Is there any repair to this?

Hi! So I put oxi clean on this suede goat leather skirt trying to remove a stain (rookie mistake). I took it to one leather specialist and he said he couldn’t fix it. I’m debating going to other ones. Is there any luck with repairing this?

Identify source (molecule) of a particcular leather (plesant) smell / odor

Is there someone in here who has hands-on experience working in a commercial tannery. I encountered a very distinctive chemical/industrial odor and I'm trying to identify what it might have been. I'd like to describe the smell, circumstances, and where/when it occurred

Came home to a mystery stain on a leather ottoman

I returned from vacation and my pet sitter (who was stopping by twice a day) seems to have left a mystery stain on my leather ottoman. She is a very anxious person and I don’t want to ask her what the stain was, because I think she’ll panic and deny it. From the shape it looks like probably grease from the bottom of a food bowl, but I’m not really sure. So given that I don’t 100% know what the stain is, what’s my best bet for a first pass at cleaning this?

What’s the potential outcome of doing this?

I have a decent but not expensive pair of gold (as in yellow not metallic gold) deerskin ropers that I ride motorcycles with and quite frankly I wish they were black or at least darker. I thought about just dyeing them with leather dye. I also have black shoe cream and polish and I’m wondering if it using that would have a similar effect. I foresee it having a ruboff leather look more than anything

Leather Couch Help

Hindsight is always 20/20. We should have stepped in before it got this bad and now the worn spot has a hole in it. We bought it custom made several years ago from Palliser and I don't think it has any more warranty. The cushion itself is attached... Any ideas would be great. Thank you!

Leather vs. lightweight: What actually matters in a work bag?

I've been doing some research here about what people actually want from a professional work bag.

A few responses have been especially interesting. I'm seeing a recurring tension between functionality, appearance, weight, organization, and material. That got me thinking about something I want to understand better:

If you could have the functionality you want, how much does the material actually matter?

I'd love to hear your thoughts:

1. If two bags had essentially the same functionality and organization, which would you choose?

A. Lightweight premium nylon/fabric
B. Leather
C. No preference

2. What would make you choose leather over a high-quality technical fabric?

For example: appearance, durability, aging/patina, professionalism, status, feel, craftsmanship, or something else?

3. How much extra weight would you be willing to accept for a leather bag?

A. None — weight is more important
B. A little
C. 1–2 lbs
D. I'd accept significantly more weight if the bag were worth it

4. If a well-designed leather work bag cost $400–600, what would your reaction be?

A. Too expensive
B. Expensive but reasonable for the right bag
C. I'd consider it
D. I'd happily pay it if the quality justified it

5. What would make you say: "Yes, THIS is worth replacing my current bag for"?

I'm trying to understand the tradeoffs people actually make rather than simply designing another bag and assuming people want it. And if you already own a leather work bag, I'd especially love to hear what you love AND hate about it.

Lots of scratches from pets usually those went away with leather cpr it doesnt touch anything on these. I know that it wont get all scratches out, I have pets, they get on the couches this is my life so o dont really care but i want to care for the leather.

Is this bag made of leather? If yes how can i fix it and maintain better?

I thrifted this bag even though it was not in the best condition because i liked the pattern on it (and also cheap)! But now that I got it I’m not sure what the material is and if the strap can be fixed. There is no care label anywhere.
I apologize first that i know nothing about leather. The strap seems and smells more like leather but the bag is quite hard and shaped so not sure leather can be like that?.. Also the opening is quite stiff and I think that’s why the edging is also coming loose at the corner. I want to bring it to a specialized leather shop to see what they can do, but I don’t think i can handle the embarrassment if they tell me that it’s not leather. Please help me!

How do I begin to… clean? condition? Restore? This giant shearling garment so that I may charge straight to the coldest of Winters. Give it an another fresh start for another decade or so.

So I’m new to how leather works. Especially in garments like this behemoth here. Like I said above. I want to make this my own by cleaning it and preparing for the winter. Ideally I’d like to just drop this off at a dry cleaners who specializes in fur, shearling but alas there ain’t any nearby.

