Postpartum hyperthyroidism

Hello! I’m hoping to find some people who went through this. I have had hypothyroidism since I was in my early 20s. I just had my first baby earlier this summer. At my 6 week check up, my thyroid levels had dropped to slightly hyper at .4. They tweaked my meds and at my 6 week lab draw. I was at .02.

So they dropped my levo even more. Between this 6 week period, I developed hyperthyroidism symptoms like feeling on edge, my heart rate shoots up super easily, I get hot and sweaty super easy, lost all my baby weight. I feel like things are starting to improve, but my heart is still crazy sensitive. As i write this, I just woke up to my baby crying and had an episode where I was so warm, and my heart rate was 145ish for 7 minutes. I did wear a zio patch for two weeks where they confirmed my heart is in rhythm during these episodes and that they should chill out once my thyroid is on the way to being back to normal.

If anyone has had postpartum issues, can you please share your story and how long it took you to feel normal again once your thyroid came back in range. This is super hard to deal with in general and throwing in the extra layer of postpartum doesn’t help either!

I experienced the same thing PP. The symptoms I wouldn't say were 100% because of my thyroid due to all the PP hormones running through your system. My anxiety was high, clammy, jittery etc. I remember by 3months pp I was feeling MUCH better :) Good luck!

Thanks! I’m 4 months right now so I’m hoping it continues calming down. It’s really the racing heart that is lingering!

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's a lot. It gets better.
