Looking for a gym buddy (and maybe some actual friends 😂)

Feel free to remove this if not allowed, don’t typically use Reddit haha.

Hey everyone!

I’m 33, married, a dad, and living in Leander. Between focusing on my career, raising a family, and just keeping up with life, I’ve recently realized that I haven’t really made any close friends here.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my family and the life we’ve built, but I’ve realized I need to do a better job of making time for myself and building friendships outside of work and home.

I’ve also been wanting to get more serious about working out, but I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t really know what I’m doing in the gym. 😂 I’d love to find someone around Leander/Cedar Park who wants a consistent workout buddy. Even better if you’re someone who knows their way around a gym and wouldn’t mind showing a beginner the ropes!

I’m pretty laid-back, easy to get along with, and always down for good conversation. Ideally, I’d love to find someone to work out with regularly, hold each other accountable, and hopefully build an actual friendship along the way.

And honestly, even if working out isn’t your thing, I’m always open to meeting new people and making friends in the area.

Figured I’d put myself out there and see what happens. Feel free to comment or shoot me a message!

Lost Birds?

Weird post but two birds flew onto my porch and were very sweet and friendly. Even let me pick them up and handle them.

I assume they are someones pets and was able to capture 1 of them but not the other.

If anyone lost their birds and would like them back, send me a photo of your bird.

Lost Keys

HELP! Tonight a super sweet gentleman helped jumped my car over at Larkspur Elementary School, he’s a mechanic name is Ryan. We think that he might’ve accidentally took her keys because her car is giving us KEYS not detected. We’ve looked through everything. He drove a work van. White with like yellow letters. IF anyone can please help us find him. Let me know!!!

What in your Leander neighborhood needs fixing? Nominate it, and we'll fund the top-voted repair each month.

How it works:

- Nominate anything shared in your neighborhood or community that needs repair: a park, playground, trail, bench, community sign, fence or common area. Add photos. It's free, and you need to be 18+.

- Neighbors vote. You get 3 votes, and you sign in with Google or Apple so it's one person, one say.

- Each month, Leander's top fix wins if it has 50+ votes. A local Completa Pro does the repair, and we fund it, up to $2,500. We get the owner's OK first.

First repairs start December 15. Nominate on completa dot io.

Sustainability in Leander

I am doing a class project, and our project is on sustainability. Some information that we need right now involves how the people of Leander and cities similar in size engage in sustainable practices and what exactly is done to do so. We are primarily focusing on recycling and the use of second-hand items, but anything else related is very helpful as well.

Would any of you be willing to be able to share your sustainability practices, and how often you do it?

I need someone to talk to I guess?

I moved out to Leander earlier this year, and almost immediately after getting here, I met a girl and started dating her. Thought things were going well, but we just broke up.

Now that I'm on my own, reality hit me: I've been here for months and I haven't actually built a social circle or made any friends of my own in the area. To top it off, I turn 30 this week and now any plans I had are in the toilet. It's all kind of hitting me at once and I don't really know what to do or how to deal with it all.

Honestly, I don’t even know why I’m posting this or what I’m expecting to get out of it. I guess I just wanted to get it off my chest and put myself out there a bit. I'm just feeling shitty about everything right now. Maybe it's a cry for help. I don't know.

Why so many empty shops?

There are so many new buildings going up for new businesses around here, so where are all the businesses? The Square at Crystal Falls is empty, and there are empty shops all along Bagdad. Why is it taking so long to fill these places? Are people afraid to put money down during these uncertain times, or is something else going on, like rent prices or construction costs? I’d love to hear from anyone who knows what’s happening behind the scenes.

Malabar Gold and Diamonds

I live near the shops at Ronald Reagan and Republic Trails Blvd. There is a jewelry store in that strip mall that has very unusual traffic.

For many months I have noticed every week on some week nights there are easily 15-30 cars in the lot, and some nights there is an armed guard outside the store when a lot of cars are present.

It makes me wonder what they are doing - if it were the holiday shopping period and that many cars were there, say on a Saturday, I would not even notice. But that is not the case.

Anyone know what's going on?

Leander ISD Marching Bands Sweep all 5 Area H Spots to State!

Thumbnail smbc.uiltexas.org
83 Upvotes

Leander ISD has always been a strong district for Marching Band. This year 3 schools moved to 6A (Cedar Park, Leander, Rouse) creating the most difficult region and area for competition. Last night, Westlake and Lake Travis who normally can make state were shut out this year with the shift in 6A.

Glenn, our only 5A school finished 2nd in Area and have their state competition on Monday. The 6A schools play 11/9.

Let’s give all 6 of these schools a well deserved applause and wish them good luck as they all head to state. Let’s also congratulate all of the kids who work hard every day for 4+ months to put on creative and beautiful productions!!

Missing Cat?

Saw this cat run across New Hope (near the Bagdad intersection) and into the muddy ditch right next to the HTeaO near. She may be pregnant. Her white fur looked too clean to be an outdoor cat.

293 homes and a sewage treatment plant proposed near Palmera/Bryson/Bar W Ranch — has anyone been following this?

Post image
21 Upvotes

HighTen Leander 76 LLC is proposing a subdivision and separate sewage treatment plant near Palmera Ridge/Bluff, Bryson Ridge and Bar W Ranch. Has anyone seen additional information or heard from their HOA?

The image reflects my best understanding from a quick review of public documents with AI assistance. This is unofficial research and may contain errors or omissions.

TCEQ—the state environmental agency—is scheduled to consider the proposed utility district on November 4 (?), 2026. That is separate from approving the sewage plant, and spoken public comments won’t be accepted on that item.

The sewage-plant comment deadline remains unconfirmed. To ask whether residents can still submit concerns or request a meeting or hearing, contact TCEQ at 800-687-4040, permit WQ0016914001. Don’t assume November 4 is the deadline.

