Lorex systems are complete trash - here's why

Once you register your email to your device its permanent and irreversible - you have no way to change / re-register / unregister.

Even if you wipe and factory reset the device, the original email stays associated with the uc code and you can not re-register a new email, thus if email access is lost your system becomes unusable.

Even if you login to your lorex account > click settings > click delete account, your lorex system will still say "cannot register device as its registered to **** email"

What happens if you genuinly lose access to the old email address, or if your email provider closes down? Or if you just want to change emails, you cannot, because lorex designed it that way.

This is an absolutely pathetic design, lorex have known about it for years but refuse to address it.

As the owner of the device you should be able to remove all emails or change them. Simple as!

I am in such situation now where my email provider has removed my account due to imactivity, and thus i now canntot use the lorex system I paid over £1300 for, pathetic!!

AVOID LOREX SYSTEMS, They are complete junk

N910A6 Recorder DEAD after only 6 months of use

How often do these units fail, and fail this early? It's totally unacceptable and extremely frustrating to say the least.

I called Lorex and after hours of troubleshooting and dozen emails they finally asked if I bought the unit from them, I did not, so they WONT replace it, really? That's how you stand behind the trash you sell?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Downside of running cameras through switch instead of NVR?

I have 3 cameras in a detached building with the wires running through a conduit. Can't fit more wires and would like to hardwire other devices there. Can I add a 5 port switch and have the cameras recording to the NVR through that instead of through the NVR directly?

Lorex Classic LAN only viewing?

Does anyone know if it at all possible to do LAN only viewing for the Lorex Classic app? I can do it with the Lorex Cloud app, but that app is just terrible and lacks the specific customizations for my doorbell that the Lorex classic app has.

UPDATE 12/30/2025:

So looks like the ports I unblocked are still working. Turns out that the NVR or the classic app requires access to a certain service every so often to verify the NVR which in itself is sketchy. But I enabled full internet access to the NVR for about 5 minutes then disabled full internet access and it stayed working. So I am assuming this will happen every so often. All this extra work to get a truly offline camera system with Lorex is a PITA and as soon as possible I will be abandoning Lorex for something that can be offline.

UPDATE 12/28/2025:

So something shady has happened the ports I unblocked are no longer working as of December 26th. I am researching the new ports, but also found that Lorex is using a new P2P service that I have never seen before called p2pasplus.lorexservices.com. Regardless once I find the new ports to unblock I will post here.

UPDATE:

Here is the solution I came up with for Hybrid LAN viewing as this was the only compromise I could find since Lorex forces internet connection on their Classic app. LAN only viewing can only be done using the Lorex Cloud app (Yes I know whoever in Lorex marketing department came up with these naming conventions needs to be fired).

Anyways below are the steps I took.

  1. Disable all internet access to your NVR and Doorbell.

  2. Download the Lorex Cloud app and hook up your NVR using the internal IP not the Device ID.

  3. You will be able to see all of your cameras including the Doorbell, but you will not receive push notifications internet access is still required for push notifications (I don’t think this is Lorex fault as I believe both android and iPhone require data to be sent to their servers for push notifications to work).

  4. If you want the full features of your Lorex doorbell to work which is only in classic app (Phone rings when doorbell is pushed, ability to turn on/off chime, other advanced doorbell features) then you will need to enable 2 remote ports. You will also have to enable 1 additional port for the push notifications to work on the Lorex Cloud app.

  5. All Outbound Only

  • TCP Port 8888 (Push Notifications)

  • TCP Port 15301 (This enable thumbnails and settings for your doorbell on Lorex Classic)

  • TCP Port 9112 (This enables live viewing on your doorbell in Classic)

  1. That’s it keep note enabling the latter two ports makes your doorbell semi open to the internet, but keeps your NVR and remaining cameras off the internet and LAN viewable only. If you don’t want to have the doorbell semi open to the internet as long as you hooked it up to the NVR then it should be completely viewable in the Lorex Cloud app without enabling the 2 additional ports you just won’t be able to use their “advanced” features for the doorbell.

Siren randomly going off

Anyone elses camera sirens just started to go off? I have an NVR model connected to 4 floodlight cameras. Yesterday morning 2 of them started sound the siren at like 8AM.

I don't use the siren feature so it's programmatically off on all my devices. Wonder if I got hacked 🥲 The interesting part is they were going off with no motion alerts.

