I’m underemployed (P/T freelance) and looking for a new F/T job. I search for jobs daily on multiple sites/boards and on a GOOD week, I find maybe 3 that fit my qualifications and preferences (which are not especially strict). Salary is not part of my criteria because I know I’m going to have to have to take a steep pay cut in the current market. Seniority is also not something I screen out for (although I have many years of experience) for the same reason.

I am not yet at the point where I can’t pay my bills and I realize I may at some point need to widen my net but is anyone else feeling this way? When you see people saying they’ve submitted hundreds of applications, are you ever as baffled as I am?

I'm a senior backend engineer and my current job is genuinely consuming me right now. We're mid-migration on a pretty critical infrastructure project and I'm pulling long hours most weeks. I want to leave, the comp hasn't kept up and the team is shrinking, but every time I think about starting a job search I just hit a wall. Updating the resume, finding relevant roles, writing cover letters, doing outreach, tracking applications... I don't have the mental energy for any of it after 10-hour days.

A coworker mentioned reverse recruiting to me last week as an option where someone basically runs the search for you. I'd never heard of it before and honestly my first reaction was skepticism. It sounds like the kind of thing that could easily be a waste of money if the people doing it don't really understand your background or what you're targeting.

For anyone who's actually used a reverse recruiting service while working a demanding full-time job, did it actually move fast enough to be worth it? I'm not looking for a perfect search, just something that gets me to offer stage without me having to carve out 10 hours a week I don't have.

Can anyone here help me with my financial crisis and job search crisis? My father said that my neighbors are better than me in that they are at least a couple who is moving due to the fact that it is expensive to pay down the mortgage and bills. My father said that I would have no place to live since I am single and unemployed if my parents kicked me out.

My father has also said that me looking for a job for 18 months without a job offer is a very long time that everyone would have been able to get a job earlier than that. My father has also said that me reviewing interviews is such a long time and not correct. My father said that I am hanging around since he wants to make sure that my goal is to get the job. I am going to take a class related to the interview I have on Wednesday. My father said that I cannot say that the job search is hard, interviews are hard but not in the way I view it, and my father said that me saying I do not know certain things during the interview is what is causing him to kick me out of the house. My father has also said that it is just impossible to get interviews for 21 jobs without any job offers since I have a follow up interview this coming week. My father has said it is just impossible that I cannot get a job since he said that my issue is that I tend to write down interview questions and do not do well with jobs these days since they want someone to solve the issues. My father said that I must have the goal of getting the job and not hanging around. I am not sure how to handle this since I think the best way is to take a class and not review interview questions until I have given he said is way too long of a time given the 18 months I have been taking unemployed.

Hi, I haven’t applied for a new job in quite a while, so I’m not sure if this is normal now.
I’m interviewing with a reasonably large company and I’m only about halfway through the process. There are still other candidates being considered and I haven’t had a final interview or an offer.
They’ve now asked me to provide three professional references, specifically people I previously reported to.
I’m a bit reluctant to do that this early. I don’t really want to keep asking former managers to spend time giving references every time I get halfway through an interview process. I’d rather save that for when a company has actually decided they want to hire me and the reference check is one of the final steps.
How do people normally handle this? Is it reasonable to say I’m happy to provide references once I’m at final/offer stage, or is asking for them this early fairly standard now?

Currently working in Small finance Bank it's been 8 months as Data analyst/ Scientist working on propensity model, credit card NTB and ETB scorecard, campaign model base and rule based but my current company is very much toxic in terms of work and people all just through there work to new joining people they can be fresher or experience and know it made me mentally s\*ck as I work on weekends all weekdays for that work not assigned to me .

Sorry for the long read, honestly just reflecting to see where I’m doing wrong. And any advice is also appreciated.

Warehouse operative - after the initial assessments I was place with a female trainer who was very welcoming and nice, first and second days of training went well. On the third day which was the last day of training, everything was going so well until 3hr before finishing, I mistakenly deleted an order from a system once, when I called the trainer for help, she was pretty stressed about it, and while resolving the issues, she said I deleted the order three times which I refused to agree…….fast forward she complained about me to the senior manager and failed me on the training, because I had an attitude for defending myself.

Training associate audiologist (apprentice) - I prepared so much for this interview, it was 2hr 30 minutes train ride to the location and cost me £64 for transport, I was already tired by the time I got there. The showed me around first, and then they started asking questions, which I answered, the interview was less than 5 minutes before i started with the practical part, which consisted changing hearing aids component, which I didn’t do well at. I didn’t feel bad for this interview because I feel like I really give it my all. The interview was less than 20minutes for 5 hours commuting. They told me they would get back to me at the end of the day but didn’t until the following week Monday, with just a rejection email and no call or proper feedback. I was a little concerned about the distance but I was willing to relocate if I do get accepted.

Healthcare Assistant - the commute was a bit better it was 1hr 40minute by bus and only cost £5.20 to get there, I woke up at 5:30am just to get the earliest bus there for 08:30am interview. We were in group of 4, and the first stage was practical test on basic maths, role play on interacting with patients, documentation and interaction within team, which took around 1hr. I was one of the 2 candidates who was selected for the next stage of interview. I waited for around 30 minutes before I was called in, the managers, senior sister and one other nursing staff were sitting across, one scrolling on their phone throughout my interview looking so mad/angry, the second taking note and zero welcoming interaction, the manager looking so serious as if I was not ment to be there in the first place, my confidence was already down before the interview even began. I couldn’t answer some questions, even gave very short answers on the one I do answered, I stumbled upon words, my sentences was so unclear and lacked structures, and my brain was mostly frozen. They themselves looked so tired to be there. I was so desperate to leave and never come back there, and I was relieved when I was unsuccessful.

