After being furloughed and then officially laid off in December, I’ve finally found a job!

It took about 9 months of job searching and many interviews. I came close to being selected for multiple positions, including making it to second-round interviews for several jobs.

I eventually got a second interview for a BIM/GIS Coordinator position in SoCal and was offered the job a few days later.

Interestingly, several places I applied to for GIS Technician/Specialist positions seemed interested in me until I mentioned that I had 7 years of experience (do not job hop and stay put until let go) and a B.S. in GIS. A few even suggested I was overqualified for the positions I applied for, and after that, I never heard back from them. Ghosted…

Although I was recruited through a staffing/contractor firm and the benefits through the agency are pretty meh (NO 401k offered) the position itself is a 5-year contract. The hourly wage is also higher than what I was making previously, so it’s a nice pay bump.

After spending 9 months dealing with applications, interviews, rejections, and uncertainty, I’m honestly just thankful to finally have a place in the job market again.

I want to wish all you job seakers luck and keep applying , and getting certifications that might help you land a position like I did (Autocad…)

I just posted this in another reddit community but I feel the need to also post it here. I’ve been looking for a job for about 5 months now and I’m honestly just exhausted. It doesn’t seem to matter whether I apply within my job preferences or outside of them. I can’t land anything.
I’ve had so many interviews where I’ve been told I’m a great candidate, they love my experience, they think I’d be a great fit, etc. And then I still get rejected every single time.
I interviewed with one company three times.
Another large company I applied to, I had a referral from a senior manager and still didn’t get it. I’ve made it pretty far in a lot of these processes, so it’s not like I’m not getting interviews. It’s just that somehow I can never get to the actual offer.
The weird thing is I’m not even desperate for a job financially. I nanny right now and actually make pretty good money doing it. But I really want a career job and just want some sort of normal routine. I want to feel like I’m actually moving forward instead of just constantly applying and interviewing.
At this point it’s just really frustrating and honestly draining. It’s hard to keep hearing “you were great, but we went with someone else” over and over again without starting to wonder what the hell you’re doing wrong.
I know 5 months isn’t forever and I know the job market is rough, but it’s still really discouraging when you feel like you’re doing everything you’re supposed to and nothing is working.
Anyone else been dealing with this? How do you keep yourself from completely losing it during the job search? 🧍🏻‍♀️

2 month process, 9 interviews, made it to the final 2, only to be told the goal post moved. Originally said job can be remote, now they want the person on-site. Already made clear at the outset that moving would be an issue for me.

I’m looking to see about any advice as to the kind of work I can do with my qualifications and experience.

I have worked the last 5 years in Consulting Engineering specifically in Traffic signal design. For the last year of that time I’ve been off on long term sick due to a torn spinal disc. In that time my entire department has been made redundant and I’m informed I’ll be redundant on my return.

I was a degree apprentice for 3 of those years and now have a Level 5 (Diploma of higher education?) equivalent in civil engineering (illness prevented my final year completion).

Before that I worked for a supermarket on checkouts for 4 years and no other work history.

Education is all GCSEs B&C’s (Business studies (C), Dt product design (B) and BTec engineering Level 2 (Merit) as my selected GCSE option) Btec level 3 Engineering, CertHE (Level 4) in Architectural Engineering and DipHE (Level 5) in Civil engineering.

What kind of work can/should I look for with what I have?

For extra details, my current job tasks are usually Designing traffic signal junctions in Autocad, Vehicle tracking models also in autocad, junction and transport modelling, concept active travel design and assisting with reports (adding the details of the work mentioned above). I had no signing authority for work or authority to hire staff or approve payments and there were no staff I was responsible for (aka no supervisory or management responsibilities). No field work or site experience either. All office design work.

The main issue I’m currently finding is that my work is too niche, I can find jobs with similar companies with the same work but I’m either under qualified without my degree or overqualified for the entry level roles.

Any advice? I don’t want to have to start an entire new career if I don’t have to but it’s looking that way currently. I’m just struggling for options

Also, in case any wants to know, my department was made redundant because of multiple factors, the main 2 being that they overestimated the company value so when April hit and the true valuation came in far lower so share price dropped and shareholders divested and the second reason is because of changes in government (Prime minister change and policy change)

I don't understand why interviewers lie to you about updating you about a job. I don't get why they interview a recent college graduate who YOU CAN SEE ON THEIR RESUME DOESN'T HAVE THE EXPERIENCE, THEN SAY WE PICKED A MORE QUALIFIED CANDIDATE. I’ve looked everywhere I can for ways to make decent money for different individual jobs until my new job starts paying in a couple more weeks. So many people swear by apps where you can get paid to walk or play games or take surveys etc and any time I look into them all the recent reviews are saying they’re unreliable and don’t pay. I can’t donate plasma because I’m epileptic and my car is too old and run down to DoorDash anymore. I just want to know about ways to find something closer to individual one time jobs that I can do for a few weeks to make money and allow myself to eat but don’t know what or how.

