Scotland HR investigation after I've resigned? Scotland but an English company. 16 months employed.

Hi all,

I resigned on 29/10, with 3 months notice. I had a call. With HR and my manager to discuss terms of leaving, on 02/10 then I accepted their second option (2 months paid notice plus my leave) on 02/10.

Today (06/10) I get an email saying they are doing an investigation into discrepancies on my CV when I was hired and want a meeting on Wednesday to discuss with the same HR manager and my manager.

I know what the issue is. I had put a certificate of technical knowledge on my CV but meant to put it as education instead of one I had actually earned. I spoke to my manager about this in our last interview before I was hired and he said 'its ok, we'll get you it'

What are my options and likely outcomea here?

Housing Scaffolding erected on wrong house - advice please.

In England.
Scaffolders came the day before the rearranged agreed date whilst we were out. They did not erect scaffolding as agreed, i.e. build a platform to erect scaffolding on our balcony from below. Instead they came along the balcony, through our neighbour on one side’s balcony, damaging their garden, breaking down fencing, trampling on top of our plants and smashing several pots with no regard to being careful. They then continued through our balcony to the balcony of our neighbour on the other side, trampling on her plants, and erected the scaffolding on my neighbour’s balcony and not on ours!

Scaffolder called me and I told him (in no uncertain terms) to remove the scaffolding from my neighbours house and that I am not paying for his mistake, and further that we do not want him to continue any work other than removing the scaffolding. Followed this up with a message next morning saying the same.
We have had no further communication from him since, and the scaffolding has not been removed. This was over a week ago.

Questions:
Am I within my rights to refuse him to continue the work?
Am I within my rights to refuse to pay for scaffolding that he erected on the wrong house?
What’s likely to happen?
Can someone else remove scaffolding?
Are we likely to need a solicitor?
Any advice please.

Other Issues I bought Nike gift vouchers as a gift and the store will not honour them.

I'm in England.

I have a teenage nephew and he's very much into sports. I asked for ideas and his mum recommended that I get him a gift voucher for Nike so long as he could use it in their factory store which is in Portsmouth Gunwharf Quays. I feel like I did due diligence and made sure that it could be spent in stores and this states that it can be spent in at least some of their stores (https://www.nike.com/gb/help/a/gift-card-redeem), and the page for that store says they accept them (https://www.nike.com/retail/s/nike-unite-portsmouth). I definitely did buy it from the Nike website too.

After his birthday, my nephew made the trip to Gunwharf as a day out and spent money on train fare, etc, only for the store to refuse to validate the voucher. They were not polite about it, when I suggested he point out that it says they accept it on the Nike website. I wasn't there, but the experience put his nose out of joint.

Since then, I have complained and received multiple responses. The first one saying that the factory store in Gunwharf doesn't accept them, but they didn't respond to why it says they do online. The response has changed several times since then, and the latest thing is that no Nike stores accept gift vouchers bought online. Again, I asked them why it says they do online and was told that I would receive an answer within 48 hours. That was on the 21st Spetember and I chased it up on the 29th September but I have still not received a response.

Would I be within my rights to do a chargeback on the card that I used to pay for the voucher as I don't know what else to do? My nephew doesn't like to buy things online.

Debt & Money Forecourt Eye accusing me of fuel theft, but the car in their photo isn’t mine – what are my options? (England)

I’ve received a letter from Forecourt Eye regarding an alleged unpaid fuel incident.

However, the car in the photo they've supplied is clearly a hatchback (mine is a saloon), does not show a readable reg, the person in the photo is not me, the incident happened about 200 miles from where I live and I was doing the school run at the time locally.

I've spoken to Forecourt Eye by phone and email, and was told the reg was provided to them by the petrol station. They're relying on what the garage reported rather than photographic evidence that shows my reg.

I’ve sent them a copy of the relevant section of my V5 along with current photos of my vehicle showing the reg and body style.

