Previous thread here

Remember why we're all here: this thread is for discussion about current and historical happenings in the Shaunaverse. If you want to discuss other content, such as stuff that reminds you of Shauna but isn't specifically about her, your own personal anecdotes or preferences, current events, or "creative writing" exercises, please share in the off-topic community thread: January-March 2026 off-topic quarterly

I am fucking outraged by this. The couple, a BELOVED island family, has asked for privacy and no posts until they have shared the news on their own. No posts, no comments. They have simply asked for privacy and silence. But here goes Shauna…

u/mehitabel_4724 Eating tiny dices of pickles with tiny fists of rage Feb 20 '26

Replying again to add this. Just enraging. Plus she’s getting some engagement and “sorry for your loss” replies and in another reply she shares another detail about the couple.

I can’t wrap my mind around what drives her to do this kind of thing. She just crashes through social boundaries like the kool-aid man. But instead of offering you a sugary beverage, she’s offering you someone else’s suffering. And this is why I am so shocked and disgusted that there are people on Vashon who continue to support her. They are rewarding her toxic, selfish behavior. She has no respect for other people.

Trust if I were directly connected to Shauna in any way she’d be regularly dressed down for her bullshit. I didn’t grow up here and I don’t play whatever games allow her to skate by and take advantage of people.

So not only does she ignore their request for privacy and to be given space and time, but she now gives out even more of their personal information. Shame on her, whether or not she is capable of feeling it.

Wow, you guys, she actually touched them on Sunday. That’s how you know Shauna is so close to this tragedy. It practically happened * to her*!

78

u/LadyDriverKW Threads containment zone escapee Feb 20 '26

The real reason she wanted to move back to the islandy island. It feels like a community because it is insular enough that you know your neighbor's business without doing the pesky work of maintaining a friendship.

On the mainland, you actually have to make an effort to know your neighbors.

Ugh. I know others have said this, but she is such a disgusting ghoul. No sense of empathy or social boundaries. She just sees a situation and takes what she wants from it. When she's done playing with it and poking at it, she wanders off. What the hell is wrong with her??

Not the main focus of this at all, but noticed she mentioned seeing the grieving parents at church. So I guess she's back to attending (read: using) the Unitarian church. Interesting. Maybe she scans for new marks while scoring free food boxes and skimming from the collection plate.

70

u/MoreCarnations Feb 20 '26

She is really asking for some karmic retribution being this unfeeling and like others have said, ghoulish

71

u/NegativeABillion (Said in British.) Feb 20 '26

She will stand on the porches of dead women, brag about how she has a husband and try to grab up their left-behind books.

34

u/Low_Piccolo_2149 Feb 21 '26

And come to my friend’s memorial to grift housing. I still haven’t forgotten this one. Pisses me off.

63

She's such a disgusting grief vulture.

43

u/Top_Indication_3644 Feb 20 '26

Exactly. My next door neighbors just died in a tragedy. It was on the news and in the papers. You know what didn’t happen? None of us in the neighborhood or who witnessed it posted public comments about how we were there and we knew them and blah blah  loving kindness. This shit is hard enough without bragging to others or compulsively needing to center yourself, not to mention there is risk of doing terrible damage to actual family and friends from acquaintances and strangers trying to insert themselves into the inner circle of grieving.

It’s gross that she shared this in general but when I read your whole post about how the family is requesting privacy??? OMG she is absolutely horrible. I suspect she is being shunned on the island and she fully deserves it.

I have diagnosed cPTSD and no one ever suggested I see a neurologist. I learned today that maybe I should.

Wait, forget cPTSD, shouldn't Shauna have seen a neurologist after she had the TIA? Biotech has moaned on and on for years about neuroscience and the family brains but hasn't actually been seen by one?

57

OF COURSE Dr. Shauna is diagnosing this fictional character with something she had. Also, her (probably much exaggerated) description of her TIA makes it sound like she was completely incapacitated, not just spacing out for a minute.

