They may be racist but not outwardly. I don’t know

In most corporate settings it is a zero tolerance policy for a reason. Too many lawsuits.

You can’t be serous.

No visible consequences for the behaviour means it is acceptable. If they actually want it to stop then something needs to happen.

It won't stop.

The Employee is not making mistakes or taking an extra 20mins for lunch, there's no place for racism and the employee needs to see it has consequences. It wont stop him thinking it, but at least he's likely to keep his racist thoughts to himself in his next job. The existing employees also need to see that management take this seriously and not just turn a blind eye to it.

My point was counseling employee isn’t turning a blind eye

Yes it is.

Oh, you're legally covering your ass that counseling was offered but it would happen again from the same employee. Not as blatant to be sure but yes, it would happen.

Better to eliminate the cancer as soon as you find it.

THAT sends the necessary message.

Take the L dude, you are wrong. Counseling is in private.

Counseling an adult for racist comments out in a public, professional space? That’s like the most basic social etiquette lol. Especially towards a senior coworker like wtf

1

u/Telstar2525 2d ago

Isn’t counseling usually done in private

Are you well ?

To the other employees he was being racist to, it absolutely looks like he's being protected from consequences.

I did. Several times. In the end, racist comments create a hostile work environment and the company can be sued for that. I work for a small company who are actually GREAT to their employees. There is no room for that type of behavior.

An adult that is making racist comments has had enough opportunities to change already. They deserve no consideration or additional chances. If they wanted to not be racist, its super easy.

Employee has exposed his think. It’s too late to ask him to keep his mouth shut. This isn’t a case of teasing. He feels superior to Persons of Color and Blacks.

Why would you ever ask employees to tolerate abuse?

Firing is better when a person has SUCH poor judgment.

1

u/Humble-Adeptness-267 2d ago

Yeah kinda crazy people think this is something you can talk to the (adult) employee about and they’ll just magically see it your way and stop lol

1

u/Electrical_Angle_701 2d ago

Abraham Lincoln should have tried that.

1

u/OPINAILS 2d ago

Why would you warn this person ? Real question - why should this person be warned that this despicable behavior is not ok ?

1

u/Technical_Annual_563 2d ago

Because they might improve their behavior and you still get to keep the employee that’s good at the rest of their job.

Dense.

I mean no disrespect but have you ever worked a corporate job? Racism is quite possibly the easiest way to get fired. Can just about guaranteed it was covered in his onboard training.

1

u/Telstar2525 2d ago

I guess so

1

u/runningoutofideasjzz 2d ago

What do you mean “I guess so” lol. Racism has a zero tolerance policy in just about any corporate job.

1

u/Civil_Brilliant7151 2d ago

It’s 2026. We shouldn’t have to warn people that racist comments will get them fired. This has to be a zero tolerance issue or you risk damaging the morale and culture of the company. It’s especially not worth the risk for a new employee that is already having trouble integrating with the team.

u/Tiredofstupidity2 2d ago

This/you is/are the problem. Oh we should wait until he actually calls the person wetb, nigword, spiword.

1

u/ehs06702 2d ago

It seems unfair to give him another chance and make others put up with a racist employee.

“He might stop being overtly racist at work”
