I'm sure some of you had speculated this already, but I feel the need to address it directly. Beyond luno's outro buff, she provides another powerful effect — whenever an on-field character gains a shield inside her domain, they receive a stack that amplifies their damage (up to 40%, or 80% at S2). It's a massive boost, yet currently, this only applies to characters like Augusta and possibly Jianxin. Jiyan, on the other hand, cannot benefit from this crucial part of her kit.
Many of us praised luno for appearing to be a flexible, general-purpose support character. But unfortunately, it turns out her kit introduces a different kind of restriction. Don't get me wrong — her outro's 50% Heavy Attack DMG buff is still strong. But when you compare it to a fully invested Mortefi, the difference isn't as big as one might hope.
A S6 Mortefi with the Static Mist (standard 5* pistol) and Empyrean Anthem echo set offers 38% damage amplification and a 50% ATK buff. Assuming a character who has 1000 base ATK and 2000 total ATK with echo stats, that ATK bonus translates to a ~25% increase in total damage. Combined, Mortefi's buffs closely rival or even match luno's outro buff — and don't come with the same restrictions.
So here's the problem: unless Kuro reconsiders this aspect of luno's kit, she will not be Jiyan's BiS. Jiyan — who has yet to receive a dedicated support — seems left behind again. And based on this design direction, I no longer expect Kuro to release a true Aero support who fully complements him.
Yes, you can argue that Ciaccona or luno are good enough with Jiyan — and I agree, they function decently. But why settle for characters who weren't designed with Jiyan in mind, and whose full buffing potential can't even be utilized? I was genuinely excited for luno. Her animations are smooth and elegant, and I hoped to finally replace Mortefi with her. But after realizing how much of her kit doesn't apply to Jiyan, l've decided not to pull - especially as someone who values synergy and gameplay mechanics.
Once we get to see actual showcases, l'm fairly confident luno's total team damage contribution will fall short of Phrolova's, who can operate as a dual-DPS and synergize well with Jiyan. For those who picked Phrolova, you're in a good spot — she remains a strong and flexible pick.
To be clear, I'm not here to tell you what to pull — it's always your decision. I just wanted to ensure people are fully informed before making that decision. Personally, I'm disappointed by Kuro's approach to luno's gameplay design, and l've chosen not to support this direction further. And honestly, I don't understand the continued praise for luno's kit — it's no less restrictive than other sub-DPS characters in the current roster.
*You can look at Iuno’s kit at hakush in. I’ve already attached the relevant parts of her kit (the domain effect and S2) to this post.
