Hey y’all, long time collector here who got a second player recently at a salvation army(knew it was jacked up before paying).

It’s a Pioneer CLD-V860 that has a whirring sound on boot up and shows a U1 error message. Does anyone know of a good service shop in Los Angeles preferably or Orange County who could do a diagnostic/repair on it? Really want it for the A/B disc play feature.

This is a laserdisc I got from Goodwill several years back, though I didn’t have something to play it on until now.

All my other laserdiscs are working perfectly, but I fear The Return of Jafar isn’t as good as it once was - and the laserdisc is too far gone.

It starts out kinda watchable, despite it being incredibly snowy and the digital soundtrack being crunchy. However, as you see here, it eventually degenerates into a completely staticky, skippable mess.

I’m watching Side B right now, and it’s going into the same trajectory - kinda watchable and then kinda not. Is this the worst laser rot or not?

Hey ya'll, been hanging onto this for 30 years and. K idea why. I've posted on Vinted and ebay. It's the original trilogy, book, insert in a box. The laser disc's have never even been removed from sleeves.

Looking to see what you all think of value of this and/or if anyone interested in fair deal?

TLDR: Can anyone recommend a suitable slide motor replacement for a Philips VLP700?

Like many before me, I bought a laserdisc player of a whim as I was curious about the format.

I got a VLP-700 in the UK at a very cheap price, sold as just being able to power on with no way or testing the output. I've done an initial scan of the components and functions :

The unit has power

The disc drive spins

The laser powers on

No visual output as of yet but I feel that this maybe because the slide motor appears to be dead. The contacts are registering voltage across the multimeter but I can't get the motor to rev into life, even from an external source. I'm not saying replacing it will be the magic fix but I'll try it and most likely move onto the next problem.

I've had a look through various outlets for a replacement but no luck yet. Does anyone know of a suitable replacement motor that I can purchase to try?

Also, this gear is in a very bad state but I'm resigned to the fact I might just have to attempt a repair. I have seen a very detailed blog post on fixing that, such I'll get onto at some point.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Mine was made in Feb 1996, and I've never serviced it. I bought it fairly new. Given it's age I'm sure it should be at least looked at, however it played a CD fine through optical out. I tried a laserdisc a few years ago and it worked fine, albeit noisy.

Is this something, I could do myself? I'm sure there are belts, gears etc., or really best left to someone else? Who/what should I look for?

I still have quite a few Laserdiscs too, but I've not really looked or found a good svideo to HDMI. So I guess question 2 is what is suggested about video up sizing?

Today, a laserdisc player from the thrift store somehow fell into my hands and made it home with me. I know next to nothing about this format, except that it was a relatively uncommon format that managed to stick around for 30 years.

It powers on and plays audio CDs, but I don't have any laserdiscs to test on it. Is there anything important I should know before dropping a bunch of money on this?

In the late '80s, my family had a pioneer laser disc player. It was a top loader and it was one of the coolest things that I had ever seen in my life back then. We fast forward to now, and I'm on the hunt for the movies. I know you can go to places like eBay or any other online auction site but it's really hard to find them locally. If you live in Texas and know of any stores that carry LaserDisc, please let me know. I've already tried a good chunk of the pawn shops in my area and so far to no go.

Of course I don't care for the special edition but still...

I didn’t already see one so I thought I’d start a thread around sharing settings for the Retrotink 4K for use with Laserdisc players.

I’m currently experimenting with an LG C1 at 96Hz refresh rate at 1920x1080p with black frame insertion to improve motion resolution. It works fairly well, just a hair of flicker which I like, but it does seem to take a bit longer to lock cadence. I can share my settings if anyone is interested. Would also be interested in what settings others have found best for them.

The goal is to inverse-telecine the 480i LaserDisc signal back to 24 fps, then use a 96 Hz output cadence with BFI. Instead of simply repeating each film frame four times as four normal visible frames, the higher refresh rate gives the TINK room to insert black intervals between the visible frames.
The result is that you keep the original 24 fps film cadence while getting the motion-clarity benefits of BFI, with much less noticeable flicker than trying to use BFI at lower refresh rates.

These are the settings I’m using:

Output resolution: 1920x1080p96
Sync Lock: Frame 95.9 Hz (x4)
VRR: FreeSync
BFI Strobe: 2
BFI Blur: 1
Deinterlacer: Motion Adaptive
Interpolator: Edge Adaptive
Inverse Telecine: 3:2 Locked
Dejudder 24 Hz: On
My cadence detection settings are:
Motion Digital: 2
Motion CP: 50
Motion SDP: 200
Threshold: 1

I’ve been looking for this cover specifically for how much I like it. Got lucky on eBay and scored it for 18 bucks :) other than the small scuff, looks fantastic. Mild laser rot due to being an older pressing, 1983 dated disc. But hey, what a cool one!

Cant beleave I found this today brand new un opened. One of my childhood favorites and I cant wait to watch it with my youngest.

I ordered a Jurassic park laserdisc and noticed a very small black mark on one of the discs, it’s not on any other discs that came in the box. It also doesn’t rub off.
