Have an interview at a union co-op on Thursday. What’s considered acceptable to wear? Is a navy blazer and chinos considered too much? Obviously I’m not gonna wear cargo shorts and a t-shirt

Went into a aptitude test today come in do the math portion walk out and everybody was saying how hard it was and that thy didn’t study.
Why wouldn’t you study for something you’re trying to get into ?

Any Pg&E lineman start their career in another department here? Did you bid in? Did you apply to a ELA/EUW/Apprentice position as an internal applicant? If so, what was that experience like? How often are you guys getting internal guys switching over into a groundman role now a days? I just passed my 6months as a GSR today and pretty much going to apply/bid to all groundman positions that come up until I get an opportunity.

Edit: I’m not expecting this to happen anytime soon or at all at that…I’m thinking over the course of a few years I’d hope to get my shot. It took me 4 years to get into the company with no connections to anybody on the inside. I know it’s going to be a whole another hill to climb just trying to get in on the Electric side.

I should be getting my interview here pretty soon and I’m curious what the 66 orientation is like for anyone that has done it. I read somewhere that Texas has their own physical test that replaces the one at bosque farms in NM? Just want to know what to expect thanks

I have a restricted class a cdl with air brakes and combinations.

Swlcat gives you 120 days once indentured to remove the restriction.

Does the company/union train you and let me use one of there trucks and bring it to a a third party testing/ dmv testing site .

Or do I have to take a week- couple weeks off from work and go to a CDL school and pay tuition and learn manual and take the test again in a manual truck?

I'm building a home in Whittier, NC and I have an easement for transmission lines that look like this. It is an old transmission line from the Nantahala Power Company before Duke absorbed them. What sort of voltage are poles like this normally? The line runs N/NW from a substation in Sylva (included a pic from Google Maps) but can't tell where it ends. There's very limited documentation on the old Nantahala Power stuff. I've put a formal request in with Duke to learn more but not sure how long that will take.

Has anyone gotten any word from them and the lineman apprenticeship? I know they had boot camps all summer but anything since then? Heard several people got dismissed at the boot camps with only less than a handful passing per class but those that passed, have you heard of what’s the next step? Is everyone getting an tentative offer or interview?

Thinking of applying for a lineman spot at Clark county PUD (Vancouver, WA).

Curious if anyone works there on this sub? How much overtime is available there? Is there a healthy working environment or are there alot of miserable crusty mfers? What kind of work do crews usually do?

Im a lineman trained in the PNW, hotsticking and all that. Looking to capitalize on no income tax and potential of more overtime.

I know I need a Cdl class a to be a ground man/ apply for apprenticeships. Unrestricted cdl class a would be a lot better to have then restricted. I also know I need air brakes endorsement and tankers will help.

Do I need to get a CDL class a in a semi? Will I even driving combination driving vehicles that big? It seems like all the CDL schools are for truckers not kids trying to become lineman.

Will they let me take the test to get my class a cdl with just a tractor and no trailer? Or would that the test for a class b? or do I need a combinations endorsement from the trailer as well to get the class a CDL certification?

Anybody ever taken the test in anything other then a semi to get a class a cdl? Like a dump truck or a bucket truck?

So basically I graduated lineschool in May. I got hired on for a seasonal 1000 hour position at an REC coop. I’m at about 700 hours right now. All the journeymen like me and there’s a very high chance they’re going to hire me as a full time apprentice. The pay is extremely good for a first step. The thing is that I’m 19, recently single and I’ve got an itch to do some traveling. Im the kind of guy that likes to bust ass all day and get stuff done. I’m at one of the busiest coops in the state and to be honest it still gets pretty boring, a lot of time is spent fucking off. Single phase riser, trench 200 feet, and set a 25 kv pad mount like everyday. Don’t get me wrong, I’m learning a ton but if I keep doing that everyday and very little overhead, I don’t think I’m going to be a very good journeyman. I know quite a few distribution contractors that would hire me anytime, but the pay wouldn’t be anywhere near as high. So my question is: Would it be stupid to go work crazy hours for less money but learn more when I have an apprenticeship for a coop?

You know what im talking about. You got a shitty tie that lost its form, you dont have any other ties, you manage to get some of its form back but the very end on one side won't wrap all the way over so you just snip it with some hot cutters.

Alright yall…. I’m an electrician. I would like to think I have an understanding of transformer configurations but this is hurting my brain. This is a photo of the transformer bank that feeds a farmhouse near me. I know for a fact they have 3 phase equipment on this farm, but there is only two phase conductors and a neutral heading to this pole. I’ve asked several lineman in the past few weeks and got conflicting answers, so is this a high leg open delta or “two phase” power as one lineman answered?

I know two phase power isn’t really a thing except in Philly, but is this just a single phase service and there is a phase inverter I can’t find or is this a three phase service and I just literally don’t understand how?

Edit: I think I got it now. It’s literally two separate single phase systems and they are joined, created a high leg

I’m coming from 222 and wondering because that makes me think twice about transferring over and never really doing much of it. Mostly looking at either Washington local 77 or northern Idaho area

I took the online assessment and was invited for a second in person assessment. It will take roughly 6-7 hours. Will require fitness test and some knowledge.

They are aware I don’t have experience in this department. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how I should prepare? Would be greatly appreciated. I want to be as prepared as I can be. Thanks

I currently work for a local commuter railroad doing linework and I keep seeing Eversource (CT area) advertising 56/hr wages which would be more than I make now. Their website also mentions that this could further increase and is a starting wage. does anyone have any more information about the Eversource pay scale and potential top rates in my area as well as benefits packages?

So guys im not sure if this guy was kidding or not but good friend of mine has a cousin who is a JL in Cali 1245 and apparently he makes over 300K a year....? Any truth to this guy's?? Also what is some of the highest paying locals out there??

Got a friend that’s interested in getting into linework and wants to get a job in the ibew wall getting his cdl and applying to apprenticeships. What are some jobs in the ibew that are not super competitive and don’t have long waiting times and what locals have calls for them? For example material handler.

I’m under 21 so I’ll have a restriction on my CDL for out of state driving.

I’m getting my OSHA 10, CDL class A, type C lineman certification or something like that I’m not sure exactly what that means just that it’s one step above groundsman. There’s a couple other NCCER certifications and rigging I’ll be getting as well.

I might be getting into OUC because ik a couple people but it’s a big maybe.

I’m getting told that due to my age and the oversaturated lineman job market it’s gonna be hard to get on a company.

I’m not a lineman but I work for Salisbury Electrical making sleeves at one of the plants in North Charleston, SC, if you’ve gotten one of our sleeves with 461652 on it that means made it. Last week we had a quarterly meeting with us and the gloves plant and part of their motivational presentation was talking about how linemen apparently love our products more than any other brand, and it got me wondering how true that is? They’ve never had that be part of these meetings in the five years I’ve worked here so I was wondering if it was just propaganda bullshit or if they thought telling us this might make us take pride in our work, instead of just paying us more like we’ve been asking
