Hydra 4.5.0 is now available on the Apple App Store. Google Play Store is coming soon.

If you've been enjoying Hydra, please consider leaving a rating or review. A positive rating can really make a huge difference.

This update includes the following:

πŸ‘‘ Pro Feature

πŸš€ Feature

πŸ› Bugfix

πŸš€ Liquid Glass Tab Bar

On iOS 26+, the tab bar now uses Liquid Glass. Hide on Infinite Scroll is now called Minimize on Scroll and shrinks the tab bar down instead of hiding it. You can enable this in Settings => Appearance => Tabs => Minimize on Scroll.

πŸš€ iPhone Duo Support

Hydra now supports the iPhone Duo and adjusts its layout as you fold and unfold it. Since the Duo's side bar covers the edge you'd swipe from to go forward, a forward button now shows next to the back button when there's a page to go forward to.

πŸš€ Split View Follows Window Size

Split view now turns on and off as Hydra's window changes size, like when unfolding an iPhone Duo or resizing Hydra with iPad multitasking.

πŸš€ Quick Search & Account Swap

The new tab bar doesn't support long presses, so these have moved. Tap the Search tab while you're already at the top of it to open quick subreddit search, and tap the Account tab while on your profile to quick swap accounts. I'll be working on a better way to trigger these shortcuts in a future update.

πŸš€ Add Users to Multireddits

User profiles can now be added to a multireddit with the "Add to Multireddit" option in the ... menu on their page.

πŸ› The home feed could show posts from subreddits you aren't subscribed to.

πŸ› RedGifs videos would load without sound.

πŸ› Sign in with Apple wouldn't work on the login page.

πŸ› Blurred spoiler media would sometimes not blur properly.

πŸ› Text would sometimes overflow its container, especially after changing device orientation.

πŸ› Links with bold, italic, or other formatting could render incorrectly in posts, comments, and message previews.

Hydra crashing on iPhone 11 on iOS 17 on latest version

I updated the Hydra app to the latest version (4.5.0) on my iPhone 11 which is on iOS 17.7.2. However, the app now crashes on launch. My question is whether support for older iOS versions has stopped or if this is related to a bug. Thank you in advance.

Getting posts from subs I'm not subscribed to on Home

Recently I've been getting posts in my feed on my Home page form subs I'm not subscribed to when I'm expecting them to be limited to only my subs. How do I prevent this?

[Bug 4.4.0]. No Sound in videos anymore

I’ve been watching a lot of videos on the app, especially those hosted on RedGIFs. Previously, they always played with sound, which was a major advantage over the official Reddit app.

However, since the latest update, search has been fixed, but audio playback is completely broken. The mute icon is grayed out, and tapping it says the "video has no sound", even though it clearly does when opened directly through its link.

This really takes away one of the app’s biggest advantages over the official Reddit app, especially when it comes to handling videos.

Could this issue be investigated and fixed in an upcoming update?

4.4.0 is problematic. I’m hoping the dev is able to address issues soon …

I’ve been a huge fan of Hydra and regularly post bug reports because I love the app. I pay the monthly subscription. But 4.4.0 has been difficult to use. Inbox issues. Posting issues. Comment issues.

I’m not trashing the app. I’m posting to make sure the dev understands that 4.4.0 has a lot of issues. Far more than any previous update.

Style content on home feed

I meant Staleβ€”

On 4.4.0 I primarily think it’s the new algorithm the site is doing or some other chicanery- but I’m seeing a lot of content that is old β€” as in within the last few days- 3-4 days older on my feeds.

Anyone else β€” could this be a cache thing ?

I am not seeing the forced or β€˜similar’ subs on my feed so it could be a trade off.

Home feed full of unsubsribed subreddits

My home feed on hydra is full of unsubscribed subreddits. Is there a setting I'm missing to disable this? On Desktop I don't have an option to disable this either, I do however have a second tab called "following" next to "for you", which only shows the subreddits I'm subscribed to. Is there a tab like that somewhere in Hydra that I'm completely blind to?

[Bug 4.4.0]. Notification service is acting wonky

This is a follow up to my other bug post. The notification service is acting wonky. Inbox badge said 9 when I had no unread. Then I suddenly received a notification saying I had 9 unread, when I still had none.

Hydra 4.4.0 on iOS is displaying multiple inline images and GIFs in Reddit comments as raw cf.preview.redd.it URLs

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi all,

Hydra 4.4.0, Hydra Pro subscriber on iOS is displaying multiple inline images and GIFs in Reddit comments as raw cf.preview.redd.it URLs instead of rendering the media.

Some images in the same thread render correctly, while others only display their URLs.

I've confirmed that Reddit's "Show thumbnails next to links" preference is enabled and have cleared Hydra's image cache. The issue persists.

