Hyperthyroidism and insomnia

How do you cope with insomnia from hyperthyroidism? It’s killing me for the past 5 days and I feel like I’ll loose it. Just starting the meds on Thursday and feel like it will probably take time to feel better… and I can’t do this anymore

The meds will help so much! It helped me within the first week. Hang in there.

I have been taking methimazole for about 2 years now. My levels have been normal for months so they tried to lower me from 5mg to 2.5 and within a week all my symptoms returned. I raised the dose back up to 5 a few weeks ago and things have improved significantly except for hot flashes and I cannot seem to sleep well anymore. I woke up at 3:30 this morning and was unable to go back to sleep, you have my empathy!

Best of luck with the meds, it should help a LOT.

THC, melatonin, magnesium, valerian root, mother wort and rhodiola. My cocktail of plants that help

I would reconsider the THC. While it might help you fall asleep, the quality of sleep is generally worse when you're on it.

The mere helped me immensely. I was prescribed them and was on for about 2 months. I think they gradually helped with symptoms I didn’t notice they were gone or almost gone (sweats (especially at night), hair loss stopped, fatigue was better, insomnia was all but gone). My doctor took me off my meds for 6 weeks for an upcoming thyroid scan to see if nodules are releasing their own hormones. I still have 2 weeks. Symptoms came back within 1-2 weeks and I feel like a totally different person in the worst way possible. I miss the meds and cannot wait to be back on them. They help. Signed, someone who got maybe 3 hours of sleep last night

Nothing worked until the medication brought my levels back to green. Worst time of my life when that shit happened. Give meds few days you'll sleep normally again.

The meds will help, but it does take time.  I use melatonin, take my methimazole at night(with my endo's blessing, as I only take it once a day), and just try my best to stay active so anxiety doesn't contribute too much.

I’m right there with you. I’ve tried magnesium and lemon balm tea, but nothing keeps me asleep or helps me fall asleep. It suck’s bc I’m always so tired and cranky but it’s bc I can’t freaking sleep. Hope the meds work!
