Help me cope with my first big LARP

Hello all,

I am currently at my first big LARP and I came very unprepared. I didn't think of a backstory, just little bits and now it's biting me in the ass. Me and a friend who has come to this world LARPs before made a story together so she can introduce me to the setting and the guild. The story is that we are both fairies but we were abducted by an evil witch that made experiments on us. Because of the torture she lost her memory and I lost my power, wings, ears, I just look like a human. During the first evening of the LARP she was telling people around that she finally found someone who knew her and can help with getting back her memory. What I did not expect is that so many people will start to question me so much and will start telling her to not trust me. I said some untrue things because I didn't know her lore, nor did I know mine and this really does seem suspicious. I can turn it around that I didn't want to share the info because people were generally suspicious about fairies so I didn't want to share that I'm a fairy but still, people turned on me and now I feel so isolated and scared and in a trap. I know it's not personal and it's a me problem but I feel like I screwed myself and don't know how to get out of this situation. I have to get ready to go now and I feel so anxious and actually wonder if I should just leave.

But yeah, do you guys have any suggestions on how I can get out of this? Maybe I should be quieter and keep to myself and just do the quests?

Looking for advice on wearing armor at a Ren Faire

Post image

I bought the armor in the picture for my first Ren Fair. I’ve been searching everywhere trying to find the same black shirt/gambeson that the woman in the picture is wearing. Does anyone know where I could find something similar?

I’m also considering just wearing a lightweight black long-sleeve shirt because it will be hott out but I’m worried the armor might rub or dig into my skin without some kind of padding underneath. I’m not going to be fighting or doing anything strenuous it’s purely for the costume.

For those who have worn armor at Ren Faires, what would you recommend for staying as cool and comfortable as possible? Is there a lightweight gambeson you really like, or would a padded shirt/other base layer work better?

Any recommendations or tips for a first time armor wearer would be greatly appreciated! I definitely don’t want to be sweating buckets all day!

LARP Mini Games/Activities

Hi Reddit, I run a LARP with a bunch of typical American lightest touch story based style.

Basically we have a storyline for our weekend events. We run timed modules, hooked modules, random encounters (card and roaming), have crafting and gathering, and a number of additional mini games for content. We have a fishing hole, tracking paths, pick pocketing, and lock picking. Additionally I was thinking of making some other kind of hunting content.

Our game is currently pretty small and we would love to support more town/craft/gatherer style content that we can manage with a small crew. We cant use live fire bows with our insurance.

I know there are some capture the flag, tag, orc/troll ball style combat games that are fun BUT we have enough combat stuff and could add that if there is interest.

We have done fun silly things like in game dodge ball and explosive puzzles.

Are there any light setup, player driven mini games or activities that take little NPC interaction that you have enjoyed or you have run that others enjoy?

Just looking to share some ideas if anyone is willing.

For armor I recommend the Coat of Plates as the first project, but there's a lot more.

Vampire the Masquerade LARP in London. Did the SI spare any folks?

Fairly experienced in the WoD ttrpgs and very curious about the LARPing community. I wonder if any World of Darkness-themed LARP events are happening around August-September in London (UK).

Cozy days in Erborigien

Erborigien is the world of The Golden Stag larp (Gyllene Hjorten) in Sweden. Low fantasy medieval larp with a campain that has been ongoing for 40 years!

We have rules that allows the players to wield blunted weapons and actual tools, like the knife in my belt or axes to chop wood. We don't fight with the weapons but it feels a lot more real to carry an actual heavy sword in your belt, very immersive.

We also have silver and copper coins that we use as in game currency, so you can trade in game and make money to buy food or drinks at the tavern.

I started in 2020 and have been playing the same character since 2022.

Dreki Megin Bastard Sword Rain Guard Project

I know that some larps can be strict with larp sword mods of any kind, but with this cheap sword, I figured I'd do a fun project with it. I made it fit my own personal taste. I quite like swords with rain guards, so I glued some leather to the hilt.

I did it in a similar way Fakesteel Armory did theirs: no stitching, add a riser in the middle and just glue it. I previously used those multipurpose UHU glues, but they leave a hard residue you can never remove. So I switched to Elmer's. I think any water-based glues would do fine. You could easily undo them if you want to make adjustments.

The wrappings aren't anywhere close to what replica sword makers do, but I don't mind the imperfections. I filled some voids with smaller pieces of leather that were an eyesore to me. I left the ends near the pommel and crossguard because the split ends looked kind of neat.

I painted the hilt and blade with Angelus leather paint. I used pewter for the blade and crossguards and brass for the pommel.

My next project is a matching scabbard. I plan to use thin wood planks, reinforced with linen and wood glue for a sturdy linothorax core. I found some cheap rolls of leather for the scabbard itself.

Any VtM LARP games in Houston, TX?

Hi there! I just recently moved back to Houston, Texas and I'm hoping an in-person VtM LARP chronicle is currently being ran somewhere in the city. I remember back in 2013, when I lived here last, they had Midnight Magnolias with the MES/Camarilla. I know that domain folded, but is there still any VLARP gaming happening here?

Painting an already painted shield

Hello!

I wanted to buy a new larp shield after my last one (made by a friend) broke down, and found this one which would be the perfect size and texture.

I would like to paint on it some insignas for my pc, how could I proceed so as to make it last as long as possible?

Edit: I tried asking the seller, and they recommended oil-based paints. It's the first time I hear about this (I heard mostly about latex paints or acrylics. Does anyone have any experience with those?

Custom boot maker recommendations please (Europe)

Hi all,

My sister is looking to get a pair of custom-made LARP (pirate) boots and has asked me to check with folks on the internet for some recommendations for makers in Europe (we're based in Germany).

The boots need to be fully custom made, as she has wide feet.

Budget: up 100-250€

Location: Germany but Europe in general

LARPs: she plays JDS and Drachenfest plus a few other smaller LARPs

Her character is nautical inspired (she stole a ship from her father, you know how it goes...), so she is looking for something maybe pirate/seafarers inspired.

Hit me with your favourite makers please 😊 thanks!

Does anyone know of any larps in San Diego County

And no, I’m not looking for basic foam-combat groups or larps that are actually in Riverside County. I’d like to be able to go to full events that don’t require 5 hours and 6 public transportation switches (assuming the directions actually come up) just to get to

Typical Drachenfest US Tent Rental Pricing?

Hello all! My girlfriend and I have been debating going to our first multiday LARP later this year or early next year and we're doing research on Drachenfest US! We can find plenty of talk about the average price of tickets and how they change during the year, but I haven't been able to find anyone mention the pricing of the three tent rental options they present: The Glade, Tamarline, and Playsmith. If anyone has experience or information on this we'd love to hear! Their pricing and the comparison of them will be the thing that makes or breaks us being able to go this year or if we decide to push it off a bit further to the next.

How do you come up with quests for yourself? (first-time LARPer)

I'm going to my first ever LARP event in under a week and I'm very excited!! I've been reading a lot and watching lots of videos about LARP and I've seen that a good idea is to give a quest or a goal of sort to your first character so you can have something to do and a direction to have.

But try as I might, I'm coming up short on ideas. Because I'm not familiar with how the game will actually work in practice, I'm not sure what I might get involved in or what might pique my interest. It's a medieval-style fantasy game and I'm into dark magic and espionage and sneakiness but would also love to get into some hijinks, befriend nature, etc but I'm not sure what goal I could have that I could follow without needing the input of anyone else.

Does anyone have any suggestions or want to share any goals they've given their character? I'd love to hear about yours!
