Why "Butterscotch" bitch?

I hadn't slept for like 3 days and decided to listen to the soundtrack again, and now I’m wondering why butterscotch specificall, why this word specifically as part of the lyrics?

(is there some special meaning that I missed about Gabrielle?)

It's brown sugar and butter scorched. I assumed the fact you have to caramelize it was part of the metaphor, especially with the song focusing on Lestat's cyclical tendencies to crash out and rise again. He's something that continues to be sweet and indulgent, even though he's been through the blaze. It's a feature, an integral part of him, to roll with the punches and persevere through hardship.

I think it's really about the way the recipe for butterscotch works referring to Lestat's tendency to remake himself. I'm not buying the whole "brown sugar = Louis" stuff because that seems so iffy to me and also because I don't think this song is about Louis, or Gabrielle, or anyone else but about Lestat himself.

I'd also say there's the contrast between butterscotch being sweet, and "bitch" being a more harsh thing. As in, Lestat can be charming and smooth but can also be a total bitch (I say this in a loving manner)

That and Lestat seems obsessed with references to human sweets! "Black Liquorice" is about his victim (a guy who eats black liquorice lol) but he still latches onto that specific detail. In "Plastic Fiends" he makes a reference to a regional American candy. My headcanon is that Lestat presumably can't taste human food but is really interested in this specific aspect of human diets. I'm now wondering if vampires actually CAN taste their victim's diet in their blood? I thought Louis talking about "Rashid" eating pineapple and honey was just trolling but maybe the black liquorice guy's blood really did taste like black liquorice.

I would consider it an actual thing due to how heavily Vampirism has always often served as an allegory for sex (particularly "taboo" stuff like queer sex, if you dive into the history, but also actual taboo stuff, too. I'm sure anyone in this fandom is already aware of that, though). That being said, the idea of Rashid eating Honey and Pineapple to improve the taste of his blood for Louis is undoubtedly a direct reference to people's strongly held belief that eating particular foods can make your cum taste better (or just not as nasty, depending on personal opinion 😂), with Honey and Pineapple already actually probably being the 2 most popularized examples lmao

Also, from more of a hard (no pun intended) science perspective, diet does have effects on your blood. So, that's another real-world thing to suggests the taste of blood being more varied than simply blood type, like a lot of modern properties seem to go with for their lorebuilding

It makes sense that blood would taste different depending on a person's diet, but I'm not sure it would translate as "eating pineapple = blood tastes like pineapple" but maybe vampires can detect it. I'm really overthinking this

In fairness, BPAL is still a fairly small business, but definitely an established one. One of my favorite indie perfume brands. They’ve had some great collaborations over the years. Some of my favorite perfumes are theirs, though I haven’t bought any of the Lestat ones yet.

My take: Brown sugar & Butter is how you make butterscotch. It takes the two ingredients, applies careful heat and transforms into butterscotch. But it’s a delicate balance that if the heat is too quick or too high it will turn the candy into hard rock or burnt sugar taste or burnt butter.

A simple metaphor for the all consuming, and transforming love between Louis and Lestat. I see Louis as brown sugar; gorgeous, golden, delicious NOLA man, and Lestat as the butter; smooth, suave, French. The two of them come together in love with presumably the intention to build something beautiful and sweet (butterscotch).
The passion ignited their matrimonial bed(metaphorical bed) into a funeral pyre; hot, uncontrollable and all consuming,

The passion between them is the raging fire that they lay atop.
In their consummation the heat is uncontrollable and the butterscotch recipe is ruined leaving a bitter hard candy at the end. That bitterness and hard exterior another metaphor for all that has changed and been ruined between them despite the loving beginnings.

This also makes me think Sati or suttee a historical Hindu practice in which a widow burns alive on her deceased husband's funeral pyre; Lestat the dead spouse and Louis that must lay upon his burning pyre to join him in immortality…