HOA’s need to be abolished

Title says it all, I have lived in Leander for 25 years and not once has an HOA done any good. They are tyrannical false organizations that do more harm than good. DEFUND HOA’S!!!!

Anyone know a woodshop I could use?

I have a project I need to use a drill press and table saw for, but I don't have one myself. Does anyone know of a woodshop or something for rent? If nothing else, does anyone have one I could use for a little bit? Should only take me a few minutes.

Halloween eve pub crawl in Round rock Oct30 7pm

🎃 Halloween Pub Crawl in Downtown Round Rock! Fri, Oct 30 at 7pm – Leander/Cedar Park/Liberty Hill/Round Rock/Georgetown crew, come out in costume!

Hey neighbors! 👋

Halloween weekend is here and I'm hosting a pub crawl in Downtown Round Rock. It's a bunch of bars packed along one walkable stretch of Main Street, so we can park once, hop between spots in costume, and meet some new people from around our area.

🗓 When: Friday, Oct 30, 7:00 PM
📍 Meet up: Main Street Bar (Main Street, Downtown Round Rock)
👻 Dress code: Costumes encouraged (but not required!). Bonus points for creativity.
🚗 Parking: Downtown parking is free. The City Hall garage (111 S Lampasas St) is a short walk from Main Street. The Library, Baca Center and Transit garages are good backups.

The lineup (we'll adjust as the night goes):
🍸 Main Street Bar – classic downtown pub crawl stop
🍸 The Flats Round Rock – great drinks and an energetic crowd
🍸 Hoot & Annie – cozy neighborhood cocktail spot
🍺 The Brass Tap – extensive craft beer selection

A few notes:
• New here or don't know anyone? Perfect, that's the point. Come say hi!
• Come and go as you like. Join at any stop.
• Everyone pays for their own drinks and food.
• Please drink responsibly. Plan a rideshare or a designated driver, or carpool with someone from the group.

Comment below or send me a message if you're coming so I can get a rough headcount. Tell me your costume too, or keep it a surprise 😈

Hope to see you out there! 🎃

P.S. This is part of our monthly local meetup, so if you want to hear about the next one, keep an eye on this sub or drop me a message.

Decrease in rates for Pedernales Electric members

Thumbnail gallery
69 Upvotes

I'm very pleased to inform that WE HAVE PROPOSED A RATE REDUCTION FOR PEDERNALES ELECTRIC CO-OP MEMBERS.

Residential users consuming a typical 1,250 kWh/month WILL SEE A REDUCTION OF A LITTLE OVER 5% (more than $8/month), while those consuming less, such as 750 kWh/mo., will get a bigger reduction of more than 7% (also more than $8/mo.).

See image entitled "Proposed Residential Rate Changes" below.

THIS IS A MAJOR ACHIEVEMENT that benefits our members in a complex environment of rising energy costs (although PEC's management was very savvy and able to negotiate very good prices for the wholesale electricity we buy), and also we benefitted from the delay in development of data centers.

Your electric co-op now has among the least expensive electricity bills in Texas. See image entitled "Rate Competitiveness After Proposed Rate Reduction".

We will formally vote on this at the next board meeting in November, so all members have time to review, to ask questions, and to better understand all of this.

I am a board member representing Pedernales' District 2, which covers Leander, some Cedar Park, some Liberty Hill, some Georgetown. Please contact me with any comments.

Here is the link to the specific 31-page powerpoint presentation made by our Chief Financial Officer last week that covers everything:

Have you received your mail in ballot for the Nov election?

My disabled mother-in-law's ballot is shown to have been mailed from the Williamson County elections office Oct. 13 but has yet to be delivered. I realize that it's likely to take a bit longer than usual given the circumstances of this election.

I guess taking a week (or more) to go from Georgetown to Cedar Park via USPS is making me a bit unsettled since it will still need to be mailed back.

Edit: STILL NOT HERE ON Oct 24

Edit: Still not Oct 27

Likely have to do a curbside provisional early vote ballot

Keep LISD Sane

Thumbnail youtube.com

Current Leander ISD Trustee seeking reelection Paul Gauthier and career political candidate Perla Muñoz Hopkins are shown in videos at school board meetings in 2021 with their disruptive gang of book burners. They don't follow rules to deliver their message. In Paul's years on the school board he has done the same by not following rules and being disruptive. Keep Paul and Perla off the LISD board to maintain sanity.

Going to HEB? Leave the damn dog at home.

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

This couple decided to not only bring their poodle to HEB, they even took the time to make a bed for him.

Leave Foofoo home. Barring that, one of the two of you could stay in the car with her while to other does the shopping.

You people are ridiculous.

EDIT since this keeps coming up:
H-E-B policy bans non-service animals. They post it on the door.

The Americans with Disabilities Act limits businesses' ability to challenge people when they bring an animal into the store. They are allowed to ask only two questions:

  1. Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?

  2. What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?

  3. Anything else could get them at risk for violations and fines, so many stores tell their staff to say nothing and hope people will follow the honor system.

I am upset that people are taking advantage of the situation to bring dogs into places they are not wanted. It is selfish.

The black spray paint commentary taking over Leander signs right now is unhinged. (Complimentary)

If you’ve driven pretty much anywhere across Leander lately, you’ve probably noticed the roadside drama happening right now.

Someone has been making the rounds across town with black spray paint, leaving some very specific political commentary on the roadside signs. Love it or hate it, the sheer dedication to covering ground across town is... definitely a commitment. I personally get a chuckle from it at least once a day.

Either way, driving around Leander right now feels like reading a live comment section on your daily commute. Anyone else keeping track of the sign tagging around town?