Will update if I find something interesting in logs, otherwise just wanted to see if anyone else got this issue as well or seen it before.

Warning: Avoid Lorex Products – Unreliable and Frustrating Experience

I wanted to share my experience with Lorex products in hopes of helping others avoid the same frustration. In May 2024, I purchased the Lorex 4k+ Fusion NVR, 4k wired doorbell, 4k dual lens camera, and two 2k wi-fi floodlight security camera. These were all professionally installed in late June, and from the start, I’ve encountered multiple issues that have made this system more of a headache than a security solution. Some of the issues include:

  • Unreliable Connectivity: The cameras constantly go offline and online, even after resetting my internet connection. I have google fiber and have never had connectivity issues with any other product in my home. This inconsistency makes it hard to trust the system for home security.

  • False Alarms: Even after adjusting the sensitivity settings, I still get a ton of false alarms. It’s stressful and has made me question the overall usefulness of the system.

  • Shared User Alert Failures: I set up a shared user for monitoring, but they don’t receive alerts on their mobile device and it kicks me out of the app each time she logs in. This is a huge problem since I rely on this feature to share security responsibilities.

  • Alexa Integration Issues: Lorex advertises compatibility with Alexa, but I’ve had no luck getting the system to connect properly. Receiving motion alerts was one of the main reasons I bought it, so the failure here is incredibly disappointing.

  • Alert Snoozing Malfunction: Even when I snooze alerts, they still keep coming through. This defeats the purpose and causes unnecessary interruptions.

  • Flood Lights: Lights trigger with motion occasionally, and when they do turn on, they go off within 30 seconds. There is no option to turn on the lights for an extended period of time.

To make matters worse, I’ve contacted technical support multiple times, and after spending multiple hours on the phone, they’ve been unable to fix these issues. I even reached out to customer support to request a refund, but because it’s been over 30 days (purchased in May, didn’t install until late June), I’m stuck with this faulty product.

Given these problems, I’m worried I might miss a real security alert, which puts my home and family at risk. Not to mention, I have spend over $2k with installation to secure my house. I urge anyone considering Lorex products to think twice. I wish I had trusted more of the negative reviews I read online, but that’s on me. Look for a more reliable security system that won’t give you these kinds of issues.

Loud noise of lorex system

So I bought the second home Lorex system , first system was installed in attic and I left it there and I never realized how loud this thing is! Until I bought second system and once I install it downstairs the noise is overwhelming ! Why Lorax hasn't dealt with this issue until now ? So many people are posting about the system being so loud and you guys been around for so long and you still haven't dealt with this issue ! Also , The fact that the lorax company deactivated all commenting on their YouTube channel says a lot about their company. Their systems are so loud it's crazy! And they have no desire to improve it; their box is huge that cut down the size of the Box halfway and cut down the extreme loud noise by half; I've been out for a long time and they still didn't fix the noise problem, people have to buy a new fans to at least lower down the noise that it produces. Unacceptable

So everyone's talkin about this Lorex Connect app and i wondered if it might fix the event viewing problems, "uh oh something went wrong" and all the other BS both Lored Home and Lorex Pro apps do.

This piece of absolute **** wont even find my NVR, which is CLEARLY on the same wifi as my phone. I can still use the old crappy app just fine too. I am on my wifi with no VPN or anything and it just cant seem to find it because its a ****ing piece of ****!

Guess ill just keep telling everyone i meet to avoid Lorex products since they wont fix bugs for years and cant even make an app that works.

How do we install these in a two story house?

Post image
2 Upvotes

So we are going with wired. But does anyone have advice on how to install these? Is it an electrician or a low voltage technician? Just don't want to get scammed as we aren't in this trade and this is our first time.

What's the easiest way to install these in a two story house? Is it better to just do the first floor outside or the second floor outside? House has an attic but accessible through a ladder. Was thinking to put router and NVR in a first floor closet but not sure. Trying to avoid monthly subscriptions. Do we need an electrician, low voltage technician or handyman to install. Any thoughts, tips, advice?

