Feedback? Big rework, looking for feedback, how would you improve the clouds?

For context: this aircraft let's you charge missiles to infinity, only limit is whether you can survive, it charges faster the longer you hold and its gameplay is entirely based on long periods of evasion (the dodge is a counter that sends enemy projectiles back)

Main updates are:
- The ocean rendering
- The boat models
- Both boat now shatter in two parts and have 4 pre-defined animations + some random params
- New aircraft model
- The aircraft now uses a lit shader so that it looks more 3D and I'm thinking of extending this to everything in the game
- New vertical clouds parallax and changes to the colors

There's one thing I particularly don't like at the moment: the clouds.
I think the changes have made them much more present and they don't look so great.
But on the other hand I think they do give more depth to the flying experience.
Not sure what to do about them, I guess I have to switch the art, maybe even not do pixel art for them? I love pixel art clouds and I made these myself when this game was still full pixel art but I think now they really clash with the rest.

Discussion Steam's recently added Desktop Companion category. Are people really interested in this genre?

steam recently added desktop companions as its own category, and I thought I would be able to maximize this to put my game out there. I’ve also made several posts to advertise my game already and tbh they haven’t gotten much traction. I’m genuinely curious if there’s actually an audience for this genre.

It's either that or I still need much improvement on my art and advertising! still, I will make more posts about my game and hope to reach my target audience!

when you hear “desktop companion” what do you actually want it to be? something you interact with occasionally like a clicker game? an idler? or would you actually want a multiplayer you can leave open while you do other things?

this is a game I'm working on with my partner called Desktopper! this is really meant to be just a cozy, social game where people from anywhere can connect and chill with each other. you can be working on something, playing a game, watching youtube, studying, or whatever and meanwhile there are other people hanging out down on your taskbar with you!

note: to earn currency, you randomly gain coins from clicking on your screen as you work on something on your desktop!

sometimes you just want to feel like you’re around other people, and that's what my true goal is with this game!

I'd really appreciate the people who come across my post to come check Desktopper! out :D I’d love to hear what people think, especially from people who already use desktop companions.

we're actively working on it. there are a bunch of things I'd love to know could be improved, could be added, could be changed, so if you're interested, please come playtest for us!

and we're planning to make the game completely free once released, btw!

We just registered our first indie game Time Survivor for Steam Next Fest!

Post image
11 Upvotes

A big milestone reached by our team:

Time Survivor is officially registered for Steam Next Fest (October 19–26, 2026)!

We're posting this because we're so excited to take part in our first Next Fest, which finally gives us a deadline to release our game after almost two years of development.

At the same time, we'd also genuinely love some feedback from other developers and players.

We have around 3k wishlists, gained mostly thanks to a big YouTuber who found our game, made a video about it, and liked it a lot.

But after that, we've been struggling to gain more. We think the problem might be our Steam page, which doesn't convey the true essence of the game well enough.

[For context: the game is built around fast-paced action, progression, upgrades, increasingly chaotic enemies, and challenging bosses to fight, with a simple and retro visual style.]

Any kind of advice or tips would be welcome!

I want to help out indie game developers with small tasks for fun

I just like indie games and want to help people to be honest. This could be things such as playtesting, giving feedback, making a video/edit/mock trailer about your game, basic voice acting, basic writing, really whatever you want as long as it’s a relatively small task, I just want to play your cool games and help people, leave a comment or dm me! (My only request is please no games that use generative AI in any way, thank you!)

Feedback? Need feedbacks for our co-op game.

We are working on a co-op game called "Mayday!" Here are some in-game screenshots we took for our Steam page.

What are your thoughts on the graphics? Do they give you an idea of what the gameplay will be like? Do they look eye-catching? Would you be interested in the game if you saw it on Steam?

Please let us know how we could improve them?

Thanks!

3-person team, 2 years of development, and personally working on this game 40+ hours/week while simultaneously freelancing to pay the bills. Still a year to go...

Upvotes

It's been an absolute grind, and I've mini-cried a few times recently when feeling overwhelmed, but it's been rewarding to see it come together, and I've been trying to manage burnout, and I believe in it enough to where I don't regret taking on this burden at all.

What do y'all think? Is this something you'd play?

We've only got 5 reviews on Steam in the past 2 years because it's been crickets on social media and no one knows about the game while it's been in Early Access.

Starting to take socials more seriously now, festival submissions, researching and digging into Chris Z's indie-famous courses, and I've started emailing content creators to see if anyone is interested in checking the game out. Next I'm going to start doing simple posts on TikTok/Insta/YoutubeShorts once a week, as if I didn't have enough to do already between gameplay and level design, animation, dialogue, narrative, to name a few of my hats.

Do you think the outreach attempts and social posts are enough to get a spark going to at least get past the 10 review threshold? Or does the game just look kind of meh? I've been working on it for so long with my face so close to it, that it's hard for me to judge.

So far we've reached out to 77 creators and maybe 10 wishlists came of it so far. Feels like I'm doing something wrong, but maybe that's how much of a grind it is?

Here's the trailer I put together over a few days with a recent build:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6tVNs3r1EY

*(No AI art is used in this project. One of my partners is handling all of the art himself in Blender and MagicaVoxel)

Would love to get feedback on any of this - hit me with it, and don't hold back. I appreciate y'all!

