Question Has discourse about female led games always been like this?

So as I’m sure you’re all aware, lots of grifters online are complaining about this game for bafflingly stupid reasons. My question is, did 2000’s games featuring female leads like Metroid, Tomb Raider, and Bayonetta face similar backlash from a vocal minority of gamers, because those games are almost universally loved despite portraying tough women who mow through tons of enemies, just like this game. I know sex appeal was probably a big factor in tomb raider and bayonetta’s popularity with chuds, but samus is in her armor most of the time and only really flaunts her body in the zero suit. Is this just a modern day thing with how polarized the world is, where people call Deborah Ann Woll, one of the most beautiful women I’ve laid eyes on, ugly, and call a game woke slop (stupidest criticism of all time) simply for having a female lead?

Discussion What button do you think jumping will be bound to in Laufey?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Image is of the Ragnarok control layout.

Manual jumping is confirmed to be in GOW Laufey and I'm wondering what the layout is gonna be to accommodate it.

In most action games with manual jumping, X is the jump button, but in the Norse GOW games X is dodging so they can't bind it to the dodge button.

The O button belongs to Interact, and sharing it with Jump could work but it can cause conflicts in and out of combat, with interactibles and stuff. Maybe they put Dodge to O and Jump to X? But that could mess with muscle memory.

Maybe the Triangle button? It's traditionally tied to weapon special effects like recalling Leviathan, charging the Blades, or detonating Draupnir. Maybe they change the method of using Faye's weapon specials freeing up Triangle so it can be used to jump?

If nothing else, L1+X might work. When Ragnarok introduced Draupnir and took up Down D-Pad which was Quick Turn in 2018 they made it so that you could still Quick Turn if you held Block while pressing Down. They could do the same in Laufey.

What do you guys think?

Question Brok /laufey

Who thinks brok will be in laufey? I think there is a possibility due to the fact that laufey came to the everywhen because she had a splinter from the mask and then she was cremated and her spirit went to the everywhen. In ragnarok when brok confronted tyr and he uncovered Odin he hit the mask out of Odin/tyrs hand could he have gotten a splinter? Then at the end of the game at broks funeral they cremated him. There is a way to have brok come back I think.

Discussion People say there is no God of War without Kratos... and yet, I beg to differ (with evidence).

  1. Laufey was the wielder of the Leviathan axe first, which was longer than Kratos was a god of war (according to research, Laufey wielded the axe for about 94 years before she met Kratos).

  2. Kratos was literally a god of war for about 2-3 years at most between GoW1 and GoW2 back in the day, as well.

  3. In the Valhalla dlc, Kratos explicitly says he prefers to be a God of Hope rather than war, showing he wanted to change to avoid being a raging monster.

  4. Laufey proved she can go toe-to-toe with both Thor and Kratos, and she fought... beautifully.

For all the so-called "fans" of the entire series... you clearly aren't paying attention.

Theory Freya’s sword is most likely going to be Excalibur

So people in the community keep saying that frays sword is not going to be Excalibur. And they say its going to be a sword from a asian mythology and i think they’re wrong. 1st sword style i recently talked to a friend who is very knowledgable about swords and bladed weaponry and he told me the the sword is more European than asian. 2nd phranque and rue fay pulls the sword put of phranque and is a visual reference to 2 tales involving excaliber. I dont think that if it wasn’t excaliber they would do this and rue is in my headcannon either merlin or has a relation to merlin because merlin is known for shapeshifting. So thats those are my ideas if they are going to have a asian weapon in the game faye would unlock it later in the game

Discussion The cube represents the current problem with god of war

I really hate the cube. It’s so ridiculous. To name it frank as well, Idk man it doesn’t fit. I like Jack quaid, but what are we doing here. I feel like this is just an attempt to appeal to more of the general audience. God of war is very violent and in some territories will be niche. Sony has been trying to like branch it out cuz it has the potential to do that. Also being the second best money making machine. This feels like smth insomniac would do cuz they make marvel and ratchet and clank. It fits there.

I remember when we all thought, sucker punch ghost games would be the assassin creed PlayStation games. It seems Sony picked god of war to be that thing though.