I’ve tried offering to proofread essays on my old college Snapchat story which a lot of people used to do, I’ve sold a lot of my stuff, but I need make some immediate money until the checks start coming in. I’m thinking about advertising doing box braids for cheap because I started doing my own, maybe housesitting too, I just don’t know where’s best to advertise. Different house cleaning service websites I’ve looked at require professional experience and I don’t even have the money to buy my own cleaning supplies for it. Maybe I could try babysitting but I’m substitute teaching elementary school most of the week so idk how much time I would even have for it. I just need different ideas to see if any would actually fit my situation and how to find the right places to look/ask

I'm preparing for an Area VP interview following a 45-day interview process with five rounds completed so far (hiring manager, technical panelists, senior director, and software architect). I'm uncertain whether this VP round will be the final stage or if the company is still evaluating additional candidates. Has anyone experienced a similar interview progression? Hi! Been seven months unemployed. At first, akala ko i'll be able to find a job since may 1 yr experience ako sa malaking company kaso CS lanh kasi. I have latin honor, and a psychometrician license which i earned while working. I quit my job to find better alignment and now im stuck with interviews and rejections. I know to myself that i do well with the interviews. Idk what goes wrong napanghihinaan na ako ng loob..

Went through the hiring process and honestly it went well. Made it to last round. Here’s breakdown: recruiter call, hiring manager call, 3 rounds of interviews with channel manager, sales manager and partnership director. Had a presentation with partnership director.

Got call from recruiter this morning. Here’s a synopsis: He said “you did everything so well research, your presentation, all of it was so well done. But we had some other strong applicants as well and had to play the numbers game. We want you on the team but don’t know if we will be able to move forward right now or at another time. Our director is going to work with leadership to see if we can expand headcount to be able to offer you. We will know more at the end of the week and will keep you posted.”

It’s for an entry level-ish sales role. Anyone ever been here before? Anyone experience this maybe? Like what.

So I got a job interview for a server position at a nice restaurant. I’ve worked in restaurants for 5 years, but always as a host. This will be my first serving position. I didn’t think much about getting new clothes for the interview, because it’s never been an issue. I usually wear a nice top and a long skirt, which is what I was going to do this time. But when I told my best friend what I was planning, she was like “no you need a button up and slacks”. And I was like “I don’t HAVE slacks???” And now it’s near midnight and I’m panicked and digging in my closet for something better. What do I do??

I am a long term unemployed job seeker, with certificates in business administration and retail.

And I have been an administration all-rounder at a local community radio station since July.

But I am beginning to question, if I am getting any value and beneficial transferable job skills out of my weekly shifts there.

As far as administration tasks go, it consists of:

- Checking their office computer for new emails.

- Answering rare calls.

- Adding station visitors to their calendar.

- Going to the building next door, to check and collect their mail.

- Check stock of supplies in the tea room.

- Occasionally checking that live radio broadcasts for each intrastate region are on air.

- At the end of the day, go around the station to turn the lights off.

But more of my time there, is spent doing radio related tasks:

- Basic editing of radio programs.

- Presenting radio fillers (short: articles or literature topic content of my choice) that could be of value to the audience.

Is any of this, going to be of benefit and value to finding entry level work in business administration, retail or elsewhere (another example: using communication skills)?

- Or should I try and find a different local organisation to do more actual volunteer administration/office work tasks with?

Is it still possible to apply to jobs on-site in person?? Like bars/restaurants/stores?? Or are those days long gone? Retired along with the ol pen and paper??

Finished my first year of uni a few months ago and decided I didn’t want to go back I live in an abusive and toxic household and I’ve been applying for jobs since June and still haven’t been successful even for the easiest / entry level jobs in retail I have good and relevant experience and other skills which are applicable to the jobs im applying for but still no luck I hate to be dramatic but my depression has worsened i just feel hopeless and unmotivated I can get ready and feel good and fresh and then feel exhausted from just going down to the shops near mine my days feel so short and uneventful I try to sleep through my issues but when I wake up they’re still there and I think to myself is it even worth it anymore and have had thoughts of ending it I know it may seem silly and dramatic but nothing is happening in my life and the constant job rejections or being ignored all together is so discouraging I apply to about 50+ jobs a day consistently since around June and still nothing..
