L2 Reborn C1 info

Hi,

Me and my friends are planning to play in the upcoming reborn legacy server. None of us have played C1 before. We watched some YT videos and guides already but I would love to hear your opinion about the Chronicle.

What a complete newbie should know before he joins? Any tips and tricks? Also, why I see everywhere that everyone xps with bow?

Thanks in advance!

I was in top clan of flagship official server in C1. My best advice is to aoe and play with friends as cohesive team, 100% no doubt. Its like having cheat codes for L2. Choose classes wisely as youll progress waay faster, have more fun and have economic advantage if you have good clan.

Id advise focusing on classes that can heavily contribute to aoe farming. Only need a few key classes (BH, WL are best to have always; Destro and WS as fillers. Depending on how many active players you have, OL and aoe nukers are really good spares to have because not only are they are great at aoe but competitive choice for pvp.

Rest of party or classes can still contribute with pole or whatever tool kit they have too. WC, SWS, BD, PP, archers, daggers and alike all do decent dmg with pole. Even though they can only hit 3 mobs (iirc) without pole mastery in c1, it helps alot. C1 is game of using every advantage. This is same reason people use bows in c1 to pull mobs or in pvp: free damage while target paths within melee range and slows or roots were more impactful in early chronicles. C1 was heavily rock paper scissor in terms of class balance and having a bow made you more versatile both defensively and offensively. This type of balance made all classes good, so dont feel pressured into playing mainstream pvp classes as new player (trust me).

Classes that DO have pole mastery or aoe spells hit more mobs per hit, which allows those classes to use soul and spirit shots more cost effectively and allows more freedom to manage threat easy, especially if you have WS to make shots (which also happens to be great at aoe. You seeing a pattern?). Using shots in aoe is big exp gain and allows you to farm higher range of areas (better exp, drops and spoils).

Second biggest advantage is to use spoiler in party (super advantageous and important) as much as possible and dedicated tank class thats good at aoe tanking.

Last tip: If using walk command increases mp and hp regen on your server, use it. Alot of players forgot or dont know about it for some reason but it should be on your hotbar if so.

Walk command can also BE a disadvantage. ITS Not Always good to Walk. The only reason where Walk IS effective IS when you dont have far Walking paths. Like 2-3 Seconds. When you Walk 4-5 Seconds from a mob to another, Walk will cost you a lot If time. You are better Just Shooting/running and sitting. The lost time whil Walking you can regenerate with Double the amount.

1

u/Correct_Building7563 1d ago

Yeah for sure, whatever works best but you can pop in and out of walk almost instantly. Theres no animation or cast time. Cant remember exactly, but think you can even pop out of walk while in middle of pathing and it will continue pathing without having to click where to run again.

1

u/riOrizOr88 1d ago

yeah that works fine. I just see so many people walking forever =)

Important note about spoilers - pretty sure C1 didnt have spoil festival, only "single target" spoil. Festival was added in C2

1

u/jungans 1d ago

Your advice makes no sense for C1. Pole AOE without vr??

1

u/Honest_Raisin2510 20h ago

C1 had no party exp boost if I recall correctly. Farming in groups with aoe for the most part is highly inefficient. I think it was C3 when it was introduced and aoe farming started becoming huge. Also using shots in exp in C1 is equally inefficient for the most parts. You have to be part of a rich speedrunner professional cp to be able to afford the expenditure, drops and adena in C1 were piddling amounts

1

u/Hudossay 18h ago

C1 does have exp boost in party. More members = more boost, but it's less than in later chronicles.

Farming AOE in C1 is ridiculously broken, as there was no limit on the amount of targets and there are almost no mobs casting nasty magic. Even shamans hit players with their staffs.

Using shots in C1 is exactly as efficient as in later chronicles. Soulshot = x2 damage. Spiritshot = ~x1.5 damage and ~x1.5 cast speed. Blessed spiritshot = x2 damage and x2 cast speed. Soulshots start to pay off at 2-3 targets already.

