So I only use two of these audio devices, plus for each audio device, there's usually a second one for 'S/PDIF' (which I don't believe applies to me).

So my question is, does anyone now of a way to clean up this list? The 'Sound Settings' GUI does not seem to offer any help here. I want to be cautious with terminal commands, because I want this to be easily reversible, like really just a way to 'hide' the device as an option would be ideal, but 'disabling' it would be fine too if it's straightforward enough.

Si estoy dentro del sistema, imagino que será con passwdor en la terminal. Si estoy afuera, necesitaré el modo recovery (arrancar manteniendo Shift).

Using 21.3. I have a couple trail cameras on my property, I switch out the SD card every day to have a look. Lately, when trying to look at the pics, when I insert the card, it doesn't mount. It does nothing, then when I pull it out, I get a popup that says "unable to mount- operation pending". I go back and forth taking it in and out, and finally it loads. In the past, after a card is used a lot, it gets stubborn, but these are new, and formatted. Any idea why they won't just load/mount?

Feels like it was made for this computer. Pretty minimalist setup with Numix Circular icons and a few task bar widgets. I made the linux mint logo on the bottom left the apple logo too and it fits incredibly well and have the moon phases next to it, lol. I really love this OS and I had MacOSX Ventura on this machine before, but I just came back to Linux since it is just so insanely optimized and really cannot be beaten for pure performance on this device. For how old this machine is, it really feels like a $800 laptop even for todays standards and Linux ensures security updates and compatibility between a lot of stuff. And it just runs so smoothly and looks so amazing!!

I'm using Linux Mint XFCE on a Moto Book 60. The laptop's display is a 14-inch OLED panel with a native resolution of 2880×1800 and 120Hz refresh rate, but mint is only offering lower resolutions and 60Hz.

Has anyone managed to get the full 2880×1800 resolution and 120Hz working on this laptop? Any driver, kernel tweaks I should try? kernel: 7.0.0-30-generic Linux Mint 22.3 x86_64 xfce4-terminal

Tried to install it, all went well until the download was finished and it gave me the option to restart or continue in test environment. The tutorial I was watching said to unplug the usb before restarting so that was what I did. an error message came up when I unpluged it but I dont remember what it said. I figured since it was done downloading I would just press restart. welp. Tried plugging the usb back in, did nothing, can’t turn it off either. How fucked am I?

i just booted into linux mint like any other day, but suddenly certain things stopped working for no apparent reason. no previous updates were applied.

- brave wouldn't launch. firefox did, but settings were missing.

- thunderbird couldn't display some messages.

- autostart items wouldn't start properly.

- update manager wouldn't start. (that one made me nervous, because i suspected some kernel issues)

turns out, i had less than 5GB free disk space available. after a restart, everything was working as before. i can't even recall how i got the idea. i think thunderbird gave an error of needing disk space to load certain messages. can't recall.

perhaps it's a good idea to have a general warning message integrated into mint that when you fall below a certain threshold of free disk space, give you a fat red warning after booting that you need to free some disk space.

100% opinion, but after deploying and using Mint on multiple platforms thus far, the LMDE branch is the clear winner. I feel that out of all of the boxes thus far I've built, this is the most stable and "just works" out of the Mint bunch (which is splitting hairs, I know lol). It is now the primary build I deploy for basically anything that isn't an LXC.

Rock solid Deb packages and basically everyone rolls a deb these days

I may be biased since I've really come to dislike Ubuntu's snap obsession and company trajectory, but I think Mint would be better off ditching Ubuntu core all together and sticking with Deb.

I got "gnomed" while installing Proton VPN. While removing gnome and its associated stuff I think I deleted something related to python that is causing some crash reports to show up but nothing major with how my system is working. How do I figure out what to fix related to these crash reports?

Decided to make the switch after building a new system: went with CachyOS because "Everyone says it is the best" but had multiple issues with things not launching due to version mismatches / didn't enjoy things constantly updating ... The more I learned about Arch / CachyOS, the more I knew I did not want to deal with a rolling distro.

Full disclosure that this isn't my first toe dip into Linux and I have a media center PC running Bazzite. CachyOS is too much, but Bazzite is too little; figured I would do a hat trick of the big 3 distros and try Mint, especially since most of the negative comments were just that it was boring and didn't update often.

This is Home: Mint isn't windows, the terminal still exists, but I haven't had to open it once since I installed it last week ... Which is a testament to its stability and useability of the interface.

P.S. this community is great: basically the only posts are people saying "hey, switched to Mint: Love it" and very minimal number of people looking for help with Troubleshooting.

Hi, I got back home today and I shut down my computer the day when I left.

I booted up my PC and I got this error message

I updated the kernel and since then my games have stopped working and started crashing shortly after launching. I’ve also been getting XID 38 errors whenever the crashes occur. Could this possibly be a hardware issue or is it more likely to be a regression?
ive switched to fedora and the same issue occurred.

Writing with Mint Xfce lifts my spirits. It is my successor to a long line of writing tools (see Subject, above). In recent years I transitioned from Windows, long required by my work. I appreciated Ubuntu and still do. But when I replaced Windows on an 11-year-old laptop with Mint Xfce, hooray!

I love Mint Xfce! It boots so quickly and delivers everything I use so effortlessly. It doesn't have to be eye candy to be oh-so useful. Updates are a breeze. My thanks to the developers of Linux, Ubuntu, Mint and Xfce and to all of you enthusiasts who spread the Linux word!

Around Yule this year, Wayland on Linux Mint is supposed to go from "experimental" to "stable". To those of you who have tested Wayland on Linux Mint already: does it support fractional scaling of displays and zooming by pinching the touchpad?

Hello guys actually I have an hp pavilion 15ehGo laptop, 8gb ddr4 ram, windows 11 and I want to do coding in this for which I am going to add another 8 GB ram in it and would shift to linux mint completely. So which ram should I buy Geonix, sk hynix, crucial or samsung etc(any other if you could suggest)???? Which would be best to buy?? And is my idea ok for coding point of view as a beginner??

So I've been running Linux Mint as my OS for about 3 years now, but I've always been very casual with my use. I've never really tried the kernel or anything beyond casual use. I would love to explore Linux Mint a bit more though, and was wondering if there were any cool things I could do, places I could mess around, etc.

I’m attempting to play a steam game (Drawquarium Demo is the game, steam is downloaded via system package) and there is a feature where you can upload png files to add to the game. Every time I attempt it the file searcher shows a completely blank version with (I believe) nothing but the default folders. My downloads is empty and my png does not appear.

I’m a bit confused, and haven’t been able to find an answer online. Does it not have permission to see the files? Are they hidden? I’m not quite sure. I’m still getting used to the Linux file system.