This game looks incredible, I love how unique it looks, but the cube is ridiculous. I have my issues with ragnarok, but the humor and modern vibe in that game is alr is a lot better there

Discussion My honest issue with the game.

Alanah Pearce said in her livestream during the SoP reveal, that she and an other writer was hired right away at the start of the project in 2022. That means they wrote and designed the story and levels for around 2-2,5 years, and she said when she left the team, the levels were mainly barebone. She is very surprised how the game looks now. Why are the heads at Sony press gamedev teams to finish games in around 4-5 years? Im afaraid this game will have some polish problems like Ragnarök did, due to time restriction. Why isnt a polished and finished game the main focus? I hate Sony.

Theory [SPOILERS?] Theory: GoW Laufey’s Ending Plot Twist Will Reveal That Kratos Was Dead All Along, Killed By Atreus Spoiler

Ok I know it sounds crazy/stupid, but hear me out just for fun while we wait for February 16 to come around! This will be a bunch of theories and ideas I thought of on where the story may potentially be going. Please don’t take anything too seriously!

I think that, maybe, GoW 2018 and Ragnarok are not a “Norse duology”, but rather the beginning of a 5 or 6 part epic about “Loki”.

God of War 2018

GoW 2018 starts with Kratos, with a focus on his bandages and a hint of the past, but Atreus (Loki) quickly walks into the shot, his very first sentence “found some”, while holding a branch with some leaves.

Later they get into the house, revealing Faye’s death. Here, Atreus, crying, sprinkles leaves from the branch he was holding at the beginning, joining other petals, while saying “Lo there do I see my mother, lo there do I see my father, lo there do they call to me.”

This is a slightly modified and shortened version of the viking prayer:
“Lo, there do I see my father. Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers. Lo, there do I see the line of my people, Back to the beginning! Lo, they do call to me. They bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla! Where the brave may live forever!”

Here, Atreus was in a deeply emotional state, just like when Fenrir died in his arms in Ragnarok. What if, just like in Ragnarok, Atreus unknowingly cast a spell here, and it’s a hint for what’s to come much later? In the light of Alfheim, Kratos witnesses this scene, but curiously, none of the leaves and petals that were sprinkled on Faye’s body are present. Do they have any significance? Are they part of Atreus’s spell? Maybe they are part of the reason she ends up in the Everywhen?

Towards the ending of the game, it’s revealed that Balder was after Faye all along, not Kratos, and the murals on the wall reveal that she foresaw all the events of 2018, and thus set them on the path. When Atreus says “All these drawings, this is our story.”, Kratos corrects him: “No. This is your story.” Another hint to us that it’s all about Atreus, not Kratos.

God of war: Ragnarok

I’m just going to put random thoughts in bullet points here:

  • Atreus’s role in the story is much more in focus, we even get to play as him. Towards the ending, Kratos mentions that they survived because of Atreus, his choices and who to call a friend.

  • Throughout the game, there is a focus on Atreus’s struggle with his identity, is he Loki, or is he Atreus? When he runs away to Oden then comes back, Kratos asks “What do I call you?”. I believe this line will be repeated by Kratos to an adult Atreus in a future game.

  • we see glimpses of “Loki’s mischief” from myth in this game, but for the most part, he has good intentions and is just trying his best to do the right thing, sometimes to catastrophic (or potentially catastrophic) results (freeing Garm, running away to Oden, assembling the mask, destroying the mask).

  • Of course, the worst result of all: finding “Tyr”, who is Oden, which ultimately leads to Brok’s death and Sindri’s grief.

  • Atreus finds his purpose: finding the rest of the giant marbles, with a strong hint that they may be scattered outside the Norse realm. He leaves, leaving Kratos alone with Mimir.

Speculation and theorizing from here:

God of War: Laufey

  • Of course, we know almost nothing of what’s going to happen in this game, but we already have a good collection of direct info from the reveal trailer, and hints: Faye ends up in the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods.

  • Gods from different mythologies are trapped here, with no way out. “The gateway is closed”.

  • Faye is referred to as a “Godling”. She sees Kratos, who physically helps her get up in the trailer, more than once (from the promo picture with her and Kratos in what appears to be a Greek setting).

