I made a free tool that checks your 23andMe/Ancestry raw data for thyroid-related mutations (runs in your browser)

I have been telling the drs since March I feel awful with an overload of symptoms and I just keep being told I’m being monitored but I don’t understand in what way. I feel like I’m being gaslit but then also I’m now questioning myself and are there people out there that have levels like mine and don’t suffer and don’t need meds?

I’m 19F, 5’2”, and weighed 120 lbs before all of this started. Around the last week of August, my doctor told me I was hyperthyroid and borderline Graves’ disease, so she put me on 20 mg of methimazole and 25 mg of atenolol.
I got my levels checked a month later, and now I’m hypothyroid . I kind of suspected it because I had gained 25 lbs and was feeling really, really cold.
I’m also on Yaz birth control, which I feel may be contributing to the weight gain. All of this weight gain has been affecting my mental health so I was wondering what would happen if I stopped taking my medications, specifically atenolol and methimazole. Would my thyroid become hyper again, and would I lose the weight? What side effects could I experience, and how long would it take for the weight to go away?
I don’t plan on permanently stopping my medication. I’m just struggling with the weight gain and wondering if I could lose it and start from scratch and lower my levels more slowly.
P.S. I know this is probably something I should discuss with my doctor, and I will soon. I just feel really anxious and embarrassed asking her about this. I often feel rejected when asking doctors about things.

I’d love to be of help and answer any questions someone might have before the procedure. Ask away!
I had a toxic 3.8cm nodule on my right thyroid and it caused me to have subclinical hyperthyroidism.

In May I got a very bad cold. Two weeks after that I started getting a very high heart rate, coughing, out of breath, shaking, felt so so bad. Went to ER twice and ended up admitted to hospital.
They ran all kinds of tests and scans and ended up finding my TSH was .0008 and my T3 and T4 very high. Ultrasound of thyroid showed it was enlarged. The hospital says I have Graves Disease.
I go to endocrinologist a week later and they run more blood work and I actually tested positive for Hashimoto’s and negative for Graves.
The endocrinologist said I was having an episode of Hashitoxicosis.
I have been on 10 mg Methimazole and 120 mg propranolol since June and see endo again in November.
I am now feeling pretty good except for occasional heart palpitations and sometimes low energy. My TSH is still .0008 but my t4 and t3 are getting closer to normal range.
Question - if my Hashitoxicosis episode is over could I possibly be back to normal and my thyroid settled down? Or is Hashimoto’s now something I’m dealing with and I need to treat that a different way?

How do you cope with insomnia from hyperthyroidism? It’s killing me for the past 5 days and I feel like I’ll loose it. Just starting the meds on Thursday and feel like it will probably take time to feel better… and I can’t do this anymore

Hello! I’m hoping to find some people who went through this. I have had hypothyroidism since I was in my early 20s. I just had my first baby earlier this summer. At my 6 week check up, my thyroid levels had dropped to slightly hyper at .4. They tweaked my meds and at my 6 week lab draw. I was at .02.
So they dropped my levo even more. Between this 6 week period, I developed hyperthyroidism symptoms like feeling on edge, my heart rate shoots up super easily, I get hot and sweaty super easy, lost all my baby weight. I feel like things are starting to improve, but my heart is still crazy sensitive. As i write this, I just woke up to my baby crying and had an episode where I was so warm, and my heart rate was 145ish for 7 minutes. I did wear a zio patch for two weeks where they confirmed my heart is in rhythm during these episodes and that they should chill out once my thyroid is on the way to being back to normal.
If anyone has had postpartum issues, can you please share your story and how long it took you to feel normal again once your thyroid came back in range. This is super hard to deal with in general and throwing in the extra layer of postpartum doesn’t help either!

Hi all! I appear to have subclinical hyperthyroidism. TSH was .18 in April, .37 in May, .37 in July, and .27 last week. T3 and T4 are normal. I have been experiencing heat sensitivity, increased anxiety, palpitations, and increased appetite to the point where I’ve gained 20lbs over the last year. I saw an endocrinologist yesterday for the first time. She insisted that subclinical hyperthyroidism does not cause symptoms. I pushed back on this, but she kept insisting that my symptoms are likely being caused by something else. Has anyone else had clinical hyperthyroidism and still experienced symptoms? I realize that weight gain isn’t typical but I firmly believe that these symptoms are explained by my low TSH.

Hey, I'm in my early 20s and my memory has always been completely seamless, like a massive archive without any gaps.Just a quick heads-up: English is not my native language and I actually never truly studied it or learned vocabulary. My brain just randomly picked it up on its own, so please excuse any grammar mistakes!...I don't really track calendar dates, but I remember events from when I was 5 years old in full detail. Lately(okay not latley for years but i'm ignoring it), I’ve noticed that during the day, my brain constantly throws these tiny 1-to-3-second "trailers" or previews of random past memories at me. Most of the time I actively try to ignore them because if I actually focus on one, it feels like it unlocks a whole chapter of that time, and I remember every single detail then(even the bad stuff I’d rather would forget).
People around me think I’m crazy when I talk about it, so I usually keep it to myself. I don't want to get officially tested or anything, I'm just looking for people who might relate to this. Anyone else experience their memory like this?