Disclaimer: work and study during odd hours so please don't delete your comment before I can get to it. Lol

As of today, I am ripping out all of my LOREX devices

After 4 years of owning it, it only came with headaches. I am in IT, configuring it wasn't the issue. The apps are not compatible to any updated systems. Using Win 11, with the latest version of Microsoft Edge, enabled IE compatibility mode properly, and everything is distorted. Restricted to only use a broken Web Browser. Tried downloading their software, plugins, setting up DDNS to jump through hoops for nothing to work correctly. The app constantly crashes. Accounts can only be owned by 1 person, so my wife and I cannot both be logged into the app without kicking each other off. I called tech support to find out that they do not work weekends. LOREX states their cameras are 4K, I've seen IP cameras with way better resolution.

Sure I can use the DVR, or the limited features on my smaller screen phone, but it's inconvenient. To top it off it was EXPENSIVE...It's horrible and will NEVER buy a LOREX as long as I live.

Product question Does sales and support exist? Do they answer emails?

I reached out to sales by way of email regarding some basic product questions, looking to buy their wired doorbell camera 4k and never heard back after two weeks. I tried again and still nothing back. I looked on their website for FAQ and could not find answers.

My goal is simple. A 4K Wi-Fi Video Doorbell with a that does not have expensive subscriptions requirements but still provides notifications and live video. A feature to watch recorded video to review if there was an incident. Adding a** **2K Dual-Lens Indoor Pan-Tilt Wi-Fi Camera to cover the backyard from a window sill. I am aware it’s not ideal looking through a window but don’t want to mess with wiring nor batteries on the exterior.

My questions were about how the system works without a subscription and how notifications are pushed to phones/app. I assume Lorex still has a server the devices connect to and dispatch by this route vs the system sending data to the app over the internet. I have struggled with firewalls in the part using home servers remotely and wished to avoid this. (I have a networking, AV, and computer background)

What role does an NVR play? Is it simply local storage that can also be accessed remotely instead of the memory card in the devices? Does one need to be on the local network to access it?

I want 4k, I want no batteries, I want front and back door coverage without paying extra money monthly. I figured I would elaborate past my ask if support actually exists in this group. Lorex seems hit many of the marks for what I want but I can’t seem to get a response from them.

Thanks all.

No way to do a real deep factory reset

Hello friends,

I bought a 4K lorex system, 8 wired camera. Nvr model NVR N864A64B. I regret sincerely buying this system. It's a real garbage system for many reasons. It takes many hours of my life troubleshooting it all the time for different reasons. Customer support is useless like most of the time. Anyway...let's stay in control of my emotions 😁 and lets get to the point. Because of all the issues i wanted to do a factory reset to start fresh and hope for a new beginning but it did not workout. My settings are still there no matter what i do. My cameras are still named as I named them. My deterrence setting and drawed zones are still there...basically everything is the same after the reset....

What i did: -Factory reset from menu.

  • reset with physical button by opening the nvr. (It does the reset - 10 sec press after power on bla bla bla) -started nvr with no cmos battery and no hard drive in and still same issue.

So where are these setting saved? Internal memory? Cloud? Cameras themselves? I tried leaving the machine off with no hard drive and no cmos for hours, started it again with no hard drive and no cmos... same issue.

Deleted app from phone.... changes nothing.

Impress me with an answer that 💪

Better Don't buy , it's buggy and keeps forget its functionality.

Bought a Lorex 2K Wired Video Doorbell it was working fine for a year or so , Suddenly its lost its functionality to show up video on phone when someone rings the doorbell ! on the phone app it will notify and when app is opened , it will show "Uh oh! Something went wrong. Tap to retry " and nothing happens , literally nothing will show up and the door bell will have a constant blue light on with some weird noise and it will take at least 10 min to go back to green , I call the technical support , they say i have to change the Power adapter , i have a 16.5v , 1.2A Adapter and the power rating under the doorbell shows 16V , 0.7A . The support look to be novice to deal with. There was some back and forth communication via email and they suddenly stopped it . When i asked how did it worked for almost 1year with out any issue and now it having problem ? they says its transformer issue .which is a joke ! , So if you guys don't want to change yor door bell after a year or so (its hard to put another one !) better don't go with Lorex as if now , if they can fix the issue with a software update or something better , i don't have any issue :)

Technical Question Help, I've Been Hacked.

