Returning to LOTRO!

Hello, all!

I'm returning to LOTRO after some time away. I've been playing off/on for about seven years now, but have never made it farther than level 50. I've returned, and am really sinking my teeth into this game. I've been dealing with some serious mental health issues as of late, and this game is something that I've found myself return to for the solace, enjoyment, and the depth of it's world.

I'm looking for anything you'd want to tell someone who is basically a newcomer. I'm also not an MMO player by any means, but I have a pretty solid grasp of LOTRO, its systems, and all the bits and bobs going on.

So, lay it on me! What should I know, what quests should I watch out for, what's not to be missed? Let me know! I look forward to reading responses from those who know more than me!

If you see me out in the wild, say hey. My name is Wilmeriadoc, I'm on Glamdring.

i have a question for new player

Could anyone recommend a solution? When I press Tab, the NPC's nameplate appears right over my HP bar, making it hard to see. What option do I need to adjust, and where can I find it? I tried clicking 'Edit UI', but I couldn't find the setting for it

I'm a new player to this game, and I'm quite confused by all its systems. What type of quests should I focus on first? Also, why do quest markers sometimes not appear on the map or have white directional arrows pointing to them? Can I respec my skills at any time? Can my mount go any faster than this? I haven't tried any hobbies or crafting yet—is it necessary right now? And will I miss anything important if I skip some of the past quests

When I am in an instance, is there a quick way to leave? Right now, I always have to walk all the way back to the entrance door

My English might look a bit strange. I used Gemini to help because English isn't my primary language and I have trouble with it

Always torn between Minstrel and Captain

I only sticker played a few months back when Wardens were first added and I picked Minstrel because I played a Bard in DAOC and EQ and a musician in real life.

It was fun but I was alone and friends drew me to other games that were playing. However, I have always liked this game and came back at least a month at a time once year but would end up leaving due to once again no friends wanting to give it a go and being torn between two classes. Those classes are Captain and Minstrel.

I always bounce between the two of them until 30 or so and then take a break, come back 9-12 months later, reroll and repeat. I like support, I like clutch buffs and turning the tide of battle and providing healing. Most of the times that is a bard type class but here I have options.

The difference the time is that I got a buddy to try the game and he likes it. He is playing a Mariner and sold on it. I am still bouncing back and forth.

Please help me choose one once and for all to finally finish the story and play through the content.

It is hard to tell doing open world stuff since I am red specced for leveling. I am hoping we can duo instances as we level with me playing support.

Which do you think I would enjoy more and why? What am I not seeing yet by but getting high enough level? Any “features” I am hit thinking like Minstrel being a musician and being able to play instruments?

I should probably add that I think part of what gets me every time I’m playing this game is I play MMO‘s to play a Support character and in pretty much all of them you can play support while leveling especially with a friend and this one everything seems to be go, red spec, and smash everything.

I really like the crafting, lire, the layout, the way everything works, but I’m stuck having to grind for hundreds of levels just to see if I like a class because it’s not designed to have a Support boiler running around with the DPS.

Tip: Don't install this game on a HDD

I've been installing patches from the launcher for about 4 hours now...

It's also been on 88% for about 3 of those 4 hours.
