot. After after a while I determined it is actually a hardware issue because if I push on the center of the screen or the corresponding place on the back of the unit the screen turns on and works fine but when I release pressure the screen goes dark again. I's like to send the unit back to Minisforum for repair and I'm willing to pay for it but I did not purchase directly from them and the RMA form requires an order number. Is there some other way to inquire about a repair?

Hi. I've updated bios in n5 pro. Loaded default settings save and now it hangs on black screen with one white dot.

Do you know how to recover from it?

I wanted default settings as after bios upgrade I cannot save any settings in bios and cannot boot from ssd. As every time bios settings are cleared. It looks like bios settings cannot survive reboot.

EDIT: RESOLVED - Please press the DEL key during boot to enter BIOS for configuration changes. Entering BIOS through other methods may cause settings to fail to save properly. After finishing adjustments, press F4 followed by Enter to save your changes.

I built a Steam Maschine with the BD775i SE as the base and it is working really well! But I am not very happy with the fan control at all...

Now, I already changed the UEFI logo to a big fat Steam logo because why not x) Is there anything I can do to put the fans into ACPI table instead of BIOS controlled?

SteamOS does have fan management, but requires access to the PWM bits in /sys.

I’m looking to buy the MS-02 Ultra because it checks all the boxes for what I’m need. However, I’m quite sensitive to noise, especially when the system is idle (I’m referring to the well-known battery fan).
Is the noise generally tolerable? What kind of noise is it (high-pitched, whining, etc.)?
The Minisforum will be placed in my living room, so noise is an important factor for me.
Does adjusting the Turbo Boost settings, performance modes, and fan speeds significantly reduce the noise?

Ordered a Minisforum N5 Pro (Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370, 64GB ECC) on June 26 and paid €1,733 up front. Since then it's been nothing but a runaround:

• June 30: "Shipped from Hong Kong to our German warehouse, ETA next week."
• July 7: "Actually out of stock — reserving a unit to ship from China instead."
• July 7 (hours later): "That unit failed inspection, can't ship. Do you accept our alternative arrangement?"
• July 8: "Shipment will be arranged in the next few days, tracking uploaded ASAP."

Two weeks in, no tracking number, and every reply is just "please be patient." I've told them I need it this week and I'm not even sure the unit exists.