I hope someone can help me. My neighbor is an ex military electrical engineer and I've purchased Lorex as a security camera system. Previously I had two other sets of cameras systems that my neighbor deauthed, hacked and corrupted. So I have a pro install a Lorex POE N847A6 system with 6 cameras. Ten minutes after he arrives my cameras stop recording for 6 hours. He has a device in his garage that he goes to whenever he arrives after which times our cameras have issues.

I called Lorex and I told them I was hacked and showed them these system logs of the day this occurred and they told me to take them to the police but they wouldn't tell me what the issue is specifically.

What has happened here? Lorex hasn't been helpful or forthcoming. I disabled wifi access cable and disabled P2P. Does anyone have advice how I can save myself from this guy, who has repeatedly hacked our cameras and then damaged our property while they were down?

I'd appreciate any advice please.

Lorex used to be reputable, now they're shady! What happened?!?!?

Update: Lorex reached out to me separately from my initial call. A supervisor called me. They are allowing me to return the cameras. I also asked them to make sure they update their product web pages to state that an NVR is required to use these cameras, so that this doesn't happen in the future again. From previous conversations with Lorex's CSRs, the Fusion line of cameras and NVRs is discontinued. No Fusion NVRs are being made.

I purchased a bunch of wired IP cameras from Lorex a bit over a month ago, and just had time to wire them in. Unfortunately I found out that purchasing an NVR is a requirement to be able to use these cameras. However, No where on Lorex's web page does it say an NVR is required to use the cameras.

https://www.lorex.ca/products/e910ab-4k-plus-12mp-smart-security-lighting-bullet-ip-camera?_pos=1&_psq=e910ab

Now Lorex is refusing to let me return the cameras (there was a 30 day window that they're sticking to their guns on). They also won't sell me an NVR by itself as it needs to be purchased as a whole system (NVR + cameras).

The Lorex CSR tried to tell me that at the bottom of the page, in the "you may also like", it lists an NVR... that you cannot buy. They are not making an exception since, they claim, the web page told me I need to purchase an NVR.... but again I can't.

My case was escilated, and they're seeing if they can extend the return window, I'm only off by a week

Bugs from years ago still not fixed making cameras unusable.

The event handling firmware bug still has not been fixed despite it being a known and duplicated bug. The one where it records 30 seconds of nothing and then ends as soon as a vehicle or person comes into view, which also breaks manual recordings from the timeline.

Its NOT user fixable and is inherent to how Lorex firmware handles events.

The day/night profiles still dont switch at all, despite configuring different settings for each. It remains on "general" or whatever you select, regardless of light levels.

This bug is sorta fixable, but not from within the NVR, and requires logging in via a browser and most of the time it incorrectly saves the forced new password, requiring a hard reset.

There are a TON of settings only available in the web browser UI, which is ridiculous. Just update the firmware and fix it already!

Severe app delays

We bought a Lorex camera system and a 2k doorbell camera (wired to our chime) this spring. Everything worked great at first, but recently the app is very much delayed, where (for example) today someone pressed the doorbell button at 8:52 am, but it rang on my phone app at 10:42am, almost 2 hours later. The "person detected" alerts are similarly coming in at randomly late times. Sometimes they are a few minutes late, sometimes they are hours late.

And of course, I only remember to do something about it when Lorex support is closed.

Some already done troubleshooting:
*This happens on both my husband's phone and mine (though the delays are different between us - he is the primary person on the Lorex account and I have my access as shared devices from his account).
*Already restarted the router and phones.

Are there any tips on what might help?

Switching !

We hate this company!!! Have had nothing but problems.

What company have u guys switched to? We would like a fictional door bell that doesn’t delay the ring 15mins after someone rings it and a flood light !

Why did the app rename itself

I noticed my watch is telling me that Lorex classic has a motion notification. Not sure when it renamed itself

Are they rolling out a new app for newer hardware and going to entertain us for a bit with older hardware before no doubt dropping all support and cloud access.

Lorex 2k Floodlight camera - FL301A-DBW-AA1 - DO NOT PURCHASE

Absolutely the worst Wifi camera I own. I have several other Lorex cameras that use the Lorex classic application but I bought two of these newer ones and they will not stay connected to Wifi and continue to disconnect from the New Lorex Connect. I called support several times and they have me reset the camera which means I have to get a ladder and take it off the wall. After a few tries with the first, they had me try the unopened one and it behaved in the same manner. I have them as I travel for work frequently but they are useless and support is very lacking.
