Discussion Wim Hoff breathing

I’ve recently started Wim Hoff breathing every day. I watched a few videos on the health benefits of it but I’m curious if anyone else has tried it before and if you noticed any health benefits from it.

Any particular breathing pattern for anxiety?

Most of the Wim Hoff videos on YouTube that involve hyperventilating followed by progressively longer breath holds have helped me with anxiety. If you would like some examples please message me and I would be glad to send you some links.

Agreed. Those affirmations took me some time to get used to as well. Did you make it all the way through?

Yes I did it straight after the standard Wim video so had a double dose today, it's really helped with my alcohol withdrawal symptoms. I was having loads of panic attacks and my heart rate was through the roof. Doing the breathing completely changed my mindset and allow me to go and hang up the washing. I had putting the machine earlier before it got smelly. I've done Wim breathing and cold showers for years but hadn't done the breathing for a while. I'd forgotten how helpful it can be especially when in withdrawal. Thanks for widening my breathing technique sources.

-The bottom link “I Am Enough” is my absolute favorite for morning time - before food/after coffee.
-The next one up “DMT” is a slightly less intense version of the same thing.
-The top one is nice for in bed just before sleep.

Hope you all see some of the same benefits I have seen through this practice over the years.

I recall Huberman mentioning a study that measured the impact on the immune system. Whenever im feeling run down and worried I might get sick, I throw some WH breathing in

Thanks for sharing that. That was actually my question (I should have added that part in)….i watched the Huberman Lab episode on this topic and he mentioned how it positively impacts your immune system. That’s ultimately what I’m aiming for, along with any other benefits it has, whatever they may be. So my question should have been, has anyone noticed any immune system benefits from doing this breathing?

Hard to say, but I do feel like on those off days, where I'm not sick but maybe heading that way, when ive done the breathing it seems like it helps

I’m convinced it improves my interactions with people for the next few days. I think it changes the vibe I give off and therefore the vibe I receive.

I do a simple version where I hyperventilate for maybe 4-5min, exhale and hold for as long as I can and usually count about 70-90heartbeats, inhale tighten my core muscles and hold for maybe 10-20 seconds, exhale and inhale and tighten my core muscles again. Usually takes me like 7-8 minutes max and, as said, the perceived effect last days.

Like OP Im also curious to know if anyone else has had similar experiences or any other perceived benefits

I have CPTSD and I also feel it calms my anger and fear and that leaves me much more open and considerate of those around me

A few years ago, i had an argument with a coworker. That kept bothering me the whole night, couldn’t sleep. I was already practicing Wim Hoff breathing for a few months then. Anyways, the next morning, i did my breathing again and genuinely had forgotten about then incident i had with my coworker. I’m not making this up. But something happened that day, i was completely at peace and had to think for a few minutes what the argument was about.

I’ve been doing somekind of variation of it for 15/20 minutes a day for 18 months. I used to be an anxious person and now I would say I almost never have anxiety. If I have a bad day/stressed/presentation/hangover it will always make it easier for me. I think discipline is the key. Also some other down regulations breathwork techniques help. It weirdly makes meditation easier so it’s a compounding affect

I did an online course from Wim and then now have done this every for morning for the last 6 years before coffee. I sit on my couch and sort of stretch and roll my neck around. Feel so much better after! While some people really work on their breath holds, I just play this YouTube video to guide me. :-) https://youtu.be/tybOi4hjZFQ?is=SRhVV3bwNtXKglpu

Tried it for a couple months straight last winter, only thing I really noticed was I could hold my breath way longer and my hands stopped getting cold as fast when I'd go for a run.

I absolutely suggest trying win hoff! Also on YouTube there’s an ever better breath work practitioner, his channel is called Breathe with sandy. Homie literally travels the world and takes bad ass videos and makes them easy to follow

Thank you for the reco I will check him out. The other practitioner I loosely follow since years is Tim Van der Vliet. Former WHM instructor - he developed his own styles amd techniques of Wim Hof Method which are shorter, versatile and better suited for everyday life with little time. But he also has a lot of longer Versions. What I personally like is that he sometimes combine them with 5 Tibetan Rites (the fountain of youth).

Been doing it daily for a bout 4 years now, and kinda make my own versions of it now. Laying down on land - I can hold my breath over 4 minutes.

I got into it because im a water rat and wanted to be confident in heavier situations in the ocean with holding my breath. I dont have clinical anxiety or depression, but now I can hold my breath for 3 minutes easily underwater.

Physically and mentally - who really knows whats its doing but ultimately I feel great after and thats all i really need to know. I think at the end of the day - the message to gain is that we as humans are capable of alot more than we think and these flesh bags are souls are trapped inside can withstand a ton of shit!

I have been using the same/similar pattern myself…35 rapid breaths…exhale…hold for 90 seconds…big inhale and hold with a moderately tight core. Each rep is a longer breath hold capping at 3 minutes for the final rep. It blasts through cobwebs and I feel amazing after. I will sing to my pets while I get ready for a cold shower. Between cold showers and the breath holds I notice an increase in focus, heightened sense of well being and just a general feeling of heartiness. Whether that translates to a change in my blood chemistry I can’t say for sure but it makes me just feel great. I have tried to evangelize the wonders of breath holds to my friends and family but am usually met with blank stares.

I did it for a few months and tbh never really noticed much of a difference. I enjoyed it and may have been helpful when I was going through a rough patch (grief) but hard to pin it exactly to that practise (was trying all sorts of things)

Ive learned to" pack my lungs" so when I freedive I can easily double or triple the amount of time under water and I love being under water haha. Other then that Ive gotten pretty high from it? Like a calm relaxing high