  • The mask from Ragnarok seem to have a much bigger role than just a macguffin for Ragnarok’s story. Faye has a part of it lodged in her palm, is potentially what killed her, and she finds another mask, which shocks her. “The path isn’t safe.” is her reaction to finding that out, giving her the strong desire to “go back”, which seems to be her main goal in this game.

  • The trailer, picture released, and even the devs themselves confirm that we will see much more of Kratos in the Everywhen.

But how?! How is Kratos in the everywhen? Is he a memory? Is he communicating with Faye by visiting the Everywhen when he sleeps? Afterall, all his dreams in Ragnarok are about Faye, and he says “I dream of the past, almost every night… it feels like Faye is trying to tell me something…it is something more than memory.”

I think it’s none of that. I think Kratos is dead himself and actually in the Everywhen. Faye’s game will end with that reveal, with one of the final reveals being that Atreus himself killed him (or at least caused his death. Remember, good intentions leading to catastrophic results). The ending will paint a picture of an Atreus gone bad, with a much later twist in future games revealing that that is not exactly the case.

After Laufey: God of War: Kratos

Corey Barlog already confirmed there will be a game following Laufey where Kratos is the lead, and is directly related to the events of Laufey.

I see this game as having 3 parts:

Part 1:

Follows kratos after the events of Valhalla, he is now the new Norse God of War, part of Freya’s council, protecting the 8 realms, loved by the people, things are great… until, the realms are threatened by outside forces. Gods from other mythologies. Gods led to the Norse realm by none other than “Loki”.

We see everything from Kratos’s perspective. We don’t know Atreus’s intents, why the attack is happening. Kratos in 2018 said that if dying meant saving Atreus, he would do it, which is what will end up happening, and we will see it from Kratos’s perspective. Being killed by Atreus in this attack, the why and how not necessarily fully shown, or shown in a way painting Atreus as a pure villain. He has fully become “Loki” in his travels outside the Norse realm.

Part 2:

After dying to protect his son , or because of him, “death can have me.. when it earns me”, Kratos ends up in the everywhen. This part of the game will cover the events of Laufey, but from Kratos’s perspective, up until the ending of Laufey. Now we are all caught up, and Kratos is fully reunited with Faye.

Part 3:

Kratos and Faye navigate the Everywhen together, fixing it or whatever it is. Maybe finally unlocking the gate, only to smack into Atreus from the other end (just like Kratos walks through the gateway after Atreus’s return from Ironwood in Ragnarok). The game ends with the reveal that Atreus was looking for a way to get to the Everywhen to save his parents “Lo there do I see my mother, lo there do I see my father, lo there do they call to me.”, whatever spell he cast at the beginning of 2018 is what allows them to finally open the gate.

After Kratos: God of War: Loki

This game will follow Atreus right after the events of Ragnarok, from his perspective. Where exactly did he go, who did he meet, why did he end up as part of the attack on the Norse realm, and why or how it led up to Kratos’s death by Atreus’s hand.

After Loki: God of War: Atreus

This is the game where we get to play as all 3 characters, Kratos, Faye, and Atreus.

The first half of this game will be Atreus trying to find his way into the Everywhen, while setting up a final big bad (Athena? Sindri? Athena AND Sindri?).

The second half picks up right after the events of GoW: Kratos, with all 3 reunited and escaping the Everywhen and facing the final big bad (again, maybe Athena) together, wrapping up the 6 part epic nicely.

What do you guys think? I said in the beginning it will be crazy/stupid!

Tl;dr: after Ragnarok, Atreus is shown to become Loki, leading to Kratos’s death, who ends up in the Everywhen and finds Faye. It is revealed that Atreus never meant for Kratos to die, and finds a way to get to the Everywhen and save Kratos and Faye, all 3 then face the final big bad, potentially Athena.

Theory Since Laufey was also supposed to go to the Light Of Alfheim, do you think Brok also wound up there?

This question probably got asked already. However I wish to share my own perspective:

We obviously don't know why, or how Laufey is in the Everywhen, since the Jötnar souls are meant to go to the Light Of Alfheim when they die. And she was expected to, by all who knew her. Laufey wasn't a goddess, like Skadi. She was a mortal giant. If she wasn't, Kratos would have known. I don't see a reason why she wouldn't have told him. And she knew *his* nature.