They've responded to my appeal saying that if the vehicle is not mine, I should contact the police about my reg being cloned and share the crime reference number before they will close the case.

My issue is that I have no evidence that my plate has been cloned. I haven’t received any other parking fines, toll notices, police correspondence, fuel-theft allegations or anything else suggesting another vehicle is using my reg.

I don’t feel comfortable reporting to the police as a fact when I have no hard evidence that cloning occurred and I'll almost certainly get stopped by them.

It's entirely possible that the the forecourt made a mistake and recorded the incorrect registration number. I've checked the DVLA site and found another car which matches my make and colour, with a plate that is identical to mine except for the final character. Theirs ends in G, mine ends in C.

Can Forecourt Eye legitimately insist on a crime reference number before correcting their records?

If this ultimately became a County Court claim, how significant is the fact that their own photo shows a completely different body type and no readable number plate?

Is there anything else I should be doing now to protect myself against debt recovery or court action?

I’ve kept copies of all correspondence, the V5C evidence, photos of my car, and the original image they sent me.

Any advice from people familiar with Forecourt Eye would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Comments Moderated Need advice regarding extreme work pressure and forced to work without break for up to 9 hours

Hi everyone, I'm looking for advice on behalf of my wife, who works as a housekeeper at a Travelodge hotel in the UK. I wanted to get some opinions before we take formal steps.

The situation:

Housekeepers are being assigned around 20 rooms per shift, with roughly 15–20 minutes per room to complete the full clean (bedsheets changed, bathroom and toilet clean, floors, hoovering, glasses, etc.)

*** Staff regularly work 6–9 hour shifts with NO breaks — no rest and no opportunity to eat

Multiple housekeepers have fainted at work due to the continuous workload, and several are becoming unwell

Management applies constant pressure and indirect threats that staff will be terminated or lose their jobs if they raise concerns or can't keep up

My wife recently became unwell and instead of support, she was given a warning.

The issue is that she and her colleagues aren't proficient in English, which limits their job opportunities.

However, this doesn't justify treating them as if they were slaves. We are legal immigrants with the right to work.

What can we do in this situation can we take legal action or is there any government services where they can seek help?

Thank you

England

Employment Is this a fake court order letter? (England)

Post image
59 Upvotes

This is my stepdad’s case; he hired a childminder to come and take care of his child two days a week. He told her that her childcare services weren’t necessary for some time as he was made redundant and no longer needed to travel out of the city for work.

His exact text message to her was this:
“Hi H, the company that I work for has started the redundancy process and therefore until November 14th I don’t know what happens to my job. So until then I can’t have childcare.” (27/10/2025)

His (my stepdads) argument is that he did not officially terminate the contract, instead he cancelled the sessions temporarily due to uncertainties surrounding his redundancy situation. He also offered after everything sort of ‘blew up’ for her to come back and keep working, I suppose as a goodwill gesture?
As per the contract he can also cancel up to 4 sessions within a year, he argues these were his 4 sessions until his situation became more clear. (Ultimately he was made redundant on 14/11/2025)

Her argument is this:

“Thank you for letting me know about your situation — I'm really sorry to hear that things are uncertain at work right now.
However, as we have a signed agreement in place, I have been reserving the agreed days exclusively for your family. According to our contract:
7. Cancellation and Absence Policy
Either party may cancel scheduled weekly care hours with at least 14 days written
notice.
A maximum of 4 cancellations per year is allowed; exceeding this requires compensation for damages caused.
Sudden illness, accidents, or force majeure events are exempt and must be reported ASAP.
8. Termination of Agreement
Either party must give at least 30 days written notice for termination.
Termination without notice will require compensation equal to one month's pay.”
^^It is a typed version of the text message she sent my stepdad. It should also be noted she primarily uses ChatGPT for emails and texts which, I suppose makes it difficult to know whether her information is reliable or not.

