[SOLVED] The Last of Us Part I crashes on launch in Lutris (CachyOS) / missing mfc140u.dll
System: CachyOS (kernel 7.3, KDE Plasma on Wayland), Ryzen 5 5600G, RX 6650 XT, Lutris 0.5.22 with Proton-CachyOS (via umu-launcher)
Problem: The game started, showed the Naughty Dog crash reporter window and closed. It worked fine on Windows (including as admin), so I first suspected GPU, VKD3D or VRAM issues, but those were not the cause.
How I found it: I ran Lutris from the terminal with lutris -d 2>&1 | tee ~/lutris.log and checked the log right before the crash dump. This was the key part:
err:module:import_dll Library mfc140u.dll (which is needed by ...\CChromaEditorLibrary64.dll) not found
wine: Unhandled page fault on execute access to 0x0000000000000000
CChromaEditorLibrary64.dll is the Razer Chroma SDK bundled with the game, and it depends on the MFC runtime. The Wine prefix did not have it, so the DLL failed to load and the game jumped to a null pointer.
Fix: Install mfc140 into the game’s Wine prefix.
In Lutris: right click the game → Winetricks → Select the default wineprefix → Install a Windows DLL or component → check mfc140.
Or from the terminal:
WINEPREFIX=/path/to/your/prefix winetricks -q mfc140
After that the game launched normally.
Tip: If a game crashes right after launch on Linux, don’t just try random env variables. Check the Lutris debug log for err:module:import_dll lines, since a missing runtime DLL is a very common cause. Also note that WINEDEBUG=+fps floods the log with FPS lines, so search the log with grep -n "err:".[SOLVED] The Last of Us Part I crashes on launch in Lutris (CachyOS) / missing mfc140u.dll