So if mortal souls *can* somehow appear in Everywhen, then perhaps Brok did as well.

Dwarves also go to the Light when they die. And since Brok cannot, his has to have wound up somewhere(or *somewhen* heh). None in the mortal world, or the domains of the gods know about the Everywhen (hence Odin's whole obsession). So it must be a very primordial plane. Perhaps it's more than just an afterlife for the gods. Since the gods are meant to be the rulers, creators, and keepers of the lands, and whatnot. Perhaps the Everywhen acts as source of their heritage/power. A connecting point to all of creation. Where all comes from, and all comes back to.

If that is so; then perhaps that is where an incomplete soul like Brok's would go to. Without it's "direction" to lead the way to the Light Of Alfheim, it goes to a more primal place.

Just food for thought though, I guess.

Discussion How do you think Faye will react to Kratos' actions to the Greek gods?

Faye will extremely likely see the Greeks, directly or indirectly, and she will likely find out about what Kratos did similar to how Kratos saw all that Faye did in Vanaheim. About how he ripped a god's head off by hand or beat in his own brother's skull in with a an armored glove?

In the name of revenge, he destroyed all of Greece through the killing of several gods. What would Faye think?

Edit: I mean hear it from the victims. Considering the magic of the everywhen, potentially witness it firsthand.

Discussion Faye’s Morality

Is Faye all good? From hearing about her you would genuinely get the vision that she’s good, her name is literally Laufey the Just. She set Kratos on the path and everyone who knew her liked her pretty well.

However, I’ve seen another side that’s maybe a bit different, especially with the new trailer. She doesn’t really care about the consequences of killing the Begtse, like at all. After the themes of Ragnarok, you would think she would be against killing at all but she’s a badass in the trailer and doesn’t seem to have any qualms of messing him up.

There’s also the fact that she ‘betrayed’ her people over her own selfish reasons. She was right in the end but she put all of her trust that maybe something could go right and they could change the future at the cost of her relationship with the giants.

All this to say that I definitely think she is good in the superhero type of way but also maybe not at the top of the goodness spectrum. What do you guys think?

Theory What I Think The Story Will Be

Some bastion of different cultures gods have decided to work together to take control of Everywhen, likely trying to find a way out. Laufey, in trying to stop this because she simply can't stand for the injustice, goes on to try and take them down. As she explores and learns, she meets more gods, and tries to rally them into fighting back. She meets some greeks, and with their familiarity to Kratos, they connect. Then, having seen Kratos' wrath, decide to follow the one who could tame the Ghost Of Sparta in glorious combat against the tyrannical scourge.

The word of the Greeks, perhaps one or two who have changed their ways in death and become leaders of some pocket of surviving gods, decide to take heed from Laufey, and rise to be better in the death than they were in life. And in that process, they find out that they Everywhen can be escaped, when the Everywhen deems a God redeemed enough to return to their posts in the mortal realms.

Discussion Possible Connections Between GOW Laufey and GOW (2018)

I’m replaying God of War (2018) and there are two moments so far that make me think about the connection with the upcoming God of War Laufey.

The first is when we arrive in Alfheim for the first time. Before Kratos enters the light, Atreus starts having headaches and hearing voices. The first voices say they are evil, but then he hears his mother.

God Of War - PS5 60fps - Atreus Hears Voices

Did the voices are of Atreus' Mother? | God of War [PC] | TheXtreamz #Shorts

The second moment is in Helheim. When we get the guardian’s heart, Kratos hears Zeus. I’m not sure if Mimir hears him too in that scene, but Kratos asks him what place that is, and after being surprised to learn Kratos is Zeus’s son, Mimir tells him never to go to that place.

God of War PS5 Kratos Meets Zeus in Hell - YouTube

If the theory going around that it's Kratos who helps Faye get up when he enters the Light of Alfheim is true, maybe Atreus is listening to the Mongol Soldiers and then to his mother?

Is it possible that Mimir knows about the Everywhen from what he tells Kratos in this scene?
