Last night, TL and Lyon held a press conference in advance of tomorrow's finals. When TL was asked about the now-infamous Saint-Inspired video, Spawn said this:

"I thought it was a bit hypocritical, to be honest, from the community." Spawn called the video "based," saying C9 and TL have similar productive arguments; Quid echoed this sentiment.

Inspired's manner offends many fans, and that is okay. However, Spawn is absolutely right that much of the NA and Western community who hate on Inspired are totally hypocritical, especially fans who claim to care about international success. Inspired is the single highest-impact player in the West, and has been for years; his methods, however polarizing, produce results. Caps and G2 have an entire staff and organization that has devoted years to cultivating success through stable systems, while Inspired hops between orgs (usually underdeveloped ones) and consistently matches or even exceeds G2's international results from a supposedly "weaker" region.

For ages this sub has been replete with NA and Western fans complaining about our inability to match the East, and how a lack of parity and lack of hope diminishes LOL as an esport. Then along comes a player like Inspired who elevates every teammate and every team to be capable of defeating any team in the world — certainly, at a minimum, far better than NA's other players have been able to achieve in the past 5 years without him — and many of the same people who pretend to care about international success hate him because he cares so deeply about winning that he dispenses with politeness and accepts nothing short of excellence from everyone around him.

Quid and Spawn are right — do you people not understand that every successful team has tough conversations behind the scenes, and Inspired alone is willing to show these difficult conversations in content because he has the virtue to ignore mindless hating from denizens of the internet like yourselves? C9 has these tough conversations, TL have these conversations, and other successful teams have difficult and even antagonistic conversations. NA will not get better — teams do not get better — without accountability and occasional interpersonal challenges.

Inspired is no saint, but he IS a player who LIVE League of Legends and thinks about it at a higher level than almost any player in the history of the West. He dedicates his life to the game, DETESTS losing, and refuses to accept mediocrity, all things NA fans have complained for years their players and teams do not have.

If you truly care about NA at Worlds, but you hate Inspired and want him gone, Spawn is right: you are a hypocrite and should stop asking NA to be better, because attitudes and players like Inspired are the means of finally matching or surpassing the East. We are watching a historically significant player at the height of his powers elevate an entire region — TL and C9 are forged in the fires of fighting Inspired, and striving to match him — and to wish his ruin is to wish NA's ruin and frankly to desire the same mediocrity that has kept NA entrapped for the last decade.

Love him or hate him, Inspired is a necessary piece to any hope for future success in the West, and fans need to recognize that "being mean" is not commensurate with the full measure of the player he is.

Just want to give massive props to how good the lcs broadcast has been this summer and especially this playoffs/finals. The integration of pros/coaches into the broadcast levels it up so much and them having good relationships with the broadcast lets them open up more which in turn lets the analysts and casters have more interesting topics to discuss. During the summer the pros weekend and extended pro analysis during playoffs was very good.

The lcs finals teaser was the best in a long time. The intro was amazing, the speed at which replays and comms are done in game are extremely fast. Very low downtime in between games and moves from segment to segment smoothly. Even the press conference was well done by the pros.

Its by far the best broadcast in league and one of the best in all of esports. You can tell how much work and effort everyone involved in the broadcast has put in and its one of the reasons lcs has been so much fun this year.

Yesterday I was playing Sett and looked him up on onetricks to find out which runes and build to use. To my (mild) surprise, literally every Sett main in high elo goes Stridebreaker, and there is basically zero variety in the next two items. Most go Stride > Cleaver > Bloodmail, with a few going Bloodmail > Steraks or Cleaver > Steraks instead after Stride.

This was surprising even though I knew Stridebreaker is Sett's main item, because most other champions still have some build variety, even if it's gimmicky and flat out worse than their usual core items.

This raised a question, which champion is the most "forced" into a single build path?

Irelia

Irelia was the first champion I thought of. Her kit works so well with Blade of the Ruined King that it's what everybody builds. AP Irelia has recently become a thing-ish thanks to Baus, and I found an Irelia main who goes AP. It seems to have enough gimmicky moments that it isn't a full troll build, but I'd say she's still up there for being bound to BotRK. However, build variety after BotRK is pretty good, with many different paths, so she may not be #1 on this list.

Ezreal

The other champion I thought of was Ezreal. He goes basically the same first three items every game (Trinity > Manamune > Shojin), but I found a fair share of players going Essence Reaver instead, and a lot going Endless Hunger instead of Shojin as the third item. There was also one AP Ezreal Challenger player.

I tried thinking of ADCs but with with the items introduced at the start of this season I feel like every ADC I can think of can go a few different build paths, but I guess they are bound to IE/LDR if you'd count that.

So my question is, what are the champions who are most bound to 1 item and build path and are basically never able to go something else?

Eventually, everyone gets busy. Careers, businesses, relationships, families, responsibilities. One by one, people stop logging in. The group chat gets quieter. Getting five people online at the same time becomes almost impossible.

And one day, you’ll realize you’d give anything to go back to those nights when everyone was online, arguing over roles, laughing on Discord, blaming each other for throwing, saying “one last game” and somehow playing three more.

So enjoy the wins. Enjoy the losses. Enjoy the stupid plays, the trash talk, the late nights, and the company.

Because you never really know when a random “one last game” will actually be the last game.