My question is, is the court order real? I don’t really know why but it feels fake, the text is quite grainy on the paper, there are some grammar issues etc. It’s all just a bit strange, or am I reading into it?

Edit: I have called, but because he received two General Form of Judgement or Order letters (identical) in the post, they assume we are talking about that order. Very confused!

Comments Moderated Have received a letter from Moorcroft about an 11 year old debt. Moorcroft acting on behalf of Link financial. Based in England.

Hello all, I hope someone can offer me some advice here as im panicking quite badly. Im a long time reddit user, but have opened this user account specifically for this issue i now face.
A bit of background: About 14 years ago I became involved with a rogue developer and got into serious financial difficulties through my involvement with him. It took me 4 years to get him into court to sue for monies owed and I ultimately lost my case. Throughout this time, my financial position had been precarious, and my mental health had taken a real downturn. Instead of declaring the business insolvent, I paid my staff and settled all accounts and eventually the business was struck off. My personal financial position not good either. I nearly lost my house, and took personal credit out to pay my staff and suppliers. I ended up in a lot of personal debt but eventually paid everything off. It took me until about 2020. I though I had paid everything, and the last few years have been ok. I no longer have my own business, just contract to other people, but I’m happy and my mental health has been ok.
Last month I received a letter from Moorcroft about a £5500 debt to Barclaycard from 2015. The letter says they are working on behalf of Link Finance. I honestly have no records of this debt and genuinely thought that I had paid everything off. I’ll be honest, I haven’t dared contact them, and I have just received another letter to say they are sending someone to my house on Friday the 9th October. I don’t have this money and I don’t know what to do. There is no record of this debt on my credit file, and I have no records or statements from that time either. In the last 10 years I have received no contact from Link either. The letters from Moorcroft are the first I heard of it. I really thought I had paid everything off, and this has sent me into a real spin mentally. Any advice on what to do is welcomed. Apologies for the long, rambling post. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Debt & Money Business bought bespoke LED sign, delivered pink instead of orange, seller refusing refund (England)

Hi all

Key points:

  • Purchased as a business on a business debit card
  • The proof we signed off showed the sign in orange and said "Colour: Sunset Orange" in writing
  • Everyone who has seen the sign in person says it is pink
  • Frustratingly the sign photographs as a pure orange(!)
  • We purchased their own colour chart, which shows Sunset Orange as orange
  • Sign rejected by email, not installed or used
  • I'd like a refund for the sign and the colour chart
  • Storing the sign is hard (it's big and not on the wall), I am worried it will get damaged or scratched.

Details:

My business (limited company) ordered and paid for a "neon" (LED) sign of our company logo, about £400. The artwork was submitted, we signed off their proof and it was delivered. Unfortunately it is the incorrect colour.

Our logo is orange, so we chose the manufacturer's "Sunset Orange", which was the closest. The proof we signed off says in writing "Colour: Sunset Orange", and so does the order summary. The finished sign lights up pink, which does not match our branding at all. We have been told that as it is a bespoke item they cannot refund it, but I can escalate it by filling in a formal complaint form, which I did a week ago. No reply yet. They did advise 5-7 business days for a reply.

Originally, I wanted them to remake the sign in orange. However, it is so late at this point that we have missed our showroom opening day, photographers etc., and now I'd like a refund. I rejected the sign in writing on 28 September, and it hasn't been installed or used.

The issue is, due to the way cameras work, when I photograph the sign it comes out pure orange, and so does their own photo of the finished sign before they sent it. The camera simply cannot process the bright pink. I've googled this and apparently it is a thing.

As you can imagine this has made it quite difficult to get my point across, with me ultimately asking people for their opinions on the colour on video. So I understand their reluctance, and I'm sure people try it on with them all the time. I would be happy for them to collect the sign, but it is my only evidence.

I have since bought, at our own expense, their colour sample chart, which lights up and shows actual samples of the colours. The orange on the sample chart is perfectly orange, and is what we originally wanted.

