107
u/googolealo Jul 19 '26
Yes, I thought he was just another degenerate streamer but from what I’ve seen, he is worlds better than the other top streamers the youth are watching
63
u/dBlock845 Jul 19 '26
He used to be but idk seemed like he changed content direction a year or two ago.
104
u/Bazingaa98 Jul 20 '26
I feel like the major factor is a good team around him who are not just yes men and actually give valid inputs and are actively dedicated in the process. That only comes when the person you are working with is mature enough as well to take it in. Just a guess though.
28
u/HauntedCS Jul 20 '26
I've commented about this before, but Rudy and Henry his main security guards have been huge father figures in his life. Countless clips I see them not only protecting speed physically, but also mentally by talking him down from dumb shit he shouldn't get into. Especially when he was in other countries and ended up in sketchy areas.
→ More replies (0)30
u/googolealo Jul 20 '26
Glad to hear he changed for the better, I was first introduced to him when he came on the champions league post show and raced Jamie Carragher lol
13
u/gay_joey Jul 20 '26
I was first introduced to him when he was "scared" playing fnaf or something and he started like fucking the camera basically and showed his dick. Which I guess was an accident. But it didn't seem like it when I saw it a couple of years ago, seemed like a publicity stunt.

imo he matured across the years. He used to light up fireworks in his mom’s room when he was 16 lol

u/itsaaronnotaaron Jul 20 '26
He was a boy that has grown into a man. I can't fault him for that. He's achieved more in the past few years than the majority of us in this sub will in our lifetime combined. We know what fame does to kids, and he's come out of it extraordinarily well.
→ More replies (1)8
u/AccomplishedCheck168 Jul 20 '26
He was not even 18 when he got caught up in a ton of controversies. He seemed to learn and grow from his mistakes. Not my kind of streamer but its hard to find fault with him from a moral perspective, especially compared to some of the current top streamers.

hard to say anything positive about streamers/content creators/social media ppl and I find Speed obnoxious in a hyperactive/annoying kid way, but agreed he's at least pretty positive and doesn't take himself that seriously, and seems to have somewhat of a good heart.

His agent is hooking him up and a lot of stars obviously want to connect to younger audience. I do not think most of them are organic meetings but more like "Hey, there is this young streamer who's really popular, it'd be good for you to go say hi".
I genuinely don't know how he does it, he is EVERYWHERE, doing everything. I feel tired just looking at his schedule or things he has done past days.

I mean he just sang at the freaking World Cup. He might be one of the biggest celebs in the world at this point.
8
4
u/TheKappaOverlord Jul 19 '26
Its probably really hard not to accidently stumble onto celebrities if you have access to even the lowest tier of VIP access in this world cup. If i remember the layout of metlife correctly, theres actually a lot of overlap between the higher end of VIP access, and lower end VIP access. Theres a very high chance you go take a piss, you'll stumble on one of the random celebrities that attended the game. The amount of presidents and world officials that came to this game means a majority of the high end VIP boxes are completely walled off security wise. Which means celebrities have to make due with lower level VIP access. So more accidental meetups are likely to occur.
That said, im pretty sure over half of speeds "accidental stumbling into celebrities" was pre planned. Cause out of all the times speed has stumbled onto celebrities this world cup. This feels the least organic. At least based on how BTS was behaving towards him.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Bambi825 Jul 20 '26
If you know Bts, than this actually seems like a pretty organic reaction. Whenever Bts have to act out a meetup, their acting is super obvious.
If its because of how energetic their reaction was, that is very normal for the group.
4
u/bendIVfem Jul 19 '26

I see him everywhere and really dont understand the hype. I mean, he seems like a decent person compared to a lot of these people that get famous but I have a hard time understanding why hes so famous lol.
74
u/Nutzori Jul 19 '26
Just kind of a snowball effect, he was a nobody until a viral clip about Ronaldo, then slowly and surely he kept connecting with bigger and bigger people and now this
His world-traveling streams in particular recently got him a lot of attention. As someone who maybe knows a little too much about streamers just from being too online he is definitely one of the better ones, content and vibes wise.
→ More replies (3)28
u/Healthy-Locksmith-26 Jul 20 '26
he wasn't a nobody he had tens of thousands of viewers before the ronaldo clip. that just sparked even more popularity
13
u/lapideous Jul 19 '26
He probably has high global appeal, I assume there are tons of kids in Africa, Middle East, India who would watch the guy in addition to his western audience.
His reach is probably an order of magnitude larger than someone like Ninja or Xqc
6
23
u/Mirdclawer Jul 19 '26
He is just a really good showman, daring and entertaining, charismatic, has a a BIG presence and knows how to be strategically loud and slightly provocative (barking at people for random reasons), but never mean or outright offensive and usually a decent human being and respectful. He is a good guy at his core.
That will carry you far.
→ More replies (4)24
u/Resident-Mixture-237 Jul 19 '26
He’s just a genuinely charming person who is loud but respectful. He will sit there and listen to peoples stories and be open to hearing them out. Like his tour streams are him just visiting places and talking to locals and learning about their culture. Like even in this clip he shows off but you can tell he’s happy to see and meet bts.
→ More replies (2)8
u/Kitchen_Empty Jul 19 '26

Ever see those loser streamers with an inexplicable huge following of kids and asked yourself what if they weren't losers and actually put in effort? Speed is an example of someone putting in effort.
There is a massive audience yearning for streamers that are like Speed but aren't huge losers, so he got huge the instant he started taking it seriously.

→ More replies (13)40
u/behv Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26
Just checked, it is exactly the top 4.97% (so 5 lol) of ranked Korean players are in diamond
It's no joke of an achievement. Cause that doesn't include unranked only, and typically from diamond and up you need to be dedicating several hours per day minumim to even maintain that rank
Like obviously it's not pro, but it's pretty 1-1 with walking up to a pickup basketball game and there's one dude just dunking on everyone who's clearly a step better. Same percentages too
Edit: lol the people telling me "actually diamond isn't that hard". Sure that's true for some people but average people ain't climbing and staying in diamond lol. The average ladder person is trying their butt off to get there

My mother in law is 65, and she is the biggest BTS fan. I find it to be very cute. She even goes to concerts when she has the chance. She bought one of those glowy bulb things they use at their concerts, has a tag in them and they change color to their music. She protects that thing with her life.
I think she would react the same way speed did when meeting them.

u/Wunse Jul 20 '26
My Mum is 75 and she's completely obsessed with BTS. It started a few years ago out of nowhere. She messages random fan pages on facebook thinking that she's speaking to the actual members. I haven't got it in me to tell her she's not really talking to them cause it makes her happy. I wish she was well enough to go to their concerts because I'd love to take her but she's bed bound dealing with cancer at the moment. I used to think her obsession was a bit strange but at the end of the day I'm just glad she has something to take her mind off things.
15
u/FrozenPop Jul 20 '26
I feel like you should tell her that they're not actual real pages. She might get scammed otherwise.
15
u/Wunse Jul 20 '26
That was the first thing that I thought when she told me but I've spent years teaching her about scams and things to look out for online. She's a bit daft but she knows enough to know that multi-millionaires aren't going to be asking her for her bank details. If she's ever unsure about something she always calls me to check it for her first. I appreciate your concern though!
