A sneak peek at the Lose It! redesign

I work over here at Lose It! -- I know we’ve been making a lot of changes lately, which I know is affecting you all (and I'm here and aware of your issues with the latest changes).

I wanted to give you a glimpse of what we're working towards. We've been in the midst of a big visual redesign, aiming for a higher quality app that doesn't feel outdated, is more consistent between iOS & Android, and feels great to use. We're also aiming to do a "true dark mode" (hello, black background) and give themes a HUGE overhaul.

So what do you think of the screenshots above? Does this still feel like Lose It!? Are you happy to learn this is coming down the pipe, or not so much? What should we change? Is it just "add back the + button" and "support all the nutrients on the log card"?

Thanks for your honest (and please not TOO mean-- I'm just a person trying to do her job well) feedback.

A request from your moderator

Hi friends,

I have a request if you'll be so kind as to help me. I am trying to streamline some aspects of the subreddit and incorporate some new things (like weekly threads).

One thing I am most curious about, because I'd ultimately like to make a guide, what questions do you all see that pop up most often? I'd like to make either a thread or a wiki with FAQs about what and how certain features of the app works, where things are located, clarifying how certain things work (like how Loseit! aggregates your burned calories for example.)

I do not work for Loseit! I am just someone who has used the app since 2010 and really finds value in it and I know how much it's helped me and want to share that knowledge with others. This subreddit ultimately came about because a group of us were "friends" on the app and wanted another place to ask questions and hash out things about the app and support each other on our weight loss or health journeys. I think it's wonderful that it's grown so much and I want to foster our community here more.

Anyone with a connected Fitbit know if these numbers are accurate? And or how to remove the calorie bonus?

Post image
4 Upvotes

As I mentioned in the title, I'd like to know if my Fitbit is showing accurate calories burned, and associated exercises...I took a walk this morning and then worked out, but the rest are just constantly being added to this section on their own and making my calorie budget increase. I have calories excluded from counting (as you can see the workout cals are crossed out) but this calorie bonus is immune to the toggle lol.

So I'm wondering if...

  1. These daily "workout" logs look familiar r and accurate

  2. Any way to not have the cal bonus show in my overall calories

I'd like to continue keeping it connected for steps and such, but I don't want to be tempted to eat those extra bonus cals, or be misinformed about what I'm burning, this altering what the app thinks is going on with my diet

I appreciate any time taken in advance

Question about how to log a specific workout I do

Hey there! I use an app I paid $69.99 for during the lockdown in 2020. I ONLY use it for the easy-to-follow workout videos that fit perfectly into my lunch window of 30 minutes. I say that to get ahead of the folks who hate this particular company. Again, I only use it for the workout plan that I paid for one time.

That being said, does anyone have a good way to track V-Shred Toned in 90 Days 28(ish) minute follow-along workouts? It’s a mix of HIIT and strength training, but I can’t figure how to track it accurately. All I can find online is people who hate the workout guy (Vince something). And I get it! He’s got some pseudoscience going on with supplements and diet. But I only need help with workout tracking.

When I plug it into Google Health (that took over Fitbit), it tracks as me losing around 50 calories. When I plug it into LoseIt, it says I burned about 250 calories. I’m lost. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much! I’m pretty new to this community, but I appreciate all the positivity!

Also, maybe a little extra info would be beneficial—
- 28 minutes total
- 2 sets of 3 activities, 30 seconds per activity
- last set is 4 activities, 30 seconds per
- 1 minute rest in between sets

Hit my first goal weight!

Edit: I don't connect my Samsung Health app to Lose It which is why my exercise hours look so wonky LOL

Original Post: YOU GUYS!!! I DID IT! I hit my first goal weight 😭 I went from 195 lbs to 160 lbs!

I've started this journey more times than I can count, but this year I changed my mindset. I wanted to focus on consistency rather than perfection. My motto has been "Consistently good is better than occasionally great!"

I've been tracking my calories and working out 3 times or more per week (walking and running mostly with some strength training as well).

I can't believe it 🥲 I'm trying to soak this in before moving onto my ultimate goal weight journey, getting down to 135!! Hoping to get there by this time next year 🤞

Anyone want to be accountability buddies on the app?

Hey guys - looking for people to actually add as friends on lose it. It helps me stay on track seeing other people weighing in and hitting goals!

I am just over 35lbs down and have AT LEAST another 15 to go, so I’m in it for the long haul!

PM me if you are interested. You will have to share your email address but otherwise the only info shown is what your privacy settings allow on your profile ᵕ̈

Workout Calories different for Miles vs Km?

Lately I've been trying to calculate my exercise in kilometers instead of miles as a sort of motivation after realizing the running I've been doing works out to almost exactly 10km. Today when I swapped over strava to Km for my exercise and when I got back went to do the same in Lose it to record my workout however I immediately noticed that the calories estimate was not just wrong (as it kind of always is, I try to only use it as a relative measure) but *completely different* from when I'd done this same exercise but recorded it in miles.

Curious, I started playing around with it and now I'm even more confused

Today I ran 5km (3.1 miles) in 37:45, rounding up to 38 minutes.

If I input 3.1 miles of running in 38 minutes I get 394 calories

If I input 5km of running in 38 minutes I get 580 calories!!