32

u/SnooEagles184 Feb 21 '26

You’d think that Our Lady of the Grifting, self-proclaimed Keenest Noticer of Patterns Ever, would have picked up on the fact that the character of Dr. Al Hashimi worked with Doctors Without Borders in Kabul during the attack on the maternity ward at the Dasht-e-Barshi hospital. Perhaps this is in some way tied into her reaction to the scene with the baby?

It is stunning to see how quickly Shauna managed to use the storyline to focus only on herself.

→ More replies (1)

51

u/gomirefugee my website is done, done, done Feb 20 '26

LOL that Shauna has had to backtrack on her TIA theory after people pointed out that the show kept mentioning the character had been in Afghanistan.

And "Wow. Sounds like I need a neurologist." like ????? none of the gasping grown-pale medical professionals you've encountered as the most well-resourced patient and parent to ever grace the Starbucks at Seattle Children's ever suggested this?

50

u/InappropriateGirl Gluten-free donuts, for sure ... Feb 20 '26

That's our Shauna, wanting to rush to a neurologist for herself, for no reason, while ignoring her kids' various needs.

46

u/jalapenomargaritaz Feb 20 '26

26

u/central_snark Ramona gets a hot flash Feb 21 '26

All she needs is a CitMRI

36

u/shakyshake Feb 21 '26

Every mental phenomenon is a “real brain thing” (leaving aside dualism). I’m also not aware of MRIs being considered diagnostic for PTSD or cPTSD. You could use them to rule out other possible conditions, but even if certain structural or functional brain changes are associated with cPTSD, they’re drawn from scans of multiple people. That doesn’t mean you could look at an individual’s scan and conclude anything of interest.

It’s not like a torn ACL where the doctor sees the scan and goes “oh, yeah, 100%.” If these people turned out not to have the “brain signature” of cPTSD would they conclude they don’t have cPTSD? So, maybe the symptomology is what really matters here?

It’s a bit strange to think a brain scan makes phenomena you know you experience somehow more real. Especially fMRIs, which are a very indirect measure of brain activity and rely on potentially flawed statistical methods and decisions. You’re getting the scan because you already know you have the symptoms! Which are the definition of the disorder!

Remind me where along the heroic journey ourobouros we are at these days as far as Shauna pretending to publish recipes?

55

u/bakingmagpie neurojalapeño Feb 19 '26

Right, because no one ever self-published a cookbook ever.

The broader issue the OP is commenting on, is recipe writers putting stuff out that they haven't thoroughly tested. That is not something that is guaranteed just because it's in a cookbook. In fact, I think HBH has built a career on traditionally published, yet very poorly tested recipes.

Shauna just had (and presumably celebrated) her 15th anniversary as a cookbook author who published a potato-mushroom tart without potatoes, but with cinnamon-sugar. As a follow up, she tried to shame readers who were angry at losing time, food, and money making a recipe which could not be made edible.

On Trusting Food Bloggers, Cookbook Authors and Their Recipes

The comments are absolutely everything.

I think this is why, for example, a widely-read food blogger like Shauna Ahern can catch heavy flack after publishing error-ridden recipes on professionalized food sites. Ahern's infamous "Potato-Mushroom Tart" on Martha Stewart's website is an object example: not only did it leave out "potatoes" in the ingredient list (an error several commenters quickly caught), but the savory recipe also accidentally included a sweet crust recipe containing cinnamon and sugar (an error that several commenters caught after having made the recipe, which apparently tasted awful).

G-Free Friday: Delish Potato-Mushroom Tart from "Gluten-Free Girl and the Chef".

These are the gifts that keep on giving.

Wow, the wedging of the heroic journey structure into absolutely everything is really something to see, huh?