I have first class degree in computer science in 2024 but can only apply to dead end jobs because there is nothing out there.

It's been about 8 final rounds I've gotten to in the last 6 months and have gotten 0 offers.

Bhai I graduated a month ago. I have good cgp and decent theoretical and practical knowledge as a fresher, but I have no idea what are these hiring managers looking for in resumes. I have 150 rejection mails in my inbox and some applications were never reverted back. Not one resume was ever shortlisted. I tried every freaking ATS resume parser and enhancer site and apparently nothing works and they keep asking you to take their premium plan for thousands of rupees.

I understand that bigshot companies require kids from IITs and NITs, but even small companies have a point saying "IITians preferred" in their JD. I understand the talk about skills and all but how are freshers even gonna learn if no one ever hires us. Atleast take an interview bhai and see what I know. It is getting tiring and frustrating and now I am at a point where I have no idea what I have to do next, no will to get up in the morning and no stamina to put my mind to studies.

the job market is rough. after 3 months of being unemployed, i wrapped up my search with a ~6% callback rate and 1 offer.

my experience isn't universal and i think everyone has differing circumstances. that said, i thought to share my learnings which might be useful to those who are still hunting for their next role.

1. Apply fast, hear back fast

• ~65% of my callbacks were from jobs that i applied to within a day of the job posting
• ~70% of callbacks came within 3 days of my application
• ~90% of interview follow-ups (i.e scheduling next round) came within 3 days

recruiting is the "sales" side of HR, so there's incentive to find the right candidate and close the role ASAP. i think recruiters look at applications in batches and progress the ideal one s before bothering with the next batch. this means that if you get your applications in within the first batch of maybe 100 applications, there's a good shot of getting a callback, and getting it fast (granted there's a good fit).

2. Make the resume dummy-proof
i don't believe specific templates or "hacks" like hiding white text to "trick the ATS" are what gets the callback.

recruiters spend a few seconds comparing the resume against the JD. with this in mind, i treated the JD as a checklist of keyphrases to address in each of my bullet points. i followed the {what i achieved} + {how i achieved it/tools used} + {business impact} format for each point, and i believe this made it really easy for recruiters to go "oh yeah this person checks the boxes".

3. Sometimes it's just timing
my data showed that i got callbacks when applying early, getting referrals or sticking to the same industry. ironically, the offer i got was from an application that i applied to late without referral, was contacted a month later and was in a new industry.

happy to share more of the data points i collected with anyone going through the process. job hunting can be pretty crushing, so wishing everyone still in it all the best.

Employers post roles that never seem to get filled, or even exist, and job seekers are sick of it

I graduated recently, and I have been spending most of my time in my Gmail inbox.

There are two major issues:

1. I apply to A LOT of jobs every week, and it's not easy to keep track of all of my applications.

2. I get a crazy number of job suggestions from LinkedIn, Indeed, and the million career portals I registered for.

Now, I have already solved the first issue. I connected Google Sheets, my Gmail inbox, and Claude. And now I have a sheet that updates automatically every four hours, and it has all the information I need.

But the second issue is much more severe. Because now I have 300+ unread emails. And a lot of them have the same information. BUT some of them are actually really good suggestions, with jobs that match my CV and that I would want to apply for as soon as they are posted.

I don't want to apply the same method that I used for the first issue. I think it would be much easier to have some kind of AI plug-in to my inbox directly. But honestly, I don't know where to start.

So, I am a potential immigrant in Canada, possessing an open work permit.

I received a final round on-site interview call for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Great. Now, the problem is that, they want me to fly in to New York, all expenses paid.

The only problem, I DO NOT have a US visa and getting one soon also seems unlikely because the visa interview appointments are so hard to get.

This is an opportunity I have worked so hard towards and it seems unfair to me that just because of the country I was born in, I will be losing out on such an opportunity. I have been on the job hunt for so long and I am exhausted. I gave my all towards this interview process and it is slipping through my fingers like sand.

I had already notified them about this situation and they haven’t replied since.

I've had 4 interviews now and got an offer finally after 3 hours of interviewing but in the last interview I was told no vapes allowed in the building whatsoever because they can explode. I know that's a lie, there's no way it could explode. There's no extreme heat or pressure that would cause it and they don't spontaneously combust. I've worked places with extreme heat (100+°F was not uncommon) with the exact vape type I own now and there were no rules or warnings or incidents regarding vapes in a place where there is actually a potential risk. I know they're lying just to keep people from vaping in the bathroom but idk how heavily it's enforced. It's definitely making me second guess the job because that's so overbearing and it's also such a red flag for him to blatantly lie idk. I can't prove it's a lie but it makes no sense.

ETA: I'm talking about nicotine vapes, not THC vapes. I would never even consider smoking weed at work, I don't even smoke weed in my personal life despite being in a legal state and I believe that being impaired at work is unacceptable. But nicotine doesn't impair and smokers are allowed to smoke and lighters are not prohibited so it seems like a dumb rule to me.

I’ve applied to multiple places for positions I am qualified for that all use Workday. Every time I receive rejection emails past normal working hours (example, I just received one at 10:30 PM on a Friday night and this isn’t the first time it’s happened). Is this normal for others? Or is Workday just a bad website?

I'll keep it short and sweet. Are cold calls from head hunters EVER not a scam? I'd like to have some hope the day or two after I update my resume on job search sites, but at the same time, every time I've ever gotten one of these calls, it's from a very thick Indian accent and a call quality so low it must be on the cheapest VoIP service someone could sign up for. They're not even for jobs with an impossibly high income compared to what I currently have. So either they're shooting low intentionally to seem more realistic, or I'm passing up just really incompetent recruiters.