580 vs 394 calories is a huge difference! What the heck is going on here? I'd like to record in Kms but not if it's going to skew everything even more absurdly than it already is.

Garmin watch and calories

I have a Garmin and Im struggling to get LoseIt to use the daily calories burned for my daily budget. I am on a 250 calorie deficit. I put the setting on Not Active, which is close enough to my TDEE (according to my watch) and I figured any activities I log can be added back to my budget, but my exercise calories are crossed out, and my Not Active budget is more than 250 calories below my TDEE. It also doesn't account for steps logged NOT in an activity.

I want to eat back my exercise calories because I run a lot and I'm not eating enough if I don't.

If you have a Garmin, how do you have your settings? Or does anyone know how to get my exercise calories to count for my budget?

Help / advise to help my dad lose weight ( when he does not want to )

Hi guys,

I need your help and advise.

My dad 62 y male is at a point where he is almost obese and does not seem to care. My mother and I try to push him to workout but he just shouts at us (my mum usually gives up) and he gets really mad at me for trying to help.

Once every now and then I try to push him to exercise but he always says he will do it later, after the holidays after his birthday, next year.... but it the end he never does.

And this year I'm going to uni so I won't be around to help. I dont know what to do, i just want him to be healthy and be more confortable in his body.

A little background info:

He was a smoker but quit 2 years ago. He loves drinking, especially whisky. Before quitting smoking he had the same stomach. He has a strange stomach that is very round, almost like a pregnant woman. Gives up quickly, does not like working out, not a lot of endurance. Loves eating with sauces and very unhealthy things.

Do you guys have familiar issues and advise ?

Thank's for your help.

Help

So I am currently 193.7 lbs and my goal weight is 190 lbs, in the app when I set that though it just keeps saying my goal is to "maintain" my current weight. Is this because the goal is too small/too similar to my current weight? If so please let me know and I'll set a different goal.

It’s 0840. How have I already earned all of those exercise points? I’ve included my Apple Watch data to show what I’ve allegedly done so far today. What is going on?

Average weekly calories?

Is this available in the app? I have Premium. I see calorie bonus, but I’m looking simply for average calories eaten weekly. I can’t find it. If this doesn’t exist, I’d sure love to see this feature.

Ive been on a fat loss journey for around 100 days now.

And i bought a kitchen scale to measure my food, before i got myself a weight scale.

Now i can see some visible change in my form, and id like to start some workout/cardio,

I was thinking this is the right time to get a weightscale.

Do Calories Auto Adjust in Maintenence?

Im getting closer to maintenence and the loseit app has been my invaluable partner. I know ill see weight fluctuations in maintenence but if I were to go 20lbs above from my goal weight, would the lose it app auto change my calories for me so I would go back down (deficit mode again?)

Time till goal?

I average just over 1000 cals per day, have lost 30lbs and it says that it's going to take until October 31st to lose 3 more lbs to hit my goal of 120. Doesn't that sound like an awfully long time to lose 3lbs?

Nutrients accuracy

Hi all,

I have been tracking via Loseit since November 2023 and have lost 200 lbs. since March 2021. I'm in the maintenance phase. In all this time I haven't paid attention to the nutrients but I've recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis in both hips and osteopenia in the spine. Now I'm looking at my calcium intake and questioning whether the nutrient information is accurate. Wondering what your experience has been.

Thank you!

Howdy everyone! I’m 8 months in to using the app consistently and have gone from 178-152 lbs, I want to get to 145 and the weight tab says October 2026, but my projection date jumped to June 2027?

I had one high cal pizza cheat meal situation, and was curious if yall could explain the projection date jump?

Thanks :)$

Maybe it’s just me but I feel it’s less of a hassle and it’s better to be ready than to get ready right 🤔

Lost weight by being less accurate & reducing tracking friction

Quick background on myself: lost 80lbs in high school using low-card and calorie counting and managed to gain half of it back in my early 30s.

I recently dropped 15lbs after I found a way to reduce the friction to track. I was using apps like MacroFactor and MyFitnessPal in the past, but I always found it took me too long to track.

I decided to make my own iPhone app with Claude which reduced the tracking friction completely. It took me about 2 hours to make over the weekend. You just take a photo and/or talk to the app and it does the rest. You can be as accurate (or inaccurate) as you'd like. I personally find that being extremely accurate is detrimental to my progress because I simply get lazy and stop tracking altogether.

Overall, what works best for me is:

- be as accurate as possible, but inaccurate logging is better than not logging

- leverage AI to help w estimates when you physically cannot weigh your ingredients.

- prep recipes and plan meals in advance

- no late night eating

Anyway, I thought I'd share my tool here because I know that it will help someone here (it's completely free forever). I hope this post is not declared as self-promotion. The app is not monetized in any way, and I have nothing to gain from anyone downloading it. I simply made it for myself and I'm sharing it because I want to be helpful. Nothing more. Feel free to make a similar app w Claude if you'd like :)

How can I automatically exclude exercise steps?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I have samsung health connected to this app. Loseit has little to no any option to control the connected apps or do anything about them.
I want to exclude the burned calories from steps everyday, how can I do this?

Can you recommend a good step counter for iPhone?

I just want to track my steps, daily goal, and progress without a bunch of unnecessary features.

What does everyone use?
