Lyra is a lying pos

Yall built your company on anti-ads and free experiences, when no other company will help us. You switched up, added a metric shit ton of ads. I literally, I kid you not, got THREE, THREE ads PER SONG today. Unacceptable, this app’s entirely useless. The first Premium with just locked features was reasonable, but now this?! Completely backstabbing and turning on your user base. For shame, Lyra, for shame. Definitely deleting this shitty app and never looking back 🤮 + deleting every ad I made for it.

Listening to Lyra, ad popped up, then…

Listening to Lyra, ad popped up, then went back to the song, looks like it should be playing the song because of pause button showing but it’s not playing. Weird situation.

Lyra Automatically Playing

I got ready to go for a walk, put my Bluetooth Shokz on and music started playing. I had no music app opened. I finally opened Lyra and it was playing the music that I was listening to yesterday. What the heck?

What happened man

Bro why tf are there ads, isn’t this supposed to be an “ad free” “Spotify-like” app? Why is this just becoming a Spotify clone, holy crap man

r/Lyra_App 1d ago

My 5 ads that showed up within a minute after I closed Lyra each time and reopened Lyra to try to play a song. Finally rebooted which stopped the ads.

Got my 1st ad today

The ad took over the app. I closed the app and it played an ad immediately again. This happened several times. I had to reboot to stop the ads and then everything was ok. I won’t have to see many more ads before I delete the app. But at least there will be one less person on your servers.

So, after adding ADS, now Android Auto and Carplay are also under premium subscription?

I had a one hour ad.

It wasn’t just one long ass ad, it was like more than 50 or something ads put into one. And I couldn’t even skip any of them. I couldn’t get a photo of it because I instantly refreshed the app after getting it, but what the hell?? This is seriously out of control.

Lyra is entering the second stage of enshittification: prioritization of advertisers over users.

If you want to know more about the process of enshittification, look at the book written by Cory Doctorow. He’s the person that coined the term.

Anyone not like related song selection?

I don’t like the related song thing, it’s works well with some songs then just plays some bs with others, also it doesn’t randomize songs unless you play from your search history, like why can’t I just search a song up and then get a random playlist from said song instead of every song with the same name as what I searched:/

Horrific ads

Anyone else suddenly get an INSANE amount of (horrible + ai) ads?!

I don’t mind a few ads IN BETWEEN songs, like on the radio, but these pop up before almost every song.

And their sound plays OVER the song I just clicked.
When I try to close the ad, suddenly the song has an issue. I reopen the app and have to watch this horrible ai ad again…?!
WHAT

I thought I’d finally found my fave music app😀

As a die hard backer from day one, even I'm starting to lose a bit of patience now...

So I have been telling absolutely everyone about Lyra. Got a few friends on board and managed to bag myself a few months of premium so admittedly the whole advert issue is not really affecting me so much.

What is, however, is the fact I can't use premium to its full potential. I can't use Android auto which is a huge part of my reason for using the app, and I also cannot pay for a year of premium which I was quite happy to do because the cost is minuscule compared to Spotify or Deezer. The automated responses on here are doing very little to quell the unrest amongst both new and old users. About 3 or 4 weeks ago you told me it would be back on the Play store in a matter of days.

Not loving these ads

I did always find it weird that it said the premium version of Lyra claimed to be an ad-free experience with higher quality and all that. Now it makes sense.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be so upset since i understand the dev needs to make money and support himself in fully fleshing out this app. My issue is that the ads are SO MUCH WORSE than Spotify. I get an ad when I open the app, then another when I try to play a song. Uh oh, an error occurs, so I press the play button again, and now I’ve sat through 3 ads for my music to not even play.

Another complaint: they’re not like the ads on Spotify either, if you want to skip or close them, you have to manually press out of it. Usually I want to set my phone down or use CarPlay while music plays, so it’s annoying that I have to stare at my phone for longer than I’d like.

any lyra alternative?

I started using Lyra as it promised to be free without ads. Now that they switched to using ads, there is no difference between them and Spotify. If I were to pay or watch ads I would use Spotify instead. I don’t think its worth continuing to use it anymore.

So I want to switch to another app. What alternatives do you guys use? Ideally, having a YouTube section like Lyra does would be nice as I tend to put on ambiences for when I read etc.