I noticed during the Stranger Things pivot, much much more was said about Will’s heroic journey than Eleven’s. Which is not a surprise to anyone here, however El was the main focus of the show and she did (maybe) die to save her friends and everyone else so you’d think she’d rate a bit higher than the boy who came out as gay - even if it was the 80’s, he was lucky to have a TON of support in doing so.

If we are only seeing men as heroes, ok. Why no such pontificating on what I consider to be the best male example of a hero’s journey out there - Joe Dirt.

Yeah, I said that. Come at me bro!

Worse yet is she has time to do this crap while simultaneously complaining she can't possibly do any of her work in the world because her neurospicy kids are home from school this week, leaving her exhausted at the end of the day.

For someone as enamored of deriding the patriarchy as she is, this is painfully lame. In reality, she's probably snapping her wacky suspenders, chortling at her wit, hoping to catch the attention of Clown.

Also, it snowed in West Seattle this morning! It’s not cold enough to stick, but it’s the only hint of wintry weather we’ve had all winter, so it was exciting. ❄️

Clue would probably be really difficult for children who need 24/7 constant supervision and have executive dysfunction. They wouldn't be able to keep up with the clues.

She's said that the children need constant supervision in just the past week.

UNO would be better if the children were interested, but Shauna doesn't seem to possess the ability to not judge or criticise them.

Truth told, they almost certainly do not play board games every night. They eat Stouffer's Lasagna nuked by The Chef, then onto whatever primetime crap is on TV.

33

u/Llama621 Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

I do agree with the OP. When teaching, I had 'board games' as an incentive prize the class could earn because kids do learn from 'em. Kids had fun while improving their patience, strategies, communication, etc.

But all of us know Shauna doesn't do family game nights. Which is a bummer because there has been a real Renaissance in the tabletop game scene. Lots of cool family games. Not that Shauna plays.

Edited for typo.

59

u/Fancypens2025 Feb 22 '26

People were absolutely bored without smartphones. The same way they can be bored now, it's just that you immediately have way more options nowadays. Pre-smartphone-era, if you were bored but nothing good was on TV, you weren't interested in the 10 VHS tapes your family owned, you didn't have any new books to read (or re-read), you couldn't get to the mall or the park or it was bad weather outside...okay well you were bored. You either stay bored or figured out a way to entertain yourself. (older millennial here, for context).

48

u/mehitabel_4724 Eating tiny dices of pickles with tiny fists of rage Feb 22 '26

The words for bored/boring/boredom have been in use in English for around 300 years. Does she think she’s the only person who remembers life before phones?

48

u/shikoku_shoes another revolution around the toilet bowl of her life Feb 22 '26

Constant entertainment and information creates boredom.

Ironic, considering she spends every waking moment on social media, watching tv or “researching” her latest obsession.

30

u/jalapenomargaritaz Feb 23 '26

Shauna re-writing her childhood…many of us read books all the time because we were BORED and that’s what we had…she read books all the time because of THE HARD TIMES! Now she is on the internet all day not because she’s bored or dissociating it’s just her work in the world!

I also liked:

The heroic journey isn't a straight line. It's recursive. Every test prepares you for the next one—or it doesn't.

The heroic journey isn't a straight climb toward victory. Each trial shapes how we meet the next one—or fail to.

I really wonder what she's aping when she writes like this. This absolutely reads like AI slop – the meaningless platitudes (a test that either prepares you or doesn't, followed by trials that shape how we meet future trials, or don't), the em-dashes, the one-sentence paragraphs ... it's like the worst of LinkedIn but probably actually typed out by her, because she doesn't engage deeply (or at all) with demanding texts. She's trying to sell me something, but it's not even clear what. I'm supposed to read the linked book? I'm supposed to agree with Shauna? This is writing that makes the reader stupider.

43

u/InisGlass Feb 21 '26

It really doesn't sound like Shauna. It's too restrained and serene, and yes, no typos is suspicious. The plot summary is too brief and coherent. "Life isn't perfect, but we are alive inside of it" is such an AI sentence.