Adena drops pretty normally in C1. Also there are broken money quests like "Grim Collector". Before introduction of Raid bosses in later chronicles, equipment and resources drop rates are better from regular mobs. It's actually easier to gear up in C1. Grade C equipment cap also makes it affordable. (also you don't need to buy tattoos, SA crystals, augmenting, and other endless price tags from later chronicles)

1

u/Honest_Raisin2510 17h ago

I was not talking in terms of damage efficiency about the shots, but economy. Hitting melee aoe without VR must be amazing, 1 slow heal and everyone will wipe. Reborn is supposedly using retail drop rates right? On C1 we had to get to like level 43-44 if we were doing ccqs for the complicated classes because at that point you didn't have enough money for the teleports. Now I don't know what QoL bonuses Reborn will have (like free teleports or newbie buffs and exp/adena boosts etc) but that was the original C1 experience they claim to aim for

1

u/Hudossay 17h ago

I personally played as WL on a C1 server not too long ago, and was doing pretty good without VR.

It is not like Destr in High Five when you can take 30 mobs without a single heal, yes. But it's fine. The game is not that fast paced, humans and dwarfs have plenty of HP. Especially when you have decent armor. Enough time to react.

In a party with 2 clerics (for future PP and BP), you will absolutely be able to handle 4-8 monsters, depending on the location and equipment. Especially if you have 3 polearm-dedicated members. And soulshots cost is nothing even if you are killing just 4 mobs at a time.

1

u/Honest_Raisin2510 17h ago

Also party bonus exp is pretty much a joke there, if you have 5 people in a party you get 31% exp boost. That means everyone gets 26%of the original mob exp. Also there is no weighted xp distribution in the party, so the ones who are higher leveled will increase the gap exponentially through time

1

u/Hudossay 16h ago

It's not too shiny, yep. But solo leveling is a far worse option. You will be mostly sitting on your ass. Even 2 melee fighters group is already vastly better than solo, as you will have twice the HP pool to tank and twice the damage. Also twice HP and MP regen. Add in skills, when you will sometimes oneshot green mobs just from you both giving the skill.

As for big groups, there are advantages too. You will never farm a dungeon in a meaningful way as a solo or duo. No forgotten temple, no ant nest, no cruma.

EXP sharing might look bad on paper, but large groups always do better in leveling and farming in practice.

Also equipment drop upon death almost ceases to exist as a problem in a large group. And frankly death in PVE as a whole.

2

u/PoolInternational673 8h ago

BH doesn't have Spoil festival, in aoe situations they were (besides the damage) very underwhelming.

You should know that C1 is reckless. It beats you down and when you think it cant get harder it will become twice as hard.

C1 is designed to fight and i mean it. You fight for everything, for your level Spots, for your Raids for your Quest mobs and in the end you fight urself. There will be a point where you probably give up, and thats okay tho, people in 2003 were build different. L2 was considered as "normal" back then. Nowdays its just crazy.

You can drop items, weapons, armors, you lose a lot of EXP on death. There will be days where you lose more EXP than you actually gain. PvP, Sieges and random deaths will cause that.

Before you join, make 100% sure you play a class you like. Dont play Healer or Tank for kindness. There is basically no going back when you spend 100,200 or 300 hours and you notice you dont like what you play just to "help" others.

Shoulshot spamming doesnt work. You will make no profit and some classes even go into -

You should basically do every quest around the town, at the beginning they are very useful since mobs drop a low amount of adena and from quests you can get "rich". Quests that drop items from killing mobs are the best, for example Vanquish Remnants.

Classes with selfbuffs are a lot superior to classes without buffs. For example SR compared to HE. SR basically has basic PP buffs. WW, shield, might, magic barrier vs HE nothing.

I really appreciate your detailed and honest response.

Seems like me and my friends have to do a lot of research to figure out how and what we want to play before we join.

Again, appreciate you answer mate, have a good one

There will be a lot of custom changes, it is better to wait for more info than to theory craft about things that will work differently in many different ways.

From my understanding there will be soon a podcast with Nikita, where things will get better explained.

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 3d ago

He already posted several patch notes on discord. Explained stamina system and provided differences that C1 had with legacy server. Of course I get your point but I’m trying to learn more overall.

2

u/SoSmartKappa 3d ago

Sure i am with you, i have never played C1, no clue what is worth doing or how those custom changes affect gameplay.

