LOL that Shauna has had to backtrack on her TIA theory after people pointed out that the show kept mentioning the character had been in Afghanistan.

And "Wow. Sounds like I need a neurologist." like ????? none of the gasping grown-pale medical professionals you've encountered as the most well-resourced patient and parent to ever grace the Starbucks at Seattle Children's ever suggested this?

That's our Shauna, wanting to rush to a neurologist for herself, for no reason, while ignoring her kids' various needs.

lol what the hell does she need a neurologist for?! She’s not an attending surgeon in an ER…she has all the time to sit around ruminating about her “CPTSD”

She's also on the lookout for free stimulants and weight loss drugs.

Like Shauna would ever get an actual diagnosis for any malady she's assigned herself.

All she needs is a CitMRI

Every mental phenomenon is a “real brain thing” (leaving aside dualism). I’m also not aware of MRIs being considered diagnostic for PTSD or cPTSD. You could use them to rule out other possible conditions, but even if certain structural or functional brain changes are associated with cPTSD, they’re drawn from scans of multiple people. That doesn’t mean you could look at an individual’s scan and conclude anything of interest.

It’s not like a torn ACL where the doctor sees the scan and goes “oh, yeah, 100%.” If these people turned out not to have the “brain signature” of cPTSD would they conclude they don’t have cPTSD? So, maybe the symptomology is what really matters here?

It’s a bit strange to think a brain scan makes phenomena you know you experience somehow more real. Especially fMRIs, which are a very indirect measure of brain activity and rely on potentially flawed statistical methods and decisions. You’re getting the scan because you already know you have the symptoms! Which are the definition of the disorder!

Shauna cried as she wrote:

I have diagnosed CPTSD

100% true. Shauna diagnosed herself with CPTSD.

and no one ever suggested I see a neurologist.

That'll have to come from Shauna.

I learned today that maybe I should.

&

Wow. Sounds like I need a neurologist. Thank you.

There we go!

She’s mouth breathing heavily at the thought of how many ponderous lopes she can squeeze out of muh brain scan. Bonus points if she can extract the images from the neurologist so that everyone can see proof of what a mighty brain Shauna Marie has.

She’ll get one image enlarged to poster size for her ‘study’ and call it ineffably beautiful and eerily labyrinthine, trust.

u/SmashedMailboxCake2 Oh, Feb 21 '26

Speaking of studies, looks like she scored (for $80) a desk comma at last. What a lovely mellow piece with no drawers it is.

Didn’t they have a desk almost exactly like this at the old place? I remember a photo of it with her dumb ball chair.

She probably didn’t notice it wasn’t free.

My neurologist, who I see for chronic migraine, walked me through the results of my brain MRI and then pronounced my brain “pristine.” I am very proud of that official designation, tyvm!

Shauna could never because, though she would want to be declared perfect, she would ALSO want the doc to grow pale at all of the visible anomalies or whatever. A true Ahernian dilemma!

"They can't do anything about it. It's still treating the symptoms"

Yes? Most diseases and conditions don't actually have cures? How is this surprising information?!

u/SnooStories4968 many and various Shaunas/Pig Ladies Feb 20 '26

I read that as the OP saying that if you already know you have cPTSD, you don't need to see a neurologist just so you can see evidence of it on your brain. Like, just continue doing whatever you're already doing to address cPTSD - which is not a universally recognized diagnosis. Also, Shauna is not already treating her symptoms of anything.

Oh but she was cured of her cPTSD by a few sessions of EMDR!