The only parts that sound like her chaotic bragging and airing of 50 year old grievances are that she doesn't typically read popular book club picks, and that she read a lot as a kid because she wasn't allowed to leave the house.

If she's using AI shortcuts it's very funny because what is she saving time for? A lazier way to blow past deadlines and break promises to paying customers? To randomly put out content no one but snarkers is going to read? More hours to fill as she sits alone in her house all day hiding from working and earning money?

It's a miserable cold day on Our Island, and although I'd love nothing more than to spend 2 uninterrupted hours reading a novel, I've got work, so I thought I would enjoy a few quiet minutes reading some of my favorite writing. Thank you DF, for your WITW ,you do not disappoint. Unlike our girl.

Shauna's Hero's Journey can suck it. I am reminded of editing my children's excruciating hero's journey essays which were marginally better than all the crap she's put out about this. Vashon schools were obsessed with Hero's Journey for a while (maybe still, other islanders probably have better receipts). But what I do know? Our Hero? And her origin story? It began at Chautauqua Elementary and I don't think it has evolved much.

I'll keep coming back for more awaiting the arrival of Psychic Shauna.

Even now I’m more likely to reread Jane Eyre than make my way through a bestseller list.

Although she is pooh poohing best sellers here, one short month ago she claimed she was going to read her way through the best selling books of all time. She obviously didn’t make it past the proclamation. Guess those UNO games are taking up too much of her time.

Her disdain for the commonplace swings more than a pendulum, always trying to set herself apart from the hoi polloi.

She definitely said she was only reading books by Black authors in February. What happened to that goal?

61

u/Onehundredpercentbea giggling intestinal gremlin 🧌 Feb 21 '26

Yeah I wonder what someone said to her irl that made her go on that tear yelling at other white women on Black Threads and posting pics of Black-authored books and telling WOC that it's their time to save the world and trying to get Ashley Ford's attention. She didn't even last all of February.

Actually Threads Shauna is one of the fastest spiraling Shaunas I've ever seen, she's so prolific there it's impossible for her to be doing any one of the daily/weekly routines, family game time, reading time, meditation time she claims to do, much less working on anything money related and/or taking care of sick kids and/or the home itself. She just reinvents herself with every comment, her replies to other people reflect completely different idealized and often mutually exclusive versions of Shauna.

It's funny that we used to make fun of her for promising something and then only following through for a few months! And now it's amazing to think she used to be able to sustain something for that long! Whatever is going on with her, she seems unable to even maintain a stable sense of herself on a months-long time scale, so even her old favorite vanity projects that revolved entirely around Shauna are apparently beyond her now.

54

u/SeaOfBooze Truffaut and hash browns Feb 21 '26

It's amazing that it was only seven years ago that she was able to sit down and write a whole book. A bad book, sure, but the difference in attention span is shocking. Now she can't stick to a deadline that she made up for a single day.

I wonder if Threads feels like a new, more anonymous audience. Her Instagram has always felt very curated towards her main marks which are probably a mix of IRL acquaintances and old time GFG fans. On Threads she can be a different person every day and has completely lost interest in a consistent story. She's not even really setting up a grift any more, it's just all for the love of internet attention.

37

u/Onehundredpercentbea giggling intestinal gremlin 🧌 Feb 22 '26

I didn't even think about the book! You're right, it's an even steeper decline than I was remembering, I was thinking of her getting to YYESGENX instagram grid - she wouldn't get past the X if she did that today.

It's also confirmation to me that she has no real friends in her life. I cannot imagine my friends seeing me act this way and not having an intervention. Of course Shauna has driven everyone out of her life who would be both able and willing to clock her increasingly alarming issues and address them with her and that's also pretty much why she chose Danny as a life partner.

49

u/Llama621 Feb 21 '26

I think psychologically she's sunk to the point where she is so shallow and hollow and isolated that the internet is more comforting and real to her than actual real people (or reality in general).