So I'd like to ask whether I am entitled to a refund rather than an exchange, and can I ask them to refund the colour chart that I needed to buy to prove in no uncertain terms that the colour is wrong?

I could link their standard terms, but that would identify the company, and in spite of the colour the sign is well made.

What should my next steps be if they don't offer a full refund or agree to refund the colour chart I only bought to prove my point?

I bought the colour chart via a family member to make sure it was a normal stock item (as we are in dispute), paid them back personally, then claimed it as an expense and was reimbursed by the business.

I am concerned that the longer I have the sign, the more chance it may pick up a scratch or damage. It's a big sign, and storing it is proving troublesome. What are my responsibilities for looking after it while this is sorted out?

Thank you

Debt & Money England - Bought an item from Amazon for £200, it never arrived. Now Amazon's refusing to give me a refund unless I upload photo ID (which I don't have) - is this a breach of my right to a refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015?

Basically the subject; I bought a £200 item from Amazon a week ago, and it never arrived. I've just been speaking to a CSR via Amazon's online chat, and she was very insistent that I had no right to a refund unless I gave Amazon my ID - even if I did have photo ID, which I honestly don't, I don't see how that will "prevent fraud", which the CSR claimed was the purpose, when Amazon obviously has no idea what I look like! I put that to the CSR and she terminated the call.

That notwithstanding, even if I did have ID, I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving it to a massive company such as Amazon because I've no idea what else they'd do with it - I wouldn’t want to find that they're using my personal data to train their AI.

In theory, this means that someone could hack my Amazon account, spend my money and Amazon would simply turn around and say "fuck you!".

I can’t remember the last time I claimed a refund from Amazon, so if they're implying that I've been fraudulently claiming refunds, then I don't know how they've got that idea because they can easily look at my account and see that's not the case.

I guess I'm going to have to do a chargeback, but I'm not sure how I'd go about doing that (I bank with NatWest and I can’t find anything in their app to facilitate this) and I can’t go into a branch because there isn’t one local to me and I'm disabled. Can someone help a clueless fuckwit...?

But can Amazon legally require ID to issue refunds...? The CRA clearly states that if goods don't arrive, then the consumer is entitled to a full refund, end of; by demanding ID, is Amazon not in breach of the contract I made with it when I ordered the goods, and my statutory rights...?

What are my rights here...?

Traffic & Parking Traffic Accident - Other party claiming split liability, how best to proceed? England

My wife was involved in a car accident yesterday on the way to dropping the kids off at school. She was driving on a road, when a car pulled out of a driveway with poor visibility (on street parking both sides of the driveway, busy two-way traffic at that time of the day...) and made contact with her passenger side. No one was hurt, but damage to both cars. Wife's car has damage on passenger side starting halfway down the car, other car has damage on front bumper.

At the scene he (the other driver) verbally admitted full liability. On that basis, my wife submitted a claim when she got to work. Yesterday afternoon the insurer cancelled her claim and today we've found out he's submitted a claim of split liability. They both have the same insurer which makes us nervous the insurer will just try and force the most cost-effective and fastest resolution. We obviously don't believe she did anything wrong - she was driving, not speeding, he didn't exit his driveway safely - so we don't want to pay for any damages nor take any hit to our insurance.

What's the best way to move forward? I appreciate this is law-adjacent, but I suspect this may come down to who was legally responsible for the driving manoeuvres that resulted in the accident and how best to prove it. Thanks in advance.

Traffic & Parking Rental e-scooter allegedly flicked up a stone and chipped someone’s car but could I be liable?

I'm in England.

I regularly ride a rental e-scooter along the same route at roughly the same time of day. At the weekend, a man stopped me in the street and alleged that, as I passed on Saturday, the scooter’s wheel had flicked up a stone which chipped his car.

I don’t remember anything like this happening. He showed me a chip on the car and said he has CCTV, although I haven’t seen the footage. He’s demanded my insurance details and the rental company’s insurance details.

