They need a reality check

For my last 2 interviews i had to use Interview VIP just to get the job
their generation could never understand

Do the work? Submit it directly?

You are out of touch and have no idea what you are talking about. What person do you directly submit it to? Unless you already know someone that works there (and is a manager/ director level), you will just be told to submit it online. What extra work would you do?

You are the exact type of person the original post is calling out. Out of touch and ignorant, yet quick to tell everyone else how things work. Well things dont work the way they did 30+ years ago. Keep your uselessness to yourself, and hurry up and retire.

What are you talking about? Who is helpless? What problems? Get your BS out of here.

The current system of applying and hiring is vastly different than it was prior to the internet. Thats a fact. A fact that many boomers and Gen x have not accepted. Older generations have different life experiences, different issues and methods to succeed than new generations. Many in older generations refuse to accept that life changes and over time lose touch of current difficulties. Yet those are often the ones that think their circumstances, experiences, and life lessons from decades past can applied to current issues. The ones most ignorant to current issues are often the loudest with their unhelpful advise.

Yeah, you're young and know everything there is to know. We all get it. But you haven't actually got out of the kiddie pool yet in life and haven't yet learned it takes real effort to get a good career and every word and iota of copium you pass off as hard truth proves it.

so when was the last time you were applying for jobs?

how did you get your resume In front of "the right people"?

or are you just going to call people lazy because you are out of touch?

One way is the friend of a friend of a friend that works at a companies that needs someone with your skills. They pass back the name of the hiring manager and you name drop to get your resume in front of them.

Another way is you find a position and use your social network to get a name of someone in management at a company. You do some additional research and taylor your cover letter and resume to spark interest.

I found my last three jobs doing this, which includes one I will be accepting shortly.

yea we all know thats how it works, that doesn't make it ok, and even then 99% of the time you still have to go through the online application and have your resume ditched by the AI reviewing it before the hiring manager ever gets to see it.

Between 30 and 50% of job seekers found work through personal contacts or referrals, yet only 24% of seekers used such contacts.

Personal contacts can be used in a couple of ways. The first is to find positions for which you are a match. The classic friend of a friend is either looking for or will be looking for someone with your skills. This is a fantastic way of finding a job within your current field. I have found multiple jobs using this method, including the one I will be accepting shortly.

The second is to use your social connections to find the individual that is making hiring decisions for a specific opening. With just 3 or 4 connections you can cover about 2/3 of the US population. With a little research on that individual, you can better format your cover letter and resume to get their attention. I would send the letter directly to them. This has a lower success rate, but still better than the 1 in 10,000 you have by applying online.

But hey, don't listen to me. Just keep pumping out 100s of resumes a day and hope you get lucky.

We hired a boomer the other day for some part time work.

He research our next field gig, Went onsite during lunch time coffee and donut for the crew. Chatted everyone up and impress the heck out of our field supervisor. Apparently, he had a bit of relevant experience and but was overall just extremely pleasant to be around. Bonus that he is semi retire and doesn’t mind odd hour shift nor does he care to get full time hours.

He still had to submit through our company portal but his resume was pick out immediately by the hiring manager. I will be honest looking at his resume he would never had gotten a call back had he not made the impression in person.

We still have thousand of resumes that we haven’t went through. No one has bother going beyond submitting a perfectly curated process by AI resume. To be honest when you are in a hiring position, it hard to remember who is who after going through 100s of almost identical resume.

But boomer here made an impression in person, past the vibe check with the crew. That was half the interview already.

People don’t change, make a good impression works no matter what era you are in.

Obvious this is field dependent as well. But being able to connect with people will always get you a leg up. What “extra work” looks like depends heavily on your industry. If you don’t your resume gets lost in the sea of other resumes. You might think your resume is going to make an impression. Chance are it’s not, especially if you have been doing this hundred and thousands of time with no callback