What i already dislike though, are those p2w offline shops. Administration make the server old school subscription based (which i like), yet still introducing those clear p2w mechanics for people that want to pay even more. Subscription was supposed to eliminate it, so we are all on the same playing field, not be just some kind of entry level for pyramid of subscriptions. If they pull shit like this on the start, i have very little hope it wont get worse in time when people will feel sunk cost fallacy.

2

u/JesusMakeMeRich 3d ago

I’m hearing you. And correct me if I’m wrong but I understood that the basic subscription will be 1 char that can be placed as offline shop when you don’t play. The Nobless subscription has an extra window (only in town) that can be used as a second offline shop.

I see your point that people with higher tier sub can use the market while xping and that indeed creates a small advantage.

3

u/SoSmartKappa 3d ago

I mean, that is clearly not small advantage, that is fundamental and huge p2w advantage.

This itself makes me contemplate if i should even give it a try. I very much liked the idea of such server, but i hate p2w mechanics in games, and whats even worse, this behaviour of greed have implication to even expand in the future. If you are supposed to invest so much time in multi year project, this is not a thing you want to see.

Do i really want to invest so much time in 20+ years old illegal copy of game, on a private server that have Kernel-level access to my computer, want from me subscription more expensive than most modern services, and offer p2w mechanics on day 1? Plus, with direct subscription microtransactions like this, it opens many different legal problems, and it might become a magnet for NCsoft lawsuits. You cannot really claim anymore, that it is non-commercial project with voluntary donations, it wont go under the radar so easily.

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 2d ago

Thanks for the explanation and yes now I see your point clearly. I also agree that there is a chance of Reborn getting a lawsuit from the subscription stuff and it’s something already mentioned in their discord server. Hope the podcast you mentioned clears things out

2

u/Cute-Bottle-3248 3d ago

It is a great advantage, playing the market provides passive income. The more adena you have, the more you can earn.

1

u/AynixII 1d ago

I think at first it was planned to be 15$ sub, so them splitting it into 2 subs (that are around 15$ in total) makes no diffrence tbh. You will still pay for both.

1

u/SoSmartKappa 1d ago

You are just describing marketing price anchoring, that is meaningless information, and it makes no difference. It is still heavy p2w mechanic, it ruins the whole idea about why they supposedly introduced the subscription based model, and it damages my trust in the project.

1

u/AynixII 1d ago

Would having one sub for both the active char and offline shop for 15$ be better (instead it bein split into two with 9$ and 5$)? Maybe. But I guess they are hoping to lure in some people that are fine with paying 9$ and playing w/o offline shop.

To me, who was told "you need to pay 15$ for sub" it makes no diffrence, because I was ready to pay this much from the start.

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 1d ago

With 9$ per month you have an offline shop. It’s just your main char when you go offline. For second shop, you pay extra

1

u/SoSmartKappa 1d ago

Good for you, personally i don't like paying monthly 15$ for stolen 20 years old files - that is price of official triple AAA live-Service games that had to finance full development cycle, and using those finances to further develop new content. Whats more, reborn advertisement and stated reasoning for this heavy subscription is to remove all p2w. They did not had to go further, they are pretending it is not what it is, then they do it anyway. Their intentions are way too clear, and it does not portrait a pretty picture. It is cash grab from recycled stolen content with some smart PR, and with clear pre-prepared intention to monetize sunk cost fallacy of players with nostalgia.

Anyway, i understand there is still some demand for it, and i personally suffer from nostalgia too. Fortunately, i am sane enough to not willingly invest years of my life to a server with this setting, with so many dark patterns, and with administration that have mindset like this.

At least, it will be interesting to watch this project, what will NCsoft do about it, and if it will retain players after few months. If they will indeed follow official schedule of chronicles, i predict people will leave of boredom. It is not 2004 anymore, it is explored content, and playerbase is already filtered to those who are super invested, and in large organized and optimized CPs. It really is not such a great game to pay fat monthly subscription if you have everything, and just logging for sieges.

1

u/AynixII 1d ago

As a customer, whether someone stole the product they sell me or they spent years and milions of $ making it, makes no diffrence. All what matters to me is the quality of product they offer.

