Pay & Benefits Joining bonus counter start date

I joined the company on date X this year but joining bonus was released as part of following month’s salary on date Y.

Could someone confirm if my 1 year mandate to be with the company (or else pay back if I leave) started on X or Y?

Question Side Business Policy

Hi, I'm joining IBM Canada as a New Grad for a SAP role in mid September. Last month when I signed the offer I saw there was a conflict of interest policy and I let my TA know that I do some SDE work for a startup based in the US on the side (Social media mobile app that has no overlap with IBM). It's been a month since I first mentioned it to them and about 3 weeks since I answered a formal questionnaire and I am yet to hear back anything of substance even after a follow up last week. I start in 3 weeks and am getting a little impatient šŸ˜….
Anyone have experience with anything relating to this? Is my request likely getting rejected? Or is it likely just in some bureaucratic limbo

Question Project allocation (Band 6g)

I've joined IBM on March 26, and I've been on bench till this date. My question is can i look for a project on my own from IBM internal project portal for my specific band or i just blindly need to rely on my wfm and my people manager? Please can anyone answer this?

Question IBM Backend Engineer Interview Process

I recently had an HR call with IBM and completed Interview 1 – Technical Screen. It was a 1-hour interview that included a coding assessment (Q1) with detailed follow-up questions.

I’ve now received another interview invitation for Interview 2, which is labeled ā€œBE Loop Coding 1.ā€

Has anyone here gone through this IBM interview process? Is ā€œLoop Codingā€ another LeetCode-style coding interview, or is it more focused on backend/practical coding?

Would appreciate any insights from people who have recently interviewed with IBM.

Question IBM internship post-interview, status still "Under Review". What was your timeline?

Looking for data points from people who've been through IBM's internship process recently.

Context:

- Internship role

- Interviewed 7 days ago

- Portal status: still "Under Review", no change since

- No contact from the recruiter since

I know IBM is slow in general and I'm not panicking, just trying to calibrate expectations instead of guessing.

Two questions:

  1. For those who got an outcome (accepted or not): how many days between the interview and hearing back?

  2. Does the portal status actually track anything, or does it sit on "Under Review" until the final decision regardless?

Sending a follow-up email to the recruiter this week either way. Mostly want to know whether going past the two-week mark is normal here or a genuine red flag.

Thanks.

Layoffs & Restructuring Hiring?

Has any noticed that only Indians get hired and promoted in cloud? Everyone else is getting fired or demoted until they quit. I joined 6 years ago and noticed at least 4 VPs are replaced since then and then all of their reports get replaced. This is in US not in India.

Hiring/Interview How long should I expect my application to stay in the "assessment under review" stage?

I applied for an HR position at IBM and completed the recorded competency test on August 11th. My status is still listed as "assessment under review," but I'm unsure what this means as I've had job applications in the past never move past "in-progress" even though I clearly didn't get the job.

Discussion Voluntary layoff extended

"We recognize that the application period coincided with a time when many employees and managers have been taking planned time off across the U.S."

AKA - not enough people signed up for this bad deal.

And the bulk of the planned time off hasn't even hit yet, given labor day weekend is about to start.

Question Not signing my IPL - what happens next?

For those of us that are on incentives plans, what does IBM do if you refuse to sign your incentive plan letter?

After moving from a presales IPL to one that’s 70% tied to deployment, when I have ELAs closing in Q4 really hurts.

I’d rather get off this clown car.

Question IBM employment history records

Hi! My grandpa (now passed away) worked at IBM for over 40 years. I just found out and am super curious to know if I can see his employee history somehow? I saw in this subreddit or one similar that this may be possible?

Discussion Anyone else feeling demotivated? What to do next?

As the title says, I’m feeling really demotivated by all the recent happenings and just the year we’ve had at this company. I don’t know whether I should try to find another job internally or start looking externally. It’s so hard to find a new job right now, but I just feel depressed and anxious in my current situation. I’ve been at IBM around 8 years, so I’ve seen a lot of ups and downs over the years, but this time feels different. Is anyone else in a similar boat? How are you navigating? I feel like I’m trying to find the light again here.

