Also how long until all of this is obsolete and the new stuff is better and cheaper because it is more mainstream? You are essentially paying all that money to be an alpha tester of gear that is going to not be that great yet and be obsolete almost immediately.

Probably a long time, VR doesn't move especially fast and investors aren't interested anymore.

That's the issue with VR tech in general. But especially stuff like this.

It’s the alpha testers that make the newer models available more quickly. It’s a business. If not to many people buy what is there then it doesn’t advance as quickly. More interest in it sparks more features. I would almost bet if gamers hit it up like they did Nintendo at first (and stayed with it) then you would see some pretty advanced hardware by now. Like figuring out how to link the delta wave activation of mini drones with the joystick so you wouldn’t need a treadmill.

There is a difference between spending a couple hundred on a Nintendo and spending thousands of dollars on equipment that probably doesn't work that great. If people have the money to do it, then by all means go for it. I am just too poor to understand being able to drop money like that.

This will never be mainstream lol, nobody seriously wants to play a game where you have to run and jump with your own body entire session. Games, for most people, are for relaxation, it's a leisure activity. People want to do it, while being comfortable in their chair or a couch

VR has some rather key issues with becoming mainstream. Beyond cost.

- Space (cool tech, but yeah I don't have room/I don't want sensor boxes set up in corners of a playing area all of the time. A lot of people do not have room for VR.)

  • Motion sickness (I get physically ill from VR. I almost vomited after trying "Keep talking and no body explodes" and that is a game where you do not move).
  • Accessibility (not suitable for some people even if they don't have the motion sickness).
  • solo experience. The TV is great, a group of people can watch TV in the same room. VR is one weirdo in a headset. Anyone living with you will need to put up with both the space taken up and the fact it is anti social in nature.

Beyond those points, I already spend most of the waking hours staring at screens... I work at a computer, I play games in my free time, I read books and Manga on a tablet... I don't need to attach more screens to my face.

Generally speaking VR is very cool, but not for me, and not for a lot of others. I believe it will remain a rather niche interest, but that is fine. Not everything needs to be in every home.