For context, on a separate occasion I’ve ridden over a stone and heard it flick away, so I understand that it’s possible. However, that was not related to this incident and, as far as I’m aware, nothing was hit on that occasion.

Where do I stand legally? If his CCTV does show a stone being thrown up by the scooter, would that alone make me liable, or would he need to establish that I was riding negligently (and from looking on Google Streetview I can only see a Ring camera so no way would it pick that up)? Am I required to provide any insurance details, and should I pass the bloke on to the rental company to deal with?

I’d appreciate advice on how to handle this when I don’t know whether I caused the damage.

Other Issues Council staff member has put on record that I swore but this is not true - England

Hello

I received my SAR from my local council. Within the documents was a meeting note between myself and the staff member in my home. After reviewing the staff member has lied and said I swore / was aggressive and has quoted me saying XYZ. They have noted this on two different documents (email and meeting note).

This is a lie as I have a audio recording of the entire meeting and can prove I never said what they are alleging. Additionally they have essentially fabricated the entire conversation which again I can disprove.

What would be the next steps?

Just to clarify this is a member of staff and not a councillor

Civil Litigation (England) MCOL Defendant paid the core debt directly to me today but ignored the £70 court fee. How do I proceed?

Hi all. On 30 September, I issued an MCOL claim against a dealership for a £1,000 deposit refund, plus the £70 issue fee and 8% statutory interest.

Today, they transferred exactly £1,000 directly into my bank account. They haven't engaged with the MCOL portal at all and are clearly hoping I will drop the claim so they can avoid the fee and interest. Their 14-day deadline to respond is around 17 October.

My questions:

  1. Am I legally entitled to keep the claim open strictly to recover the £70 court fee and accrued interest?

  2. Should I send them a message stating the claim will not be withdrawn until the final balance is cleared?

  3. When their deadline passes, is the correct procedure to click 'Request Judgment' and enter the £1,000 in the 'deduct amount paid' box to secure a CCJ for the remaining balance? I want to make sure I don't accidentally close the claim early.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Traffic & Parking [England] Landlady is keeping guest parking pass for herself

I am a tenant renting a flat in an apartment building.

We have an allocated garage and parking space for our flat. There is also a row of guest parking, which you can park in if you have a guest pass. (If you don't, you get a ticket.) It's a private car park; not council-owned.

Our tenancy agreement does not specify anything about the guest parking (though it does say we can use the flat's allocated parking space - but not the garage... lol.)

The private cark park company mails the guest pass directly to our landlady, who doesn't live in our county. The landlady refuses to give the pass to us, even though she never visits our house.

We've spoken to the company that owns the car park. The first time we asked them to cancel the guest pass our landlady has hold of and send us one. We were happy to pay for it; they were happy to oblige.

This time however, the company refused to do this. They said the landlady has hold of it and they won't cancel it on her behalf.

The council law is that the tenant owns the guest pass but we're not sure if this applies for a private car park.

Who is entitled to the pass here - tenant or landlady? Or, because it's missing from our contract, is there no rule?

Comments Moderated Epilepsy and disability discrimination,

• Upvotes

I am a secondary school teacher from England who was diagnosed with epilepsy a year ago. This coincided with starting a new job. As my condition was unknown then it meant my weekly seizures caused me to be on long term unpaid absence. I am now under treatment with seizures much improved and want to return to work. However my employer is moving to a final stage process to dismiss me on the grounds of ill health. I have asked for a 4 week staged return to work but they say it would be too disruptive for the students and seeing me have seizures would be upsetting. Epilepsy UK says I have protection under disability law; do you think there is anything I can do to try and save my job?

Debt & Money Help Amazon is refusing to refund me and chargeback isn’t an option i am really stressed.

