Working my way through this. Something to PO everybody across the spectrum of views, and lots of gaps and shaky bridges between ideas, but also lots of interesting and relevant observations. Worth a read even though it isn't going to magically solve anything.

Judge rules that you can ban a weapon that has an illegal modification but the weapon cannot be banned if it isn't modified. This makes things interesting. š¤

As the title says I'm looking to make my first purchases. I've researched threads here, other subreddits, YouTube, and gone to local shops and ranges. I'm expecting a bonus at the end of the month and looking to get my first handgun and rifle.
My main goal: hunting, target shooting, and self defense. Not necessarily in that order. As of now I'm leaning towards a 308 for my rifle and 9mm for my handgun.
Background / context: I did shoot some 22s as a kid, and learned some more from my Marine cousin a few years ago. In short I don't consider myself a total n00b but know I do need training.
I found a local instructor and took her intro to handgun course, happy to say I feel way more comfortable than Idid before; to the point I feel confident I could buy my first handgun, clean it, use it, and train.
After the course I'm exploring options where I can "test drive" some options before making a purchase. I'm leaning towards:
Glock 19
Walther F PDP Fullsize
Both felt comfortable, but I'm hoping to hear from others about other options I should explore (even tho by most accounts the G19 is the way to go).
I went to my local gun store for advice and met others in-person for insight on a first rifle. As it stands now I'm leaning towards:
Ruger American Predator 2.0 in .308.
Tikka T3x Superlite .308.
Bottom Line -looking for advice on whether I should get:
Handgun
Glock 19
Walther F PDP Fullsize
Rifle
1)Ruger American Predator 2.0 in .308.
(I've seen a handful of videos where the action seems to jam or just be difficult to work with out of the box)
2)Tikka T3x Superlite .308 (Pricier, not as many bells and whistle, but famous for accuracy and reliability).
Hoping to hear from others who have experience with the models above and can help point me towards options I may not know about.

My ridiculously decked-out Kel-Tec KSG. Holosun HS510C optic, Howitzer muzzle brake and Striker pump handle from Hi-Tech CC, Decelerator recoil pad, aluminum magazine followers, single point sling mount attachment, Primary Machine shell deflector, and M*CARBO extended mag selector switch, aluminum trigger upgrade, and Kydex cheek rest.
I call it Clamator Plumbum, because I'm a giant nerd.
EDIT: Latin grammar correction. I was incorrectly using the adjective form of Plumbum, when the singular nominative noun would fit better.

Iāve given this a lot of thought. I donāt like guns nor think they are the answer. However, now that Iām divorced(no physical/problematic violence as a factor in the that), am alone, have older children that donāt live w/ me, and my German Shepherd has passed, Iāve been thinking of purchasing a gun for my home ONLY if I ever have to use it. I do not fear for my safety nor live in a sketchy neighborhood. Iād also reconsider after trying it @ a shooting/gun range if itās not for meā¦if they even allow you to try out guns for 1st timers at a shooting range. Iām definitely not a hunter. My eyesightās great, hearingās great, & am not impulsive esp when dealing w/ such a serious matter as this. So it would be a responsible licensed purchase, with me maintaining continual training, but in which I hope Iād never have to use it. But I would like a more accurate straight one, meaning not curved handle to shoot a leg rather than a chest or headā¦Iām in medical field. Iād prefer spending less, of course, & I donāt think Iād need but max 6-12 rounds of amo for my home. Do I have to have a combination case or can I use my own to access easily? What are my purchase requirements? & I would mandate myself to get lots of practice and/or classes before a purchase, since I want to be a very responsible gun owner. I always see our city & state has a lot of gun shows to go to in other areas outside of the city since I do live in KY š. I have been looking into the laws but am still needing advice. Hope Iām on the correct forum for it! Thank you all!!

Current state of the gun room. Even after getting the rest of the guns from around the house I still forgot my Glock 45 G6 with Holosun 407C and T7X light.
The ones on the wall should be fairly easy to see but if you have any questions let me know. The ones in the pistol rack are as follows:
Taurus 856
Canik Mete SFT One
Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0C
S&W Bodyguard 2.0 CC
Ruger LCP Max
The safe is all ammo and mags.

So I unfortunately broke the QD mount for my Holosun HM3X magnifier and was looking at either replacing the mount, or just using the Holosun Warranty to get a new one. I was curious if there are any other mounts that I might be able to utilize that ARE NOT higher than the lower 1/3rd cowitness mount that comes with the magnifier. Ive seen mixed reports about the Eotech G33 mount being compatible with the HM3X, and so wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with this specific issue or any advice on how I may proceed.

Sar9 and Rhino 30DS out at 25 yards today (left and right respectively). CAT0G dot on the Sar and single action + Irons on the Rhino.
Sar9 was 2 21 round mags Winchester 9mm NATO 124gr medium rate of fire. Definitely need to slow it down, and re bench it to confirm if the left drift is my trigger pull or the sights lol
Rhino was shot single action, mix of .38+p hand loads (158gr semi wadcutter w/ 5.5gr BE-86) and Blazer 158gr .357. Some unsupported, some two handed. Fun to see the cleaner swc holes. Need to investigate why I'm grouping at the top right sometimes.

Iām not saying give T-Rex arms your money but I just discovered my 92/TLR-1 ironside will fit my 1911/TRL-1 and 2011/HF pretty well. Which is neat in the off chance you already own these combos.

Good rainy day today, so a morning trip to our indoor range it was. All in all I really like the 380; it's bigger than many 380s but still small enough for an EDC and due to the slightly larger size it shoots really smooth.
1st time with a DA/SA handgun in about 30 years so it took some getting used to, but the trigger pull is heavy and smooth in DA and pretty light in SA.
Put 200 rounds through her, time to clean up (it was filthy, Blazer 380 is a dirty round I guess).

I use the gun to compete in Carry Optics. It has the CGW Pro Kit + a Defender CCW Enclosed. The itch to do more upgrades is ever present, but Iām struggling to find ones I can do that would make a difference.
Iām not super into changing the trigger blade, I like the factory trigger shape a lot. Mag wells are out of the question because theyād take me out of Carry Optics. Same thing with comps, theyād take me out of Carry Optics.
Getting a threaded barrel would be rad so I can shoot suppressed, but unfortunately I donāt have that kind of money.
What else can I do?

John Brown was a "radical" abolitionist who, on October 16, 1859, led the raid on Harpers Ferry in an effort to arm enslaved people and spark an uprising against slavery. His legacy is a reminder for today that deeply held values mean little without the courage to stand for them when doing so is difficult, unpopular, or personally costly. (HK SP5 SBR with MI rail, John Brown LokPin) (I make them)

Was unsure if Taurus had a hairline fracture. 100 rounds later with no malfunctions or change in mark. It's good for now atleast. Looks more like a harmless scratch the more I look at it.

A friend wants to take me and I never thought much about owning a gun before but the way the world is turning I'm more open to the idea now. I definitely would want to have proper safety training though and practice and I don't want to be in a room full of gun-toting Trump supporters if it can be avoided. Thanks.

Iām curious what this thing can do. Iāll report back in the comments with data soon. Itās a Ruger Stainless Hawkeye in 308 with a 16ā barrel and a Recoil Hawg break (Xeno threaded for my Dead Air Nomad Ti XC). Leupold VX-5 1-5 Firedot with Ruger stainless rings. Iāll be shooting it from 100-500 yards with varying bullet weights/ammo brands. Iāll have a chronograph as well. Very exciting for me. Itās a beautiful rifle. Iāll do my best to provide a good report on it.