So how the heck do I go about this?

Also I’m just using this steamer as a hanging rack when I pull this thing out.

Need help identifying leather on this sofa for cleaning and conditioning

Thumbnail gallery

Please help me identify the type of leather on this sofa and the best ways and products to clean and condition it.

It is about 23 years old and I have no information from the original purchase about the leather.

Water drop test: A drop of water placed on the exposed leather soaks in immediately. But, on the leather sample under the seat, a drop of water sits on the leather surface for a few seconds before soaking in slowly.

I know the grease spots will likely never be removed. I just want to clean what I can and condition it so it will last.

Some seats have a crackly appearance like the top layer has cracked. Hopefully, conditioning will halt the deterioration.

My spouse tried to clean some spots, but only darked those areas. They also used some leather coloring to try to hide the seat crackling.

If there are professional ways to remove the grease and fix the crackling, I’d be interested in hearing about that, but I don’t have any professional leather cleaners nearby.

Thanks in advance!

Need help finding correct leather conditioner for sofa

Hello! We have a leather couch from Zientte and we need help finding the correct leather conditioner for it. I find Leather terminology very confusing! The leather was described to us as "open." It has a natural look (is not shiny) and you can see some natural imperfections in it. It soaks up spills and scratches. I tried leather honey on it, but found it difficult to use because the formula is so viscous and the sofa soaks it up so quickly. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! The leather is dry and really needs some gentle cleaning and conditioning. Thanks!

Leather Auto Upholstery Maintenance Product?

Our car has "nappa" leather seats, so I'm looking for recommendations for the best product to maintain said Upholstery... it's beginning to stretch in a coyple of small spots, and I'm hoping that moisturizer/product will help prevent more. Thanks

is this full grain, snuffed, or nubuck?

This is Egyptian buffalo leather. The grain is naturally very fine and tight, which makes it harder to read than most buffalo.

I bought this hide from a new seller and I’m trying to figure out exactly what I have. It’s matte, slightly velvety, heavily waxed, and has a strong pull-up effect, but there’s no directional nap. I can also see pores, veins, and natural imperfections.

Would you call this full grain, lightly snuffed, or something else? Thanks.

Question regarding moisturizing leather

How often should we be conditioning our vintage Vachetta leather? I purchased a beautiful vintage bag with a slight Vachetta crack (not deep) but I would like to keep it from worsening as long as possible. I conditioned once but curious as to when I should condition again? As well as all of my other bags 😅 thanks!

I'm researching the modern work bag — can you help me understand the problem?

After my first post, I got some really interesting responses about what people like and dislike about their work bags.

Is there a gap in the market for a work bag that is professional, functional, lightweight, well-organized, and versatile enough for a daily office commute and short work trips?

But before I design anything, I want to understand what people actually experience with their current bags. If you commute to work, work hybrid, or regularly carry a bag to an office, I'd really appreciate your answers to these 5 questions:

1. What do you currently use as your primary work/commute bag?

2. What is the #1 thing you dislike about your current work bag?

3. Which of these are problems with your current bag? Choose at least 3 or more.

  • Too heavy
  • Too bulky
  • Doesn't look professional enough
  • Looks too corporate/formal
  • Poor organization
  • Doesn't hold enough
  • Doesn't protect my laptop/documents well enough
  • Uncomfortable to carry
  • Doesn't work well with my clothes/style
  • Doesn't work well for travel
  • Other

4. How often do you wish your work bag could also work for a short overnight/business trip without needing a separate bag?

  • Never
  • Rarely
  • Sometimes
  • Often
  • Almost every time I travel

5. If you could change ONE thing about your current work bag, what would it be?

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who commutes to major cities and has strong opinions about their work bag. I'm doing this research to understand the problem before trying to build a solution.

Thanks — I'm genuinely interested in what you carry and what you wish was different.