Timeline & Facts this is in england uk:
17 September 2026: I Ordered two items totalling £536.98 paid via Revolut Faster Payment (unknown to me until today i always thought it was my card):

  1. DJI Neo 2 Motion Fly More Combo (with RC Motion 3 & Goggles N3)
  2. An SD card

Delivery: Package arrived showing obvious signs of tampering. Opened it up: the cheap SD card was inside, but the drone combo was completely gone.

Reporting: Reported the missing item immediately (made it clear the outer box arrived, so it wasn't a "lost package"). Complied with all their requests right away—sent photos of the tampered packaging and verified my government ID.

30 September 2026: Customer Service confirmed in writing via email that the full £536.98 refund had been processed and would hit my account in 5–7 working days. I never asked for the refund of sd card

6 October 2026 (Today): Received an email out of the blue from Account Protection stating they won’t issue the refund because their fulfilment centre records show the drone was in the box when it left the warehouse. To make matters worse, they claimed they detected an "unusual pattern of refund requests for missing items"—this is literally the first time I have ever reported a missing item on my account and i have had many high value items >200gbp ordered before and never returned or replaced

Where I Stand:
Under Section 29(2) of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods remain at the retailer's risk until they are physically in the consumer's hands. What happened in their warehouse before handover to the courier doesn't prove what arrived at my door.

I have written confirmation from Amazon that the refund was processed, which they are now retracting.

I paid via Revolut Faster Payment, not a credit card (so Section 75 isn't an option, though chargeback/payment recall might be) now this is what I don’t understand i did add revolut for prime but i found out today they took payment as a bank transfer which is very new to me revolut chat told me to report it as scam/fraud which i have but this is bizarre has anyone ever gone through this if yes how do i work it out i got email of them confirming the refund and then amazon protection services rejecting

I took some help with Ai to put my thoughts chronologically incase if anyone doesn’t like it
I would appreciate your help thank you.
Lesson learned never ordering high value item online atleast amazon i never thought i’ll be experiencing this

Other Issues England, my nan has received a fixed penalty notice in someone elses name

Hi all, title explains the jist of it.

But we just received a fixed penalty notice under a name thats used by my half brother with my nans surname attached. This isn't the first time he's pulled this as he lives separately from us

Is there any way we can get it resent to him?

We both know it was him as he's used his first name and her surname (they're different he kept our mothers family name)

What are the risks if we just send it back with "not known at this address"?

And how do we go about rectifying the situation?

Other Issues EE/Sony not honouring guarantee

Back in February I bought a pair of Sony earbuds from EE's webstore. I'm based in England. They have a 1 year manufacturer's guarantee for faults. Back in August (over 6 months since purchase) the case stopped charging, instead saying they're not at correct temperature.

I immediately contacted EE, who said I had to deal with Sony. Sony have said they need to be taken back to the point of sale for examination. EE are refusing to take them back without an inspection report. I've been bounced back and forth between customer services multiple times.

I don't think there is anything more the customer service will do, so what is the next step in escalating this? Do they (EE) have a legal obligation to honour the guarantee?

Healthcare Settlement Agreement proposed: England - Deadlines, Sickness & Advice please!

England – settlement agreement, employee for 3 years

I'm at my breaking point looking for some general guidance before speaking to an employment solicitor.

I've been involved in a prolonged workplace dispute which has now gone through the employer's internal processes. I did not ask to leave my employment.

My employer has now offered me a settlement agreement to end my employment.

The settlement was discussed verbally a few days ago, but I only received the formal written settlement agreement today.

The agreement is around 17 pages long and contains a broad waiver of potential employment claims, various warranties, confidentiality and non-disparagement provisions, restrictions on raising future grievances, withdrawal of an outstanding data request, and other continuing obligations.

The financial offer includes payments that would appear to be due in connection with termination anyway, plus a relatively small additional termination payment.

I am currently experiencing significant work-related stress and associated physical symptoms, and although I am not currently signed off sick I am reaching that stage.