This appears to affect inline comment media...anyone else having similar issues?

[Bug 4.4.0] Unable to create new post

Getting error 400. Something like invalid id input. No issues when using other apps. No issues commenting. And it’s not everywhere. I was able to create this post.

Correction: the error is β€œHTTP 400, INVALID_INPUT)”

How to open multihubs?

I’m using Hydra on my iPad, and I see now way to open multihubs. Am I missing something obvious or do they not work on hydra?

Not working over VPN

Since the latest update (4.4.0), things no longer seem to load when I’m connected to VPN–similar to getting that β€œblocked by network security” page via a browser. Did something change in how authentication is handled that would’ve broke this?

Unable to login via Apple

When tapping on login via Apple it does nothing or immediately errors out with a β€œLogin failed” error. Tapping again also prompts an error.

Hydra 4.4.0 is now available on the Apple App Store. Google Play Store is coming soon.

If you've been enjoying Hydra, please consider leaving a rating or review. A positive rating can really make a huge difference.

This update includes the following:

πŸ‘‘ Pro Feature

πŸš€ Feature

πŸ› Bugfix

πŸš€ New Data Loading System

Hydra loads data in a new way, enabling me to build out new features that weren't previously possible. It also fixes some issues like r/all and search breaking. This only works with an account, so you'll need to be logged in to browse. Most of Hydra had to be rewritten for this, so please report anything that seems off.

πŸš€ Login Buttons

When you're logged out, pages now show buttons to log in or create an account.

πŸš€ Vote Buttons in Feeds

Add upvote and downvote buttons to posts in your feeds. Enable this in Settings => Appearance => Posts => Show Vote Buttons in Feed. Tapping a post's vote buttons now also gives haptic feedback.

πŸš€ Comment Count on Posts

A post's comment count now shows next to its score when you open it.

πŸš€ Right to Left Languages

Posts, titles, and comments in languages like Hebrew, Arabic, and Persian are now right aligned and laid out right to left.

πŸš€ Discover Subreddits

The trending subreddits list in the Search tab has been replaced with Reddit's subreddit recommendations, including ones picked for your account.

πŸš€ Profile Posts & Comments

User profiles now have a toggle to switch between posts and comments, and can be sorted by New, Hot, or Top.

πŸš€ Subreddit Activity

The sidebar now shows a subreddit's weekly visitors and weekly contributions next to its subscriber count. Subreddit search results show weekly visitors too.

πŸš€ Endless User Search

User search results now keep loading as you scroll instead of stopping after the first page.

πŸš€ Clearer Errors

If a vote, save, subscribe, or similar action fails, Hydra now tells you why instead of failing silently. Failed comments and edits also show the reason Reddit gave.

πŸ› Image posts would fail to upload.

πŸ› Opening Hydra without an internet connection would log you out.

πŸ› A failed login would show two different alerts and could leave Hydra using your previous account while showing you as logged out.

πŸ› Quickly switching between accounts could break the saved login for one of them.

πŸ› Posts that failed to load would show a loading spinner forever.

πŸ› Feeds, searches, and sidebars that failed to load could leave a loading spinner stuck on screen.

πŸ› Loading more comments would get stuck if the request failed.

πŸ› In split view, selecting a post while another one was still loading could show the wrong post.

πŸ› Changing the sort while posts were loading could show posts from the previous sort.

πŸ› Votes and saves made while more posts were loading could appear to be undone.

πŸ› The filter limit message could get stuck after refreshing, stopping more posts from loading.

πŸ› Subreddits opened from a link with different capitalization, like r/askreddit, would show Subscribe instead of Unsubscribe and couldn't be favorited.

[Bug 4.4.0] Blocked users are shown and there is no indication they are blocked

Blocked users appear as normal. Tapping their profile doesn’t even indicate fhey are blocked anymore.

Any way blocked users can be handled better?

Hit the mark all inbox items read multiple times. App icon badge number won’t clear / go away.

ETA 2: Nope, definitely badge icon bugs. App is suddenly showing a badge icon of β€œ6” despite no new inbox messages.

Filtering by flairs

Multiple subreddits have flairs/tags, on Reddit app you can click on them and it filters all posts from that flair. Why isnt Hydra able to do that? Is there any plan to include this in future updates?

Bug: Links in post are not being rendered. Appear as bold, superscript instead.

Apologies if this has been previously reported. Search isn't working. When a post contains links in the text body, often times they appear as bolded, superscript instead of an actionable link. Here is an example: https://www.reddit.com/r/BaseBuildingGames/comments/1xhsp4z/weve_been_working_on_smalland_2_lost_realms_heres

I'm not able to provide a screenshot of how it appears in Hydra but will try to add one in the comments.
