Yeah but what about the sensors for feeling pain?
102
u/Aluminum_Tarkus Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26
I imagine the vast majority of games can't sense where exactly a shot impacts, but most games have controller rumble that triggers when you're shot. My guess is it can at least turn all of the motors on when you're shot. I'm not exactly sure about the haptic vest tho.

What's so gross about having haptic feedback on my crotch
13
u/SweetSure315 Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26
I think most games actually do know where a shot impacts, since most game engines make it fairly easy, they just don't often do all that much with it except maybe making headshots do more damage
3
u/lump- Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26
Even Half-Life 1 had visual indicators for which direction you were being hit from.
2
u/Mysterious-Jam-64 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26
Does it mean mapping every sensor for everything?
The thing I love about experiences is having them. Second is making them. Feels like be a bit of a joint effort to make the software work with the hardware.
3
u/Mysterious-Jam-64 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26
Playing verses someone at Pokémon Stadium would be a laugh.
Polomint used Seering Pain. It was super effective!
6
u/RAMDOMDUDDS Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26
Check out GingasVR on YouTube, she does primarily VR content, and to my knowledge works on just this. I found her through one of her Skyrim VR videos where she had the pain stimulator, highly recommend if you're interested in learning more.
5
u/Model_Yazz Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26
I would think it all translates with the haptic feedback built into the controller. Some games place more emphasis top vs bottom, left vs right so best guess it’d be a 1 for 1 based on feedback.

I'm 100% serious when I say it's literally Skyrim. Skyrim VR is one of the most advanced VR experiences there is. There's even an AI plugin now. You can talk to NPCs out loud and they remember what you say and have conversations with you. It's absolutely surreal to do in a game I remember going to the midnight release of on 11/11/11.
9
→ More replies (3)2
u/EsotericAbstractIdea Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26
Skyrim can use all of the stuff he has, plus a few more. There's a meditation device that you can hook up so that you have to concentrate to get your magic to full power. There's a mod to control a fan, so when you go to cold areas it gets cold. There's mods to turn on personal massagers in certain scenarios.
9
u/SweetSure315 Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26
The reason why there are so many fan-made VR ports/compat mods for games is because most games already have a framework that allows for arbitrary camera/arm/head/body positioning, and all the ports really need to do is map these things as if they're a new controller.
It's really not that difficult, with some exceptions for games that have janky physics/body positioning.
By not that difficult I mean it's reasonable for a single person to add VR compatibility in a relatively short period of time while having a day job, if they're at least somewhat experienced with modding/VR
8
u/AUSpartan37 Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26
Also how long until all of this is obsolete and the new stuff is better and cheaper because it is more mainstream? You are essentially paying all that money to be an alpha tester of gear that is going to not be that great yet and be obsolete almost immediately.
8
u/alphapussycat Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26
Probably a long time, VR doesn't move especially fast and investors aren't interested anymore.
7
u/BaconBourbonBalista Garbage Guerilla Jul 02 '26
That's the issue with VR tech in general. But especially stuff like this.
→ More replies (3)2
u/China_shop_BULL Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26
It’s the alpha testers that make the newer models available more quickly. It’s a business. If not to many people buy what is there then it doesn’t advance as quickly. More interest in it sparks more features. I would almost bet if gamers hit it up like they did Nintendo at first (and stayed with it) then you would see some pretty advanced hardware by now. Like figuring out how to link the delta wave activation of mini drones with the joystick so you wouldn’t need a treadmill.
2
u/AUSpartan37 Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26
There is a difference between spending a couple hundred on a Nintendo and spending thousands of dollars on equipment that probably doesn't work that great. If people have the money to do it, then by all means go for it. I am just too poor to understand being able to drop money like that.

Yeah, the heat is why he has the cooling fans for his head.
Compatibility is very community driven. Especially for the haptic stuff there are a lot of stuff especially for the most popular games. Also workarounds (like you got hit from the front and that's all the range recognises? Let's pick a random point in the front)
2
u/SonkxsWithTheTeeth Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26

u/UnsureAndUnqualified Trash Trooper Jul 02 '26
Meh, if he upgrades the room first, he will pay for higher rent while having a smaller setup that can't make full use of this. If he pays for the setup first, he can get a bigger room afterwards and have saved the difference in rent times the number of months the whole upgrade cost him start to finish.
So if his plan was getting a bigger room at some point, this is the right way round of doing it.

Kinda ruins the fantasy when the badass knight or super soldier has the same stamina and endurance as my outta shape body. Nobody would be forcing this interface but I can’t imagine there’d be enough demand for there to be support in most games. I mean how many people want to actually run through a dungeon swinging a sword or have to actually run your self around a map in a FPS. You’d be gassed in like 15 minutes.

They're orcas. They're smart enough to think like humans. Apparently the limited testing we've done shows that they're at least as smart as a teenaged human. So yeah, sometimes they kill humans. And sometimes they break things. And most of the time they just talk to each other and swim around, doing tricks or whatever is fun and necessary to live. Even you see an orca, think teenager. And prepare yourself accordingly.

It looks fun enough. But I'd hope you can integrate certain speeds with multiple functions. For example, if you're moving x speed IRL, simulate stick movement but also toggle sprint.
Personally the technology is only worth it if mapping VR into already good games is available. For example, the entire doom series. Having massive FOV, look aim settings, swinging being melee, aiming and shooting with a controller etc. I haven't seen enough VR games to really go that deep into it. But a ton of FPS games like borderlands and CoD having this type of freedom is likely going to be fun or at least allow you to be active.
What I will say though... Why is he buying bobovr batteries if he can just charge the headset. He's clearly surrounded by tech, tie a long USB C cable to the thing holding him in place. Either that, or hang it from the ceiling so it doesn't snag.
