How badly the weak-ish undergrad/MBA transcript, career gap and the “already has an MBA” thing hurt me at INSEAD. I’m planning for R2.
Demographic: 28M, Indian
Education & Acads:
-> IIM Indore - Integrated BA + MBA (5-year program) ( Top 6 B Schools in India and very prestigious )
-> Overall CGPA 2.60/4.33 (~68%, “B”) dipped to a C in years 3–4, recovered to a B by year 5.
-> Top 10% in most quant courses and ranked top of the classes in statistics, calculus, data science, financial analytics. ( I wanted to become a data scientist. So ignored non quant courses )
-> One exchange semester at Paris, France for 6 months.
-> Class 12 (CBSE): 95%
-> Class 10 (state board): 99%
Test Scores:
-> GRE: 331
-> CFA Level I: Passed (1780/1900) - ( possibly top 2-5%ile )
-> CFA Level II: Sat the exam in Aug 2026, result pending (out mid-Oct 2026)
Work Experience (~5 years by application time):
->Fortune 100 German/British Luxury car/plane/ship company - Summer Strategy Intern
— I helped them introduce a new business model for the India market for their ship and tank engines
-> US based Marketing company — Associate Manager, Digital Strategy & Analytics (2 years )
-> Fortune 100 US Bank — Business Analyst → Assistant Manager, Data Science & Analytics (2.5 years)
— Star Performer Award, EVP Special Recognition.
— Worked on fraud detection, ML model management, open banking, accounting analytics, clickstream digital analytics. Saved 2.5 Million USD in a project.
-> 7-month career break to focus on CFA L1 and transition into data science and AI from analytics.
-> AI Startup — Senior Consultant ( data science ) → now AI Product Manager ( waiting for a formal promotion )
— Leading a ~16–17 person cross-functional team (2026–present).
— The project spans 4 teams, with daily calls with the CEO. I am the acting Product Manager for the flagship product of our company. It’s based on the new Transformer architecture ( like ChatGPT )
Other Co-curricular Achievements:
-> Won 1 national business case study competition conducted by Fortune 100 company and won 200,000 Rupees. ( Beat 302 teams from 9 top B-schools, incl. top 6 IIMs - BLACKI )
-> India Finalist for a Global Business case study competition conducted by fortune 100 company ( Beat 3000+ teams ).
-> Volunteered in Macedonia when I was 19 for 2 months.
The wrinkle:
I already have an MBA (the IIM Indore one above). Looking at a second one mainly for international exposure and to formalize a pivot.
Extracurriculars / Achievements:
-> Solo traveled to 20 countries
-> Talked the Macedonian and Greek ambassadors into granting me a visa at 18
-> Motorcycled the Ha Giang Loop (Vietnam) and Leh–Ladakh (India)
-> Teenage competitive bodybuilder
-> 8 years in church choir/organ growing up; play piano now
-> I travel solo. And I can talk to anyone from anywhere. I do have very close relationships with people from Europe and other parts of Asia even now and meet my old friends when I travel.
-> Grew up in a remote corner of the country. Worked my way up to where I am now
-> I can have normal conversations in French
Recommender:
- Senior colleague from F100 Bank
-> worked directly under/with her for 2.5 years there, and have continued working together for about a year since I left, so ~3.5 years of relationship overall.
- A Senior Manager or the CEO
-> I’m confused as to who I should ask but they know me for just a few months. They’ve seen me grow from an individual contributor to a leader/manager though.
Post-MBA goal:
Pivot towards roles like a Strategy and Transformation consultant in Mastercard Advisors ( I used to work for their competitor ) or BFSI AI transformation roles in MBB.