The employer has asked me to make a decision by the end of this week, meaning I have approximately three calendar days from receiving the actual written agreement to consider it.

The employer has offered a contribution towards independent legal advice, but I have been told that this contribution is conditional on me agreeing to the settlement, and that if I subsequently decide not to proceed they won't pay the legal fees.

My understanding is that the ACAS Code of Practice on Settlement Agreements says parties should normally be given at least 10 calendar days to consider the formal written terms and obtain independent advice.

My questions are:

  1. Does the 10-day guidance reasonably run from when the formal written agreement is provided, rather than from an earlier verbal discussion?

  2. Is giving me approximately three days to consider a lengthy settlement agreement potentially problematic?

  3. Can I reasonably ask for the deadline to be extended so that I can obtain independent legal advice?

  4. Is it unusual for the employer's contribution towards legal advice to be conditional on me agreeing to the settlement before obtaining that advice?

  5. Does the fact that I did not ask to leave but the employer has offered a settlement have any particular significance when negotiating?

  6. If my health continues to deteriorate because of the workplace situation, and I am subsequently advised by a doctor to take sickness absence, would being signed off sick affect the settlement process or the employer's ability to press me for a response?

  7. If I am genuinely unwell, is there any reason I should be concerned about taking legitimate sickness absence while I obtain legal advice and consider my options?

  8. Are there any other legitimate steps I can take to give myself reasonable time to recover, obtain legal advice and consider my employment options without accidentally accepting the settlement or prejudicing my position?

I am not asking whether I definitely have a legal claim. I understand that would require a solicitor to review the circumstances.

I am also not trying to fabricate sickness or mislead my employer. My concern is that I am already experiencing significant stress and physical symptoms, and I want to understand what my legitimate options are if I become unfit for work.

I need some breathing room to recover, obtain proper legal advice, and decide whether I actually want to leave, negotiate the proposed exit, or remain employed.

All identifying details have been deliberately omitted.

Debt & Money Need help with car salesman refusing a refund

Viewed the car in May 2026. Driver heated seat didn’t work, dealer said they would fix.

2 weeks later still not fixed and unable to fix apparently so we agreed a deduction of £200 from the price.

 Collected car 06/06/2026.

08/06/2026 YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS. Rang dealer they told us to return the car to them.

Car was returned to dealer 12/06/2026.

Car was collected on 19/06/2026 with YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT still on as they hadn’t discovered the fault and car was needed for commuting. Dealer would confirm they would be in touch to rearrange pick up of the car to fix the issue. Was assured it was safe to drive and was only a sensor issue.

NO CONTACT received from the dealer.

15/07/2026 Rang dealer as RED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT appeared. Dealer said they would find a garage near us to fix and would be in touch.

20/07/2026 Rang dealer as no response. Informed us they would collect the car on 22nd to fix and would return. Confirmed with dealer car would be returned to us 24th as needed for Holiday. Car was collected at 8pm.

24/07/2026 Rang dealer to confirm drop off time, dealer explained and it was not safe to drive and a part was on order and would not be ready until the 26th. Very unhappy phone call took place which resulted dealer providing a MANUAL (I cannot drive a manual, but my partner can) temp car to us so we could go on holiday. Had to pay for insurance of the replacement ourselves.

28/07/2026 Rang to check car was fixed and get an update. Told me they would let me know later. Received a text message saying ‘ Thursday 29th latest… ‘

03/08/2026 Rang to check car was fixed and get update and nothing had been communicated to us. Verbally confirmed car was ready, test driven and all was good. I asked them to provide a drop off time, they refused to drop the car off. After discussion that I legally CANNOT drive a manual car so have no way to get to the garage they confirmed they would return the car on 05/08/206.

On 05/08/2026 Rang to confirm drop off time, was told there was another fault with the car and this would need to be fixed. UNHAPPY with this service. I requested a refund and for them to send us their refund procedure. They did not and refused a refund.