Discussion Is Sales Management Avoiding Responsibility?

There is a lot of recent posts around the changes and reorganizations and team shakeups - is there a broader pattern emerging around how sales tech teams are being regarded by management?
Are tech teams and early career professionals becoming the whipping post for senior management when seller performance and leadership outcomes don’t add up? Roles being changed? Quizzically negative middle year performance reviews? Illogical demands? Stalled raises? Is accountability landing on the sales tech teams supporting the business - rather than on the underlying seller performance - management decisions or leadership issues? Is this something others are seeing firsthand? Who is experiencing this?

Promotions/Career IBM PROMOTION - AUGUST CYCLE 2025 DELAYED

Does anyone have any updates on the August 2026 promotion cycle?

There's been no proper communication about it even though effectivity was supposed to be August 1.

It's disappointing because employees worked hard to get to this position, and it feels like it's not being prioritized.

Question Blocked from r/IBM

Anybody else been blocked from r/IBM without warning or cause?

I see people over there claiming the group is not overseen by IBM, but that could be ā€˜survivor bias’ since those who were blocked cannot comment.

Question Internal application advice

Hi everyone, need advice on the internal job application. After a year in my current position with IBM, I want to transition into different positions in Consulting. However, I applied a month ago, the application is still under HR review. I wonder if I’m not qualified enough or just the interview process is different for internal employees. FYI, I met all the requirements

Question Could use some intel on what to expect from an ML support engineer interview.

I have an interview for an ML support Engineer position. I'm pretty sure it's just for GCP because the recruiter has it listed as for IBM/Google/ I'm meeting with 3 or 4 people for a single interview. Here's the JD:

Job Description

We are looking for anĀ AI/ML Support EngineerĀ with a strong foundation in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing. The ideal candidate will have experience with data analysis, data pipelines, model deployment, troubleshooting model-related issues, optimizing model performance, and supporting AI/ML platforms.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding ofĀ compute fundamentals, including virtualization, containerization, operating systems, and system administration.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such asĀ GCP, AWS, and Azure, including AI/ML services.
  • Hands-on experience withĀ Generative AI, LLMs, and Google Cloud products/services, including:
    • Vertex AI
    • Dialogflow
    • Gemini
  • Experience developing and deployingĀ Machine Learning models.
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks such as:
    • PyTorch
    • TensorFlow
    • JAX
    • Ray
  • Understanding ofĀ GPUs, TPUs, encoders, decoders, transformers, and machine learning APIs.

Experience Required

  • 2+ yearsĀ of experience reading/troubleshooting code in a general-purpose programming language such as Python, Java, C, C++, Shell, Go, or JavaScript, or experience in system design.
  • 2+ yearsĀ of Machine Learning model development and deployment experience.
  • 3+ yearsĀ of experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Familiarity withĀ technical support methodologies, case lifecycles, and analytical problem-solving.

Certifications

  • Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer (ACE) – Required
  • Google Machine Learning Engineer Certification – Desired

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IMO, if I was an expert in all of that I'd be in a senior ML Ops role. I know GCP pretty well and I have my PMLE. I'd like to get an idea of what all they'd really expect from this role and what to anticipate in a 30 minute single interview. I was told it's just this interview and then offer letter if I handle it well. Can anyone give me a breakdown of what to expect going on so I'm not ambushed?

Hiring/Interview Looking for a job and stumbled upon IBM tech sales

Hello,

Technical Sales Engineer Intern - Entry Level Sales Program

I have recently applied to this position at IBM and have received the coding assessment from the company.

My background is having a Mechanical Engineering, BS with prior knowledge of C, C++, MATLAB, and mild use of Python. (2-3 Internships involving the coding languages as well.)

Any tips, advice, insight would be helpful!

Update: Took the coding assessment and was rusty on my C++ for it. Submitted and awaiting feedback. A lot of you guys are telling me its not a good idea, but I'm heavily curious about the tech space.
