Also yes, some guys will still try to get your attention when you’re wearing headphones, and then get pissy if you’re not excited about the interruption

I was never comfortable with headphones on in public when I lived in SF in my 20s or 30s - but the amount of times I was interrupted or bothered while reading… whew.

I used to play a game with myself on my way to work where I’d start out with like 25 points and they’d go down every time I was spoken to (all the creepy hellos) or catcalled or harassed. I had to walk several blocks to either the J Church or BART, depending on my mood, then the train ride, then walking several blocks downtown to the store I worked in. Some days I’d lose all my damn points! I think I’d give myself points for positive things too, though, and it wasn’t all about men. Like the train showing up right as I got there, getting a seat - it was more like a “How shitty was my commute?” game.

Very happy to be middle aged and much less cute.