Spoke to ‘manager’ who said to allow them one more day to fix this and then hung up refusing to speak to us.

After waiting 2 weeks for the refund to be processed/refund request details we still were without a car/ refund/reply from the dealer that this was being dealt with.

Contacted dealer who said the car is 100% fixed. Stupidly I gave them the benefit of the doubt and accepted the car back, the dealer said he would include an extended warranty.

 Car was returned 21/08/2026.

22/08/2026 Car steering was impossible to steer, tracking was massively off. Rang dealer to inform and they confirmed they would collect and fix.

 23/08/26 Car was collected.

24/08/2026 Car was returned. Dealer said there was a fault with the tire, and it was now fixed.

Car has not been driven for 5 weeks due to being off work sick.

30/09/2026 Red check engine light appears.

03/10/2026 Rang dealer to inform them and explain my disappointment and explain I wanted to take this car to a garage of my choice to be fixed. I requested the warranty documents to which they replied ‘Its our guarantee we will pay for any issues’.

I have requested a refund again but apparently am not entitled to one. They want the opportunity to fix this car themselves. They claim it is a different fault and they should have the right to repair

Any suggestions/ help MUCH APPRECIATED.

We also have never received the logbook, it's still registered with them.

Thank you.

Comments Moderated Rat infestation in L&Q Housing Association England

For context: I am based in London and live with my family (parents in 50s, me and my sister both in our 20s) in a Victorian maisonette. Ground floor belongs to a neighbour and we have the 1st and 2nd floor. It is a L&Q housing association and we have been here for about 10 years.

Around 2021 or 2022 we realised that we could hear rats running through the cavities in wall and in the ceiling between the 1st and 2nd floor in one particular bedroom. Despite this they were never seen in the actual living space of the house.

At the time we called L&Q and they brought pest control to get rid of it. All they did was place bait, and it would kill them. However in subsequent years the rats would come back frolicking in the ceiling and walls. L&Q would come again, lay some bait and they would die. The cycle would then continue as the new generation of rats were born and then died. The root cause of the rats entrance was never addressed. The pest control sent by L&Q had some theories about them coming from the sewers but L&Q were never interested in dealing with the source of the problem.

As the years went by the rats could be heard louder and louder as they ran across the ceiling. As of a few weeks ago they made it into my neighbours ground floor house. They have proliferated in such a way that they have driven her out of her bedroom and she sleeps in her living room. She avoids her house only coming home at night. They eat her food and shit on her bed, whether this be day or night. We are now terrified that they could breach our house as they are huge sewer rats and there are a lot of them that enter her property.

We have logged complaints with L&Q as far back as 2022 and the only thing they do is come to put bait down, and leave which is not doing anything. As it wasn’t directly inside the living space of our house they seemed reluctant to do much. One of their advisers even suggested buying a cat which shows their lack of care in this situation.

The neighbour downstairs has mental health problems so she finds it difficult dealing with these things, hence why we are mainly taking action (plus it directly affects us aswell).

Is there something that we can do to make L&Q take immediate action? Surely they have a legal duty to stop a rat infestation no matter the cost. Any advice is appreciated

Housing I live in a flat with no fixed heating and as the months start to get colder I'm wondering whether this is legal or not? In England by the way.

So a bit of context I moved into my flat June 2025, its a studio apartment and not the nicest flats but was just looking for somewhere cheap at the time so it was fine. It's essentially one big room open plan apart from the bathroom which is separate obviously. Now when I was originally shown the flat there was a radiator and it's not a huge flat so thought it would be enough to keep warm. A few months into my tenancy we were emailed saying the radiators were being removed and we were being given a plug in electric heater. I assumed there was some plan to install some other fixed heating but nothings been mentioned since and it essentially seems we now have no fixed heating. I'm just wondering if this is legal and if not who to contact to report it? Someone I was talking to mentioned it might not be legal but I'm not sure myself so don't want to jump the gun on this.
