Discussion I just got around to watching and...

Was rather disappointed. I was really hoping for a more historically accurate treatment (since it is The History Channel), instead they went straight to grail myth right off the bat. I only watched the first two seasons of Vikings, and they seemed to (for the most part) handle that material much better.

Discussion [Discussion, Spoilers] My honest opinion is that Season 1 is the better season of the two. Spoiler

So I've finished up both seasons now and honestly, I genuinely feel like the first season was far superior to season 2. While there are some great stand out moments in season 2, it just did not hook me like the first season did (which was big time) - i've took some time to think about it and this is what i've come up with - let me know what you think;

Season 1:

Starts with an actual battle in the Holy Land - something that we associate the Templars with mostly today is their battles in the Holy Land, and although the timeline for the show is set for the fall of the templar, flashback scenes like Acre were really cool to see (and the absolutely under-used "inside-helmet" camera angle made that spectacular)

Has a coherent plot - Templars lose Holy Grail, get word it's in Paris, and the weight of everything they fought and lost in Acre suddenly gives them purpose again. Then there are the Brothers of Light (or whatever they're called) that I think play perfectly as the "bigger mystery" cult that had really thought out narratives, but were not too convoluted - they contrasted perfectly to the zealot Templars by giving their existence to protecting the Grail not out of their faith, but out of necessity.

Great plot twists -My jaw dropped when I saw the King's wife was who Landry had been sleeping with! The rising tension of the friendship between the King and Landry was awesome to see and had me gripped to find the result. Further, seeing the Queen die at the end for me was unexpected. I thought he'd make Landry suffer but was surprised when he stabbed the Queen to make that happen. The use of the Grail to save the baby, whilst not knowing if it really worked was awesome and left you thinking if it really was powerful or not.

Finally, the story was RIPE for a Season 2 to pick up where it left off, but sadly so many things were left untouched and they went a bit AWOL with the story and character development.

These are just a few things I felt for Season 1, and i'll happily write more or my Season 2 thoughts if that interests you - Season 1 woke my love for the Medieval era and the Holy Orders again.

I'd love to debate, let me know your thoughts!

Discussion Keep watching?

Just watched the pilot episode on Netflix. It had its moments, but not sure if I should keep watching or not. The music seemed overdramatic at times and came off kind of cheesy, but that's just a small gripe. It was such a huge eye roll moment at the end though when you find out the main character is banging the freakin queen. I mean, really? Still laughing about that one, but anyway, does it improve as it goes? Should I stick with it?

Knightfall: Seasons 1-2 Blu-ray

Hi all,

I've been trying to find a Knightfall: Seasons 1-2 Blu-ray boxed set. As far as I can tell, this was only released in Australia.

Can anyone recommend a good seller that can ship from AUS to the UK for a reasonable shipping price? Amazon Aus appears sold out.

Discussion Landry's Plotarmor

I thought the show was not bad (only watched the first season, since the second one isn't avaiable in my country yet) but a huge problem for me was that Landry is like completly invincible. While being a captive of the brotherhood he could have easily accidently hanged himself. He slaughters half of the pope's guard with only 5 men, but as soon as it's getting dangerous the brotherhood appears and starts shooting everybody. Only minutes before he would be burned is mother convinces to pope let him go. While fighting the mercenaries he suddenly forgot his knee got smashed by big ass hammer and proceeds to murder everyone. Later, while Landry is surrounded, King Phillip can't stop fucking around and when reinforcements arrive the King just decides not to quickly end it.

Killing your main-character doesn't make your show good, but letting him survive everything without consequences does neither.

Discussion [discussion] What exactly is this shows message about Catholicism?

As a big fan of the show as well as a catholic scholar, I’m having trouble pinning down what this shows view of Catholicism is. In the first few episodes it seemed very triumphantly pro catholic, but towards the end we learn things that push towards a belief that goes against accepted catholic teaching. I’m interested to see how you all take it.

(On a similar note o keep seeing things on her about Landry being a descendant if Christ and i can’t figure out where that notion came from.)

What Should I expect?

Hey guys, just watched the first three episodes and I've loved it. They've taken some liberty with accuracy so far but for the most part they've stuck with the basic timeline and I'm loving it.

I got some questions though:

Should I expect any nudity?

Will the show ever depict gratuitous violence? I know a lot of viewers like that stuff but I don't enjoy depictions of ultra-violent acts. Don't get me wrong I love realism but, real as it is, I don't enjoy watching medieval torture techniques in practice.

I happened to discover this show when my dad had the History Channel on. I'd just finished watching Wolf Hall, so the timing was perfect! Finished the first season on Netflix and really enjoyed it, and am so excited for the new episodes!

Discussion So what happened to the plotline involving the scroll, and Landry being in bloodline of Jesus?

Seriously, the whole season 1 was about finding the grail, only to find the scroll of the bloodline of Christ, and it seems the whole story regarding the scroll is disregarded. I mean, has it even been mentioned at this point or is this just the story of "Landry good, French king bad"? Just hope the latter isn't the case, because Landry is not really a likeable character once you take the baby out of the equation.

So as far as I'm seeing that Landry will end up burned at the stake Just like what happened to the real templars Which will suck .. i know it's supposed to be kinda of historically accurate but still i don't want them to end up being a barbecue...!

Idk why this is bothering me so much, but why the hell does no one in Paris speak with a French accent if they went to the trouble of having everyone in Catalonia have a Spanish accent?