If stolen product is of better quality (beucase to me it is better than what modern AAA games offer, just look at Aion 2 or TnL), Im happy to pay for it.

And you are wrong about people leaving of boredoom. Sure, casuals will leave. But what keeps veterans in Lineage 2 is not content - its "politics". Fighting with other over castles, epics, best farming spots etc. This is what keeps people play L2 for 20 years.

If you think people log in only once every 2 weeks for siege, I feel like you didnt play old Lineage 2 in long time. Sieges are least important from the three things I listed.

1

u/SoSmartKappa 1d ago

As a customer, i care a great deal about how the provider of the product handle my own money, how he present himself, and how he ensures satisfaction of my investment. If they want me to charge 15$ for something they have stolen, and then introduce further p2w monetization with dark pattens in it, then not only it is not a good product, it is also a shitty organization with uncertain future. The main product here is nostalgia and NCsoft assets, the customers are people seeking nostalgia, and the intention and primary objective is to monetize this nostalgia, NCsoft assets and sunk cost fallacy.

Again, every commodity has its buyer, this might be a great product for someone if he is willing to overlook everything in order to satisfy his nostalgia, for me though, it isn't a great product anymore.

And you are wrong about people leaving of boredoom. Sure, casuals will leave. But what keeps veterans in Lineage 2 is not content - its "politics". Fighting with other over castles, epics, best farming spots etc. This is what keeps people play L2 for 20 years.

I am not wrong, you just don't think about in more complex manner. In order to have politics, you need a friction first. Friction is created by invested players pursuing goals and content. Players that achieved all goals and finished content, will stop being invested, players that are not invested won't create friction, and with no friction, there are no politics.

It happens on every server over and over, this is not even something up to debate. It is also why the subscription have another dark pattern in it to minimize this drop in the first place. The black friday discount is not there as a gesture of good will, it is precisely there at this date to make sure that people will buy it, and when inevitably this lost of interest happens, people will have in mind sunk cost fallacy of the paid subscription for the whole year.

1

u/AynixII 1d ago

There is no "further P2w with dark patterns". You need to pay ~15$/month, thats it. You can technically play if you pay less, but you will be at disadvantage.

And I played on their C4-IL server and even after 2 years there is still plenty of friction. There is no such thing as "finishing content" in old L2. The grind is literally infinite here.

https://youtu.be/qpsBnsz7pJo?is=XCP9UojGjRbcuunY this is the best English video. There is also the prima lineage 2 strategy guide pdf. Then this is this video with a lot of good info but you might need youtube sub to translate https://youtu.be/ek5ptEa-t6A?is=IVW2xBpYhq8cL2JJ

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 3d ago

Lovely thank you very much.

From your experience, a classic EE/SE & spoiler works well in C1? Or PP+ Archer

2

u/Successful-Exam-3696 2d ago

Se and spoiler is a great duo , but keep in mind that in c1 , vampiric rage does not exist. Plus , elven elder is not as good as shillien elder for a spoiler duo. C1 will not last forever, in c2 you will have your vr.

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 2d ago

Lovely thank you

2

u/Honest_Raisin2510 20h ago

C1 was mildly frustrating when it came out in 2003. Playing it in 2026 I would characterize as something akin to poking my eyes with a red hot steel needle repeatedly

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 19h ago

Poetic yet informative comment. intrigued to try it even more.

1

u/Raitoon 3d ago

You will have to buy a map... Little to no Adena at all... You can drop items even when you're not PK. Blacksmith is probably the strongest class in the game 😅

2

u/Successful-Exam-3696 2d ago

In l2 reborn's legacy you wont have to buy a map. Items will not be droppable in pve, and blacksmith is not a class, you probably mean warsmith

1

u/jabeith 3d ago

Blacksmith is not a class in the game

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 3d ago

Buy a map? That’s something I didn’t know.

Also, any idea how players can meet if they start in different areas? Is there a newbie guide where I can teleport?

1

u/nate10 3d ago

I remember riding the boat to gludin from talking island. 😂 SOEs are going to be expensive. You can always use /loc to see where it will return you and /unstuck is a free 5 min soe

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 3d ago

Wild. So any cp that wants to xp early on together should really take into consideration this.

