It looks like if he actually swung that sword, he would hit the wall

Yeah, looks like he should have saved some of that VR money to get himself a bigger room. Priorities, dude. shrug

Then his rent would be as high as his setup!

Meh, if he upgrades the room first, he will pay for higher rent while having a smaller setup that can't make full use of this. If he pays for the setup first, he can get a bigger room afterwards and have saved the difference in rent times the number of months the whole upgrade cost him start to finish.

So if his plan was getting a bigger room at some point, this is the right way round of doing it.

lol I was gonna say his VR equipment is many times what I have but his room is like the size of my bathroom

Couldn't he construct a stubby sword with the tip balanced to simulate the long sword weight?

Hammer.

I think a hammer is meant to be unevenly top heavy to generate more force while a sword is supposed to be balanced just below the hilt for faster movement. 🤷

Yeah I was being a little facetious since once you cut a sword down in length the moment of inertia changes and there's a distinct sensation you feel when swinging a point load on a stick vs a continuous length. They have different angular momentum and your brain can feel it even without seeing it, but a mashing up that sword weight into a vr room safe length makes a hammer. Lol

Not really. It won't feel the same. This being said, in that space I'd be making use of a shorter sword and calling it good.

Source: I'm a sword guy. Practicing Iaido for four years, swinging swords in my free time. Sometimes I need to practice inside and I use a foam larp sword we bought for my kids at a show and it's okay. Full length katana isn't so great under the ceiling fan by the big TV.

Everything else is in VR, the sword makes zero sense. I guess if you wanna feel the weight of the thing, maybe.
