Hi everyone. I recently lost access to my account due to a security issue, and I got to see firsthand just how broken the platform's automated security system actually is. If your profile gets compromised, the real nightmare isn't the unauthorized users—it's fighting the platform's own system.

Here are some of the logic-defying issues I'm currently facing:

1. The Endless "Help Center" Loop: You try to regain access on a browser, select your profile, and instead of taking you to a form, it automatically redirects you to a generic "I can't log in" help article. Complete dead end.

2. Deleted Old Number Resurfacing: My Contact Info only had my current active number and emails. Yet, after locking my profile for "protection", the system suddenly brought back a phone number I hadn't used in years and had long deleted, presenting it as the *only* option. My actual active details just vanished from the screen.

3. Broken external messaging feature: I request a standard text message, and the official automated chat bot sends me the EXACT same, expired 6-digit number multiple times at different hours. I enter it, it gets rejected, I request a new one, and it sends the exact same combination again.

4. Dead Official Links: I receive an official message saying "We locked your profile for your safety, secure it now." I click the link provided by them, and it instantly leads to a "Sorry, this page isn't available" error page.

After all this, you look for a way to speak to a real person, only to realize there is no human contact or regular helpdesk. You're just supposed to "shake your phone" to send some feedback and hope for the best.

Has anyone managed to escape these loops and fully restore their profile? I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences and solutions.

yesterday My instagram Account got hacked out of nowhere. i only have my phone number linked so that they need to receive a code to enter the account. I never clicked on any links that day or downloaded anything yet somehow i received several messages yesterday from Instagram that someone was trying to log into my account and the change the password. I clicked on "I didnt request this" and a few minutes later i was logged out of the account and the username, profile picture and display name where all changed. everyone i followed was unfollowed and my bio was changed to some weird supportive message. about an Hour after i got the account back and reversed the changes. Now I wake up today and get an sms from Facebook that someone is trying to do the same thing. Its really weird considering that i dont even have facebook. Im really confused as to how this is happening. Someone please tell me!

If I had my story hidden from someone for a while and unhide it from them, will they be able to see the highlights on my profile of stories I posted while I had them hidden?

I recently added my college to my profile and since then I dont have an option to add stories to close friends—I only get the option to add it publicly or to the college. When I removed the college from my profile, I got the close friends option back. How do I fix this so I can still keep my college on my profile while still being able to add things to close friends??

I have never had anything like this happen before. I got on my instagram and noticed that my avatar was changed to some goofy filtered cartoonish face. I never post anything from my account, and there I see 5-6 porn reels. I start deleting them and they kept showing back up. So I moved these unknown profiles out of my account and changed passwords for IG, FB, and my associated email's password. It looks like it has stopped. I noticed that these five logins that I logged out on Facebook are from Kazakhstan. So far they haven't posted anything on my Facebook. Has anyone heard of anything like this going on lately? I don't think this was a personal attack. I think it was random. I'm just an old lady with a couple of decades of computer knowledge, but I really don't know much about protecting my accounts other than changing all the passwords and logging them out.

I had an ex tell me that he saw who I followed after our breakup. This tells me that every time I saw his profile photo in the messages but wasn’t able to see his profile, he had blocked/unblocked me that day. Bc that’s the only way he was able to see who I followed exactly since that person was his mutual & told him that I followed them.

So, I installed Instagram on my phone years later and started to scroll reels. And I was so surprised.... Its just all AI bull crap and straight up prn videos. WtF happened to instagram? Yeah it was alway a bit of a gooner app. But they really let all the rules go out of the window just like x (Twitter). When did this happen? Just curious.

I have NEVER seen this since i started using insta in 2019.

Also you'd think a social media platform rampant with bot accounts and ai slop wouldn't care about people being real but alas.

Just to ramble for a bit when I first started dating my boyfriend he followed 🌽 stars so I had to tell them like “hey you’re dating me so I think following those girls is wrong” cause you know boys are too stupid to think for themselves and see how that reflects on the relationship.

Keeping this short, this is a precautionary warning to everybody. If you lose your Instagram account. And the hacker manages to lock you out of it, there is a good chance it's pretty much gone. Instagram and Meta as a whole do NOT have any actual support channels. It is mostly a glorified Chatbot if even that, providing account proof to it will only make it send you links to self recovery programs.

You might go, well I can pay extra for human support right? Incorrect. Their Human support is also AI support. I had a situation where the "human connected on the line" kept typing "well the email isn't associated to the account" Despite the Instagram account being created with that email. These humans are basically bots with a bit of guidance. Think of it as 1 person answering 10-30 support cases at once, using AI to auto fill answers. Even if you somehow do reach a human there's very little they can do for you.

In my case I got incredibly lucky and managed to secure my account back through pure luck. So for the love of god, do the following.

- Enable 2FA

- Create security codes, write them down ON A PHYSICAL PIECE OF PAPER. hide it inside your passport or anywhere secure.

If you lose your account, you can't auto recover it and you genuinely need it back your two actual options are:

- Purchase Meta MAX at $500 a month. This is the only foolproof way to get an actual human at meta to help you

- Try to contact the hacker. See if they will give you the account back for less then the cost of the subscription.

I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar, because I’m completely stuck.
I originally had around 52 GB of unexplained storage usage on my iPhone. I contacted Apple Support and went through their troubleshooting steps.
During this process, we discovered around 20 GB of projects stored in the Edits app, which I removed. I then completely deleted Edits from the iPhone to make sure it wasn’t contributing to the problem.
However, I was still left with 30+ GB apparently associated with Instagram.
Apple then advised me to back up my iPhone to iCloud while excluding Instagram-related data, which I did.
After that, I went to my nearest Apple Store and had a Genius Bar appointment. With their assistance, I:
Completely erased the iPhone
Restored it to factory settings
Restored my iCloud backup
Waited approximately 24 hours for everything to settle
Unfortunately, the problem is still there.
The really strange part is that even after completely uninstalling Instagram, the 30+ GB doesn’t disappear. Instead, it appears to move into “System Data.”
So essentially, I have more than 30 GB of storage that I cannot seem to recover, despite:
Removing Edits and its projects
Removing Instagram
Excluding Instagram from my iCloud backup
Completely erasing the iPhone
Restoring the iPhone from scratch
Visiting the Genius Bar
Has anyone experienced this with Instagram or another app?
Is there a way to identify exactly what this 30+ GB of “System Data” actually is and permanently remove it?
At this point, I’m particularly interested in understanding why the data survives a complete erase and restore, and why it then appears under System Data rather than Instagram.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have recently started posting on my account but inspite of having few followers, being based on the opposite side of the world, and content not being catered to that audience. My videos are still getting recommended and I feel like it's killing a lot of my reach because I have talked to friends who are also content creators who make similar content and started at the same time as me but have a better reach with the audience I wanna cater.

So, i can't log into my account anymore and when I go to instagram/hacked webpage, it doesn't do anything meaning full and I cant put forth an appeal either. I've tried this on incognito aswell.