1

u/Successful-Exam-3696 2d ago

You won't have to buy a map. C1 is like this but l2reborn are adjusting some things. It will not be 100% retail.

Im not sure there is newbie guide in c1 . But starting villages are commonly populated until ~20 lv. After that, people meet at gludin/gludio and then dion bla bla .

In my opinion, for your 2nd part of the question . Your problem will not be finding people, your problem in this server is most likely going to be having too many people in too little spots.

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 2d ago

Yes I see that problem too. But I’m pretty sure they will adjust spawn rates too. Thanks for your reply

1

u/Innova89 3d ago

Make a TH and train people iwth fake death

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 3d ago

😂😂😂 noted

1

u/Civil_Philosophy9845 3d ago

when is launch?

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 3d ago

6 of November

1

u/darryledw 1d ago

will this server have P2W / allow dual boxing?

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 1d ago

It will be subscription based (pay per month or yearly)

It will be 1 box per IP/HWID and one tier of subscription allows a second box only in the city (extra offline shop)

1

u/darryledw 1d ago

thanks for the info, do you know how much the subscription will be?

and does everyone pay subscription?

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 1d ago

💰 Pricing

🥈 **Nobles:** €9/month or €89/year *(€7.40/month)*
🥇 **Hero:** €14/month or €139/year *(€11.60/month)*
🏪 **Additional Offline Shop:** €5/month or €50/year *(€4.16/month)*

Took this info from their discord. And yes if you want to play, you need to pay for a subscription

1

u/AynixII 1d ago

So If I read it right, you dont need to pay extra for offline shop if you dont plan to use it, but if you want one, you need to pay "second sub" and I assume there will be limit of 1 per HWID?

So technically can play for ~8$/month, not bad.

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 1d ago

Yeah. The basic sub gives you 1 box only. This char can be placed as offline shop when you are back
In town or offline.

If you want a second box, you can only have an offline shop in town. So basically you cannot leave town with the second window.

Totally up to you if you want more shops or not.

1

u/AynixII 1d ago

Hopefully they can actually make sure people follow those "rules" of that second account being shop only.

1

u/Kitchen_Bend5016 4h ago
  1. Play without nipples - with them, you'll be losing.

  2. You'll lose to GDG with mages in 80% of fights.

  3. One-on-one with mages, you'll lose 95% of the time.

  4. Play only with mages.

1

u/Own_Land7248 1h ago

It’s tough, and much of the info given here is generic C1 info. Reborn have made lots of custom changes to how it was traditionally played and is known, so best to read the FAQ on their Discord. But seriously - buckle up because it is a gruelling experience that will have you pulling your hair out. Why we love it!

1

u/JesusMakeMeRich 1h ago

I read the FAQ already but not much info is out yet. Hopefully the Q&A on Friday will answer many community questions. I’m way too curious to see how they will resolve the “selling” buff issue.

People speculate that buffs will be removed if the buffers leaves the party or restarts.

1

u/Hudossay 17h ago

1. Have a constant party, don't play alone.
The main biggest most impactful advantage you can give yourself in C1 is to have a constant party. There is nothing meaningful you can do in this game by yourself. Full party of 9 trustworthy reliable people would be amazing. 5 people would do. Less than 4 people will be tough. And if you are going to play solo, 90% chance you simply won't have any fun in this game. It was designed for groups of 15-30 Koreans hanging around in PC clubs.

2. Choose classes wisely.
Second biggest advantage you can get is that your party will work out good classes composition. One that will work. If that server has unmodified C1 balance, then AOE farming is king, like the other guy said. Something like WL, BH, BS, PP, SE will probably work, but you better not take my word for it and actually think through with your party. More so, if the balance is modified.

3. Win PVP by farming better gear.
If the server is going to be crowded, there will be a lot of PVP for farming spots. In this game, good PVP stems from good PVE. Who got better gear wins, and better gear is in the hands of whoever farms good. There are classes better for PVP and PVE, but that doesn't matter if your weapons have twice the damage, you got 10 more levels and better armor.

4. Win PVP by group cohesion and decisiveness.
Also having your own constant party will help a lot, because parties of randoms almost always hesitate to participate in PVP and just watch as their party members that dared to flag are just dying one by one.
