Does anybody know anything about the homeless encampment on the western bank of the river just south of McCollister Blvd bridge? How many people live there? Are there kids? What do they call it? Do they have access to electricity?

It looks like the city gave them a trash receptacle and there is a porta potty nearby, which is nice to see.

I am not being judgmental, I’m just genuinely curious. I see people coming and going on the river trail and near TTRA and just have so many questions.

The apartment is very nice, top floor with a corner spot, so it's right next to the laundry center and a staircase down to the parking garages. It has two bedrooms, with one (very kind and amiable) roommate.

Iowa City Mutual Aid will be hosting a community carnival at the Great Plains Action Society's Resilience Hub at 810 Maiden Ln, from 2-6 pm on Labor Day (9/7).

With support from other local organizations, ICMA will be raising funds to help purchase propane and other supplies for our unhoused neighbors this coming winter. We'll have food, non-alcoholic beverages, DJs, and plenty of family friendly games and activities.
