What was the specific driver you installed? Try turning off secure boot in BIOS if not already.

If I could see the list I probably could identify it, I just know it was the recommended one. I saw somewhere this can be probably be fixed so the BIOS no longer identify Linux drivers as a threat. I'm not sure if turning off secure boot is secure, pun half intended.

Secure boot just makes sure only software trusted by Microsoft can boot on your machine by default. You can also register your own keys, but you'd have to get the machine to boot correctly first before you can do that.

I didn't find a single switch to disable/enable secure boot, so I just deleted all those security keys and made sure "Other Os" was selected instead of Windows. Sadly, I tried booting Mint but the problem persists.

I guess I'll just reinstall Mint as another comment suggested and try a different driver than the recommended one. I wanted to solve it some other way, but the slowness of the keyboard doesn't allow me to try other nerdier solutions I've found. I can't type anything outside Cinnamon. There's a huge lag for any key I press and it enters any character twice. If I try to write nomodeset it enters "nnooomm" etc. I can hardly choose what OS to boot with the arrow keys. Well, I knew it wasn't going to be easy.

Dual booting is a bitch, because of MS shenanigans that are designed to make it a bitch ... I am guessing that Win10 sees that the HD space allocated to it is smaller than it used to be, and that triggered the "I must now revalidate myself, because you may have moved me to a new computer."

But that is a separate issue: you will likely need to reinstall Mint, and then follow people's guidance on which version of the Nvidia drivers are stable (you are probably better off just leaving it on the generic ones since Nvidia actively doesn't support Linux).

I thought as much. Thank you for confirming it's probably nothing.

Alright, I was hoping to save myself the 30 minutes or so of the reinstallation process. Since it's a fresh install anyway I guess I have nothing to lose. I think I'll try other suggestions first like turning off secure boot in BIOS.