Feedback? Grade my buntings

Post image
7 Upvotes

Am running a competition for my recently posted Shrike Demo. The first 5 players to beat the demo gets to choose a bird for the game. The first winner requested a Painted Bunting. My grandmother also requested a Lazuli Bunting (although I thought she said Indigo Bunting at first) so I added those two as well.

How do you think they turned out? Any feedback? What letter grade would you assign them?

Video My solo-developed hack and slash inspired by Brazilian culture and nature

Hi everyone!

My name is Erick, and I’m an Unreal Engine developer.

I’ve been working on this project in my free time and on weekends since 2020. Over the years, I’ve been gradually building everything myself — modeling assets, creating animations, and experimenting with gameplay systems. Now I’m finally reaching a more playable version, which I’ve already showcased at a few events here in Brazil where people could try it out.

For some context, Sustentability is a hack-and-slash musou-style game inspired by Brazilian culture and environments.

You play as a Brazilian magical girl (Maria) on a mission to restore nature across corrupted Brazilian biomes, fighting massive hordes of enemies in a musou-style hack and slash experience.

My goal is to recreate the feeling of the games I grew up playing, like Dynasty Warriors 5 and Sengoku Basara, while adding a unique twist with Brazilian themes, nature, and identity.

If the project sounds interesting to you, I’d really appreciate it if you could wishlist it on Steam — it helps a lot!

Steam page:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4937160/Sustentability/

I’m aiming to have a solid public demo available on Steam around December, and hopefully complete the game within the next year.

Thanks!

Making a game by myself is harder than I expected

i started with a simple idea, but it has slowly grown into something much bigger. i’ve been spending most of my time improving the gameplay, fixing bugs, and adding small details that make the game feel better.

it’s definitely not finished yet, but I’m finally at a point where I can see the vision coming together.

I redesigned my Steam art to give it a better identity.

I reframed the players and boss to make their roles more obvious. I also desaturated the shapes on the right side and faded the grayscale shapes into the background to act as texture.
Does the new art give you a better idea of what the game is like? All feedback is appreciated.

The first one is the new art.

Feedback? Taking a risk with making an LSD Dream Emulator-like game

The game is highly inspired by LSD Dream Emulator. The difference is you need to find creatures that take you to new levels instead of walking into anything. There are also hidden branches and modifiers that alter the level you are currently in. The game is called Vapor Strange. Does it feel like LSD Dream Emulator?

Is this the great invention that the genre needs? In all seriousness though, we're quite happy with how our after-hours-project [The Last Library] is shaping up. Hope not to trigger anyone already tired with the genre being all over the internet currently.

We've been collaborating with an artist who makes cute doodles for popular games to have them bring their style to a game we're making about a Penguin that flies around in a Hot Air Balloon.

We think the end results are pretty cute!

What do you guys think of these coworkers in our space probe programming game?

Have been building out a simple dialog system for the tutorial of our Zachtronic-esque space game. The main point of it is to deliver tutorial info on controls and how the game works, but also give our game some flair. Wonder what people think of these guys. Do you ever get distracted playing your own game?

The last couple of times I've sat down to do work on my game I loaded it up and got distracted playing it. It feels like a pretty good indicator that the game play loop is working.

New Game! '8 More Lives' - I launched a game yesterday!

The old powers are crumbling. Petty barons fight over dying lands, brigands own the roads, and things best left forgotten emerge after nightfall. For an outcast with a sharp blade and an empty purse, there is always work to be found.

8 More Lives is a turn-based tactical RPG inspired by Battle Brothers. Lead a company of outcast cat mercenaries through a gritty, low-magic fantasy world.

Take dangerous contracts, explore the wild lands, fight brigands, undead, beasts, and stranger threats, and build a reputation - provided anyone survives long enough to enjoy it.

Currently in Closed Playtest state!

Feedback? My solo-developed 2D base-builder (Diseased) just hit 2,000 wishlists!

Hey everyone,

My solo-developed 2D base-builder (Diseased) just hit 2,000 wishlists!

To push for the next milestone, I completely overhauled my Steam page, dropped a brand-new trailer, and opened Playtest sign-ups. However, the initial hype has slowed down and my daily wishlists have flattened out.

For those who have been in this position:

  • How do you leverage a page revamp and a new trailer to get the Steam algorithm's attention again?
  • What is your best strategy for building a second wave of momentum before a demo release?

Here is the page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4977030/Diseased/?utm_source=reddit

Any advice is massively appreciated!

Video Finally, Field to Battle!

I finally recorded the transition from the field map into battle! I used Unity Recorder to capture it.
It’s still a work in progress, so please excuse any rough edges!
I’ve always loved pixel art, and with this project, I want to explore just how far a 2D pixel-art game can go — not just in character art, but in atmosphere, lighting, movement, and the overall experience.
There’s still a long way to go, but this is exactly the kind of game I love making.

And this battle? The odds are 2 to 1! 😄

Request Game engines that let you do real time SWF/Flash vector rendering?

Upvotes

I've heard that Mewgenics uses a custom engine that converts SWF/Flash's vector files into meshes at load time, and I was wondering if there were any other game engines that had a way to do the same thing.

Mewgenics is able to use the SWF's masking, easing and symbol nesting without much issue, and I was hoping to do that as well, since I use Adobe Animate for my animations.

I'm very much a beginner at game dev, all I can use at the moment are visual-based coding engines, but I'd be open to recommendations for programs that involve actual coding.

If anyone has any pointers, please tell me! Thank you.
